xparrot: (happy seal!)
A few years back I got into the manga Eyeshield 21, which was unexpected because I've never been into sports of any kind, much less American football, and I'd never read a sports manga (to this day I've managed to miss Prince of Tennis). But ES21 has Hiruma, you see, and once you know Hiruma there's no going back.

The series finished last year, but I wasn't reading manga then, so missed the end. Recently, however, I watched Oofuri (anime based on an award-winning seinen manga about high school baseball. If you like ADORABLE high school boys being ADORABLE (and teamy and slashy and sweet and learning how to make friends and believe in themselves and did I mention ADORABLE?) I highly recommend it. Even if you don't give a fig about baseball) and that got me back in the sports manga mood (if by sports one means intense and ridiculous and cute team stories that just happen to revolve around playing a game rather than saving the world, but same difference, really.)

So I went back to Eyeshield 21, and not remembering the story well I went and read it from the beginning. And ended up falling in love all over again - unlike Oofuri's beautifully low-key, realistic characters and games, ES21 is totally OTT and zany and absurd and so much fun. It's got fantastically lovable characters and great art, and really, what more do you want out of a series? Even if it is about football...

bit more nattering, some spoilers )

Now I've found some GetBackers scanlations, so am going to be actually reading the bug arc for the first time, rather than just skimming it and enjoying the aaaaangst (I have it in Japanese, but GetBackers is ha~rd to read, between the slang and the pseudoscience...) BanGin forever! *_*

(and a quick personal note, am leaving tomorrow to visit [livejournal.com profile] gnine in England for a couple of weeks (\o/\o/\o/), so if I'm slow to comment or reply, that's why!)

For those of us who still attend the First Church of BanGin - all good things must come to an end...and the GetBackers manga just did yesterday.

Was reading the latest chapter of GetBackers and the last page tickled a ficlet out of me. No fears, there's no spoilers in this, it was indirect inspiration only. I just haven't written any GB in a while and I missed these boys. 'sides, I need to get back in the spirit if I'm ever going to have a hope of finishing DV. Or that h/c drabble promised back in October.

So, here: BanGin, naturally, because it's me; stickily sappy, naturally, because it's them. Warning for gratuitous Kipling quoting.

"And it’s worth while seeking him half your days, If you find him before the other."

Things you don't realize you need in an apartment, until you have an apartment and you need them: a plunger. Which explains why at 9 PM on a freezing Friday night, I'm at Target, purchasing said necessity. And a sponge mop, because they were on sale. Unfortunately this means I no longer have an excuse not to clean my kitchen floor. But at least my toilet flushes!

Will be putting this chapter up on ff.net shortly, but I'm lazy, so it just goes here tonight.
Ow. I'm feeling guilty about this. Hurt/comfort is all well and good, but... I do love you, Gin-chan...really...

[livejournal.com profile] gnine gave me & [livejournal.com profile] chirachira an extended rundown of the latest GetBackers manga chappie. Since she is currently busy at a con in Tokyo seeing Yamaguchi Kappei and Paku Romi and calling me from Tokyo Tower (KILL KILL KILL plz excuse me while I die of envy) I'm posting it for her.

Okay, my beloved imouto [livejournal.com profile] gnine is in Kyoto for the semester. And she just got Shounen Magazine 7.

Big huge spoilers. Point of no return. Short and sweet 'cuz she didn't have time to read it yet ^^;; And get out the tissues. )

Just a little story, pure fluff. Though perhaps of a different nature than the usual.

Read "Happily Ever After" on AO3

Major spoilers for the latest GetBackers chapter, and even more major ravings of an unsound fangirl mind )

Tuesday I got my 4 shiny discs of The Two Towers and my 2 shiny Finding Nemo discs. Shiny discs make X-parrot happy. And X-2 is out next week...

Extended TTT, waiwai!! )

And then in the latest chapter of GetBackers, Ban and Ginji are BACK TOGETHER after many many many moons...I have no idea what's actually going on story-wise, but--hugging! gratuitous shoujo sparkles! "The 's' means we're never alone"! (how many times does that make it?) *happy sigh*

A bit more on GB )

I'd like to state for the record that this is all [livejournal.com profile] naye's fault. X-parrot: I have a dumb idea. Sin-chan: Sounds fun! Write it!

Self-indulgent idiocy, featuring a hopelessly OOC Ban on the slimmest of pretexts, and a bad tendency to forget it's a comedy. Slightly redeemed by some character insights that would have been otherwise difficult to reach, but mostly just because I can. And had too much fun with it, too. >_<

Dang GetBackers plot bunnies. They're everywhere. And these aren't normal plotbunnies. Oh no. I'm used to angst-bunnies, with their sleek black fur and gleaming dark eyes, waiting to pounce and drag you to shadowy warehouses and hospital rooms so you can inflict pain on innocent characters. I'm used to patting them nicely on the head and choosing the best of the litter to raise into full-grown stories.

But the BanGin bunnies? Are fluffy white angora lops with huge brown and blue eyes, short little bundles of adorable squish, and they're all begging to be picked up and cuddled. I'm not a writer of sap. Usually. These, I don't know how to resist. And more just keep appearing. I think they're breeding in the 360's trunk.

This one's for [livejournal.com profile] wenlet, who when I begged her for a bit of teh cute, requested in return a story with the infamous pajamas on the cover of manga v.20. Examining said cover, my sis and I agreed that Ginji's happy happy joy joy expression can only mean "I'm getting SEX tonight!"

Hmm. Discounting the deathfic, this is the first true shounen ai I've written for GetBackers...

Read "Warm & Fuzzy" on AO3

Got hold of the 3rd GetBackers Gameboy game; have a FAQ to play it because there's no way my Japanese is up to the challenge. Still enjoying the hell out of it...how could I not? I mean, just the opening sequence gives you this:

The cuteness. The absolute cuteness. )

I think the mangaka are putting to the test that age-old hypothesis - how many times can you show two guys with their arms around each other before the fangirls get bored of it? Results thus far are inconclusive; the GetBackers data shows approximately a million and counting...

That's not an age-old hypothesis? Well, it should be! And we need more brave souls testing it, too...

The latest chapter of my Saiyuki story "Remembering to Breathe" has been posted on ff.net.

Also up, the beginning of a new Get Backers story. Not my usual--or at least, not my usual for GB. Whatever else you might say about it, it's not fluffy. Not that I'm abandoning the fluff by any means! But sometimes I'm in the mood for something...different.

Ban-chan is so going to kill me.

Darkness Visible, part I )
xparrot: Chopper reading (Default)
I've been so good about writing regularly of late, I wasn't about to give up a winning streak for something so trivial as complete lack of inspiration. So yesterday I just wrote with no aim but the act of writing, and ended up with a fic so plotless and pointless I hesitate even to call it fluff. And about 5 pages longer than I intended, too.

A Thousand Thousand Years

It's GetBackers. Of course. The BanGin is devouring my fangirl soul. If the manga weren't enough, there's the anime. This final arc has been very frustrating, not only in how it's diverged from the manga, but how it's betraying its own storyline - where's my long complicated dramatic shounen fights? And there's no way they can wrap up everything--or anything!--in the TWO EPISODES they have left *sob*

But...but...Ban holding adorably floppy unconscious Ginji??? Doing nothing but trying to shake him awake and crying his name for over a minute?? In front of Kads & Juu and Dr.J, no less? Of course I melted - am I made of stone? Holding!

Really should be working on the next Illicit Miracles pages now...

Just a little GetBackers drabble - is this the first true drabble I've ever written? It might be...short ain't usually my thing.
