time for an h/c comment fest!

The last couple of days have been rough on my writing (for dumb annoying reasons, why don't we come installed with a "will not be bothered by this thing" button?)

So! In the hopes of getting me to write something, and because this is what I'm feeling most wobbly about: it's time for hurt/comfort comment-fic!

Leave me a prompt/request for h/c, any hurt or any comfort, short or long as you want -- if it's character-specific, Guardian WeiLan please, that's all I'm in the mood to write; if that's not your thing then please leave a more general prompt! I don't promise to write anything (nor do I promise to write an actual commentfic and not some 10K-word monster, knowing me) but I would love any inspiration.

And if one of the prompts happens to tickle your fancy, please post your own comment fic (art, etc!) here (any fandoms, any characters) -- the more h/c the merrier!

They left him on the side of the street.

No, they threw him to the side of the street, kicked him to the curb--literally, they probably hadn't even stopped driving, just shoved him out of the van or whatever and kept on going. Not that anyone saw it, not in the middle of the night. Not that any of them had a damn clue, until Lin Jing said, with a weird expression, "Boss, the shield just pinged, it's--the signal's Teacher Shen?"

And Zhao Yunlan exhaled, relieved; so he'd been panicked for nothing. Shen Wei had just had some errand after all and he'd forgotten to tell Zhao Yunlan he was going to be late, and they were going to have words after this, when they got home, after they had the dinner he'd skipped.

He turned to the door of the SID HQ, waiting for Shen Wei to walk in. And waiting, but the door didn't open, and finally Zhao Yunlan turned back to Lin Jing, swallowed down the cold knot rising in his throat again. "False alarm?"

Lin Jing frowned, poked at his computer. "It's still reading a signal? But not crossed--like he's...partway through the shield? Out front?"

"If it's on the fritz and he got stuck outside," Zhao Yunlan said, warningly, pulled on his jacket and marched through the entryway to push open the front door, letting in the chill winter night air.

There was no one on the stoop, no one standing on the sidewalk, and then he heard it, the faint hissing fizz of the shield, that instant when a registered Dixing crossed it--Shen Wei had told him it didn't really hurt, just tingled, like getting a mild static shock, Zhao Yunlan had surmised--

He turned, and on the sidewalk under the streetlight--half on the sidewalk and half in the gutter, curled up and crumpled like a piece of discarded trash in a blue pinstripe suit, but for one arm outstretched, so the tips of his fingers were just brushing the shield--

"Shen Wei!" Zhao Yunlan was shouting without even registering it, flying from the stoop, damn near vaulting over the flowerbox to get to him. "Fuck--Shen Wei!"

He crashed to his knees on the cement and didn't even feel the impact. Shen Wei wasn't moving; even in the shadows Zhao Yunlan would've seen that, as close as he was looking; but he didn't twitch, and that made Zhao Yunlan's hands tremble as he reached out to that sprawled form. Rolled him over, into Zhao Yunlan's arms, so the light fell across his face, stark on the bruises, the blood clotted around his nose, his mouth.

What made the acid burn its way up Zhao Yunlan's throat, though, was the open suit jacket, the once-neat vest and shirt underneath ripped open, buttons torn off and the undershirt cut, to expose his chest to the frost-touched air. Against his pale skin the burns showed too clearly, furious red, darkened around the edges--charred--

Zhao Yunlan had seen such marks before--new on the beat, his first triads case, and he'd been the only one of three rookies to keep his lunch down. The guy had stolen something, diamonds, drugs, he didn't even remember--but they'd used electricity to get what they wanted out of him, then left him. The guy had been breathing when they found him, not anymore by the time the ambulance arrived. Zhao Yunlan had kept up CPR until the EMTs told him to stop, but he'd known already. Had felt the guy die under him, the last heave of his burned chest; kept feeling it in his dreams for months after, but like hell he'd ever mention to anyone those nightmares.

But Shen Wei--Shen Wei was--Zhao Yunlan pressed his fingers to his cold-skinned throat, curved them in--his lips were shaping words, he didn't even know which ones--but there, under his fingertips, a flutter. And Shen Wei's chest, seared and scarred, was moving, he was breathing still--

--How much, it passed through Zhao Yunlan's mind--dark energy wasn't electricity but energy was energy, and Shen Wei could handle it, with his powers control it, with more facility than any other Dixingren born. How much power would it take--this wouldn't have been a cattle prod or a car battery, no household amperage. If they'd tapped into the main grid--earlier this evening, an hour or two ago, hadn't Lin Jing complained, a flickering brownout, rebooting his computers--

--How, though, even if they'd managed to capture Hei Pao Shi, how the hell had they managed to keep him, long enough to--

Some breath finally escaped Zhao Yunlan's own lungs, sounds squeezed out around the shapes his mouth was making--"Shen Wei, can you hear me, fuck, wake up, please, can you--"

"--Boss?" "--Chief Zhao?"

Shuffling steps back on the stoop--he'd been gone for too long, or else they'd heard his shout--and then there were some gasps and shoes pounding on the cement, but Zhao Yunlan couldn't look up to see which of his team it was, couldn't spare enough thought to sort out the voices. Shen Wei's breath caught, audibly, and Zhao Yunlan held his own, readied it to force it into Shen Wei's lungs--but then Shen Wei's lashes fluttered, his eyes opened, dark and hazy under the streetlight.

His cracked, bloodied lips moved, and Zhao Yunlan could read them--the one thing he could read for certain, having seen that movement so many times--"Zhao Yunlan?"

"Here," Zhao Yunlan gasped out, "I'm right here," and he grabbed Shen Wei's hand, squeezed it tight.

Shen Wei's eyes focused slowly, line of sight dragging up to Zhao Yunlan's gaze; his hand moved in Zhao Yunlan's, weakly--trying to squeeze back. "Zhao Yunlan," he said, rasping, hardly even enough sound to be called a whisper. "You're...they told me...but you're..."

"Fine," Zhao Yunlan said, harsh in his throat as a curse, but he forced it out, loud enough for Shen Wei to hear him, "I'm fine--whatever it was, whatever they showed you--I'm fine--"

Shen Wei's white lips, under the swelling and blood, changed--curved up--he smiled. "Good," he said.

Oooh, the way you built the horror and gradual realizations/memories here is masterful! I particularly like that the h/c goes both ways here. The physical hurt endured by Shen Wei vs. the mental scarring of Zhao Yunlan, who wouldn't talk about his nightmares with anyone. Bravo!

ABSOLUTELY, they'd done their homework (whoever "they" is here) and the only reason Shen Wei was lasting was he needed to tell the SID, but then (he'll be okay now! they both will be!)

oh my god yesssss yssss it's so good. and of course shen wei was suborned by a lie about zhao yunlan, ughhh. and this glorious beginning build up of him JUST touching the shield, just enough to be seen - ahhhhhhhhhhhh. i love it so damn much.

I can't even guess how they convinced Shen Wei but yes there is always one proven way to get to him...and the shield, ahhhh it probably was giving him a continuous shock but he needed to get through to the SID, needed to tell them...!!

So! Many! Feelings! Aaaauugghhhh this is so good! His fingers touching the shield oh no, and the detail about Zhao Yunlan realising what the power flickering meant was brilliantly awful. And of course he *smiles* at the end SHEN WEI WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS (((cuddles him)))

Zhao Yunlan is going to be slightly on edge about brownouts or just flickering lights for some time after this, unless Shen Wei is like actually right there in front of him...
