Yeah, digging into the nitty gritty of my likes and dislikes is a key part of how I fan too, but I've become more aware of how even talking in general terms can really impact other people's fannish experience. Like, I've realized that the way I talk about my preference for switching in ships could be taken as criticizing people with strict top/bottom preferences. So now, when I talk about that, I try to remind myself to make it clear that I don't think people with top/bottom references are stupid or morally inferior; we just have different tastes, and often connected different takes on the characters, and they're all equally valid and valuable.
