I wonder if the problem here is at least partly what one of the big problems in the comics has always been: namely, Superman is SO powerful that the writers have to give him the IQ of a toadstool, or else a really BIZARRE set of ethical standards, in order to keep him from solving every problem in about two pages (or two minutes on the show). I mean, with his powers there's virtually nothing he can't do, or learn, or solve, in a fraction of the time that it would take to develop an actual plot. As much as I enjoy the Maggin incarnation of the Superman/Lex Luthor dynamic, I've never been tempted to write fic for it, because I just can't figure out how to write Superman and make him *work* as a character.
On the other hand, from the comments I'm reading, it sounds like it's not just Clark but every character on the show, so ... hmm. Maybe the writers are smoking crack?
