Wanted to say thank you for this - you explained a lot of what I feel, too. I come from the same place of automatically assuming that you'd want to be best friends with your romantic partner - I don't think that everyone wants a romantic partner, or needs one to be fulfilled (I'm a happy single myself) - but if you do have one, I'd think you'd want to be close friends as well, and in my hardcore 'ships, my OTPs, are pretty much always BFFs as well as lovers (sometimes instead of lovers - I have gen OTPs; sex is optional, BFF required!)

Also, Obama introducing Michelle as his best friend thrilled me to pieces!

(also also, I don't drink alcohol myself, for no particular reason except I don't see the point. I *did* see some potential for romance between Jack/Daniel, I must admit, though nothing like J/R... ^_^)
