Gintama Fic: Pandemonium 1/?

So! I have - not quite finished it, but am on the epilogue, which is close enough to begin posting. Consider this a sort-of WiP; the first draft is pretty much done, but I take long enough to edit that I'll be posting in parts. It's somewhat over 60K words in total - the longest fic I've completed in a couple of years! \o/

This is completely indulgent; I wrote it so that later I would have the Gintama fic I wanted to read. Big thanks to naye, gnine, and snarkydame, for encouraging me to go through with it anyway.

Warning: I love the cracktastic humor of the series; I love the moments of epic drama as well. So this starts out silly, but that is not the tone maintained throughout the story entire. Also watch out for random Japanese jokes and references - I'll annotate the major ones; I can try to explain the others (though some might only make sense in my head anyway.)

As always, any and all comments appreciated more than I can say.

gen; PG-13; Yorozuya (the Shinsengumi, Zura, and most of the rest of the cast show up eventually)
Today's lessons for the Yorozuya trio: Beware of Greeks bearing gifts, don't count your chickens before they're hatched, and be careful when life seems too good to be true, because it might be a sign that everything is soon going to go very, very badly.

EEEEE, having been a fan of your Saiyuki fic on ff.net back in the day, I cheered like mad when I saw fanfic with your name on it on the Gintama com! And the high quality of your writing is as I remember, :D and your grip on canon as masterful as ever - the timing and the set ups are all so very Gintama! The old lady and the rosebush! Gin-chan ditching them only to come back for the reward! The paralysis from the venom giving Shinpachi an Osakan accent- I could hear the voice actors in my head, it was that spot on.

Thank you thank you thank you for writing delicious gen!!! I am reallylooking forward to seeing what you'll do with the rest of the cast, having done the Yorozuya trio so very well.

I was hesitating on whether I should read this now or wait until you had posted all of it, but here I am. XD (also, naye mentioned that you might be thinking about doing a Gintama crossover with Doctor Who later and that would be all sorts of fantastic! ^__^)

I've never even read Gintama fic before, but this is such a perfect reflection of the series that it made me both laugh out loud and squee. The rosebush, the apparent randomness of the gift, Gintoki's JUMP, the things they want to do with the money...! XDD

And then Gintoki doesn't want to stay out all night searching for a time machine (that line is both LOL and AWW at the same time!), and it turns out they're okay, and of course Shinpachi gets turned into a toy when he's paralyzed, and then they stay up and worry about him... ^____^

You have a few more chapters posted. I'm off to read them now!

This is really well written! When it said 'novel length' I hesitated because I wasn't sure if I'd stick through it all; but it I read Whispers in the Rye on LJ (which is a considerable length as well) in about 4 days, I can read this.
