just call me el pimpo

My little sis just posted her first music vid ever, which I command you all to go and watch, because it is the awesome. And then you must tell her how it is the awesome, so she does more of them. Lots more. For me. Oh, I have plans...(hey, I have been [livejournal.com profile] gnine's fic-bitch for years. It's my turn, baby!)

It's a Smallville vid, camp angsty Clex, set to a Motown classic.

What becomes of the broken-hearted? Why, they become supervillains!

Now, back to writing Lex/Kaiba. Oh I am so going to hell.

Ignorant person that I am, I must ask: who is this Kaiba? And is he good enough -- or bad enough, or sexy enough -- for a young Lex?

Heh...Seto Kaiba. Yeah. He's one of my all-time fave anime chars, a brilliant young orphan adopted and raised by the head of a massive corporation, who sadistically 'trained' him to be the ultimate CEO, cold-blooded and ruthless. This worked a little too well; at 16 Kaiba took over KaibaCorp, lock stock and barrel; his adopted father suicided and Kaiba...well, it's a long story. He was well on his way to becoming a supervillain (but he's feeling much better...)

But you can see why he and Lex would get along. (Truth be told I'm still a Clex OTPer to the core, so it's a doomed relationship from the start, but I couldn't help it!...)

(...somewhere around here I should admit that he's one of the main chars of Yu-Gi-Oh, the completely terrible way-too-popular cardgame kid's anime, but then I'd have to get into my whole rant on how badly the Japanese anime screwed up the original manga, and how badly the American dub then screwed up the Japanese anime, and you've probably heard enough already...)

So...is this original manga available in the U.S. in English translation? And is that the route to go in getting to know Seto Kaiba?

It is; and you can find it in at any Borders manga section! I have quibbles with the translations but they're decent overall. Um. I have to warn you that it is a kid's manga (though Japan has more respect for what kids can handle). I also must warn that Kaiba isn't a major char until the second half; he starts out as one of many villains, and a pretty obnoxious and two-dimensional one, too. (Actually I hated the char until his third appearance, when he got a personality makeover...) Also also I have to warn that Kaiba's backstory is given in about 4 pages total and thus much of what I & others write about his past is extrapolated from little hints.

Ah, enough warnings - my original sort-of-pimping post can give an idea of what you'd be in for. It's not for everyone, but I'm not the only one who got more obsessed than I really ought to be (and it's mostly Kaiba's fault...)

Thanks for the info! I may have to look into this....
