Allow me to be the first to say ARGH

Should have been studying for tomorrow's Japanese final last night - I've managed to forget more kanji this semester than I'd ever learned before - but instead I was poking at fic, readying a new chapter for upload. Only to discover upon attempting to post that ff.net's doc manager is currently refusing all documents - gives me a random error message when I try to upload. Is this just me, or is everyone feeling the hate?

Anyway, on the off-chance someone from ff.net pops over to my lj, here's chapter 6 of "Legally Insane". Mokuba torture, Kaiba angst, all that good stuff. Though geeze...it was supposed to be like a 20 page story, it's now 45 pages and counting. Have I mentioned I'm having far too much fun with this fic? What can I say, unrepentant h/c'er here - the classic 'loved one gets abducted, big brother proceeds to completely lose his mind', it never gets old!

edit: Ah-hah! Works now. The old "bitch about it to others" trick, never fails!

edit the second: Next page NOW plzkthx! Presumed dead! *squeal* (Benjamin/Caprice = absolute OTP, yo!)

am uploading it now (ep 12, right?) - & enjoy your new baby! ^__^

Maybe ff.net is trying to tell you something. Maybe it doesn't want any more Kaibas and Mokubas from you than Naye and I do. Maybe it wants tortured Getbackers and pretty tormented boys traveling west in jeeps instead.

Though all these YGO posts must be starting to wear me down, because the "classic" description above is starting to sound appealing. Damn those Kaibas! NO! Won't got there! Won't read about Kaibas just because X-parrot is writing them instead of finishing all her other unrepented h/c. Must resist!

Love you.

P.S: GOOD LUCK WITH THE FINAL!!

[identity profile] ladykarasu.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, just come over to the dark side - resistance is futile. She's already got me, and I swore I'd never get into YGO (Darn those Kaibas!)

Although, I'll happily take the Getbackers, the westward jeeps, and raise you a couple hot pirates. ^_~

[identity profile] stitcher2ficcer.livejournal.com 2005-12-10 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
And I'll raise you one hot superhero and his devoted best friend (from X-parrot's 2004 original NaNoWriMo novel, in case she's never shared it with you), who she last left in the clutches of the evil, psychotic super villain at the very climax of the final hero/villain confrontation! Arrrggghhh!! And these are her very own beloved heros! How can she leave them hanging like this!

(Love you X-parrot.)

Nah, I think ff.net just HATES ME PERSONALLY AND WANTS ME TO GO INSANE.

Or something of the sort...

And I'm not gonna lie and tell you this fic is anything special, because really, it's pretty corny, but it has been entertaining me terribly...and I am sorry I've been neglecting the rest, but, those are all long serious dark things, and it's December, it's cold and snowy and I need silly light torture fluff to keep me warm!

[identity profile] stitcher2ficcer.livejournal.com 2005-12-10 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
But LadyKarasu and I both gave you light fluff for your birthday, and it didn't seem to help push you in the right direction. **Siggghhhh** Guess if I want to read my favorite author, I'm gonna have to break down and go "over to the dark side" as LadyK suggests. But I just KNOW when you stumble onto someone else to replace the Kaibas, I'll wind up dissatisfied with some cliff you've left them hanging from along with Ban, Ginji, the Saiyuki boys, the One Piece crew, and Val and Cash. This definitely is becoming an unhappy pattern.

Ahhh, updates- how they make me happy. ^_^ And I shouldn’t have read that at work, I really shouldn’t have, but I couldn’t help it (anyway, I’m calling it stress relief. *laughs*) Yay, fic!

Oh yes, and good luck with the final. ^_~

thank you - for reading, and for the much-needed luck! ^^;;

if you're not supposed to be reading it at work, I suppose I ought not to be posting it there...though it was my lunch break. Didn't leave much time to eat, though ^^;

Ahaha, it's nice to see I'm not the only Miracle of Science addict in the world. Remember what they said in the hospital, that the only thing which might push Benjamin over the edge (again) would be the death of a loved one? Whaddya wanna bet this is the push that does it? Evil Ben! Aaaaaaaa! Nooooo!

... oh, I did read and enjoy the new chapter, I just never review ... because I *suck*. >_

Yay, another MoS fan!! Heh, yeah, this just has to push Ben over. Even if they hadn't already set it up, something does...it's like Chekhov's gun, you're not allowed to have a one-time mad scientist that everyone worries about a relapse in a story, unless he actually does snap!
...and they're going on holiday break after next comic. Noooooo~~!!! I have a very bad feeling about their threatened cliffhanger...

and hee, glad you're enjoying the fic! ^__^

[identity profile] laylalawlor.livejournal.com 2005-12-12 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can guess what the cliffhanger's going to be... *wibble*

I'm also wondering how Caprice will adjust (or not) to having her link severed. It's interesting that the one thing about her which really hampered her relationship with Benjamin has now been removed (the link) ... and now she's catatonic and Ben's about to go crazy. Is this a case of "be careful what you wish for"?

I wonder if what Haas did to her is reversible. Actually, if there's anyone who could reconnect her link, it's probably MadScientist!Ben ... but *would* he?

Eep! It didn't even occur to me that it *could* be permanent - being Mars is so integral to who Caprice is that her possibly being cut off entirely didn't register. Can she even function autonomously? Good point, that Ben could probably rewire her... (I think that I, for whatever reasons, have been halfway assuming that by the end of the story Ben is actually going to be hooked into the Martian collective, because I can't see how they'd work out their relationship otherwise. Also because Mars is just the coolest collective consciousness I've seen in SF...who wouldn't want to be part of it? Besides anti-social ex-MSs with severe intimacy issues... ^^)

(Hey, while we're discussing great webcomics that no one's ever heard of, do you read ELG? I've been trying unsuccessfully to get anyone into that one forever...it's got lovely cute friendshipping, even!)

[identity profile] laylalawlor.livejournal.com 2005-12-12 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree about the link being integral to Caprice's identity ... it really is like losing half your brain. She seems like a very resilient person and I could see her adapting eventually (assuming she could actually survive the physical shock of a permanent separation) but she might be ... well, a *different* person. Personally I don't think it'll come to that -- I do think she'll get it back, but I don't see it being an easy thing.

The idea of Benjamin being hooked into the collective -- that one had never occurred to *me*. I dunno ... Ben is SO private that I'm not sure if he could handle it. Dealing with Caprice on both levels (individual/collective) is hard enough for him. I think I'd actually like it better if he never did, because to me it's more interesting for two characters to have to deal with each other's differences instead of making the difference go away and becoming alike -- if that makes any sense.

I do like the Martian collective, though. I've always had some trouble dealing with the idea of being hooked into a collective, personally ... because of the submerging of personal identity, and I like the way that the Martian duality of personal identity and collective identity is just not even an issue for them: they are individuals, AND members of the collective, and it's no problem. Another fairly cool, fictional collective is the "afterlife" in Spider Robinson's novel Time Pressure.

I haven't read ELG, though it's on my "to read" list and it's been recommended to me a few times, so maybe I'll sit down and read the archives sometime soon.
