AHHHH I hate cliffhanger finales! And it's not even the finale!
Spoilers ahoy...
Nooo~! Please don't kill John! Oh, please, please, please, I like John. He's so wonderfully messed-up and dysfunctionally devoted to his boys. And there's so few recurring chars. Who are still alive, anyway, because they're dropping like flies. About halfway through the opening sequence I started cursing because I realized it had to be Pastor Jim. RIP, Pastor Jim and Caleb. We hardly knew ye, and loved ye anyway, since the Winchesters needed all the allies they can get.
Speaking of the opening. Kansas. They did a music video to Kansas. Which is beautiful on so many levels. Not to mention, has anyone ever seen an official fanvid before? Flashback homages a la Highlander's finale are one thing, but this was pretty much exactly a fanvid. Good vid, too.
And Dean. Oh Dean. Has anyone noticed that Dean's ultimate defense mechanism, when he's pushed to the wall (literally, in this case) is to drop all his walls? He turns off all his attitude, rolls over and reveals his squishy underbelly. He wouldn't make it far in a nature special, but it's a successful tact with human beings. Straight-from-the-heart, unvarnished truth can burn. Dean's situation is at least as heartbreaking as his brother's. Sam has a life, has a dream of something more than what he is, what he does. Dean has hunting, and his family, and that's it. The hunting he'll always have, but if he loses either of the only people who he can be close to...
In conclusion: Nooo~! Please don't kill John!

I'm so, so glad that Dean pointed out that, you know, Dean and Sam both called when Dean was dying and they didn't hear a word from him, so this whole business about calling when Sam started having visions was such a load of crap. I love John, but he really needed to have that said to his face. Dean really needed to say that and to hear the apology for it.
I do think that John misunderstands Dean a lot--he said he wanted this to be over, that he wanted Sam to go to school, Dean to have a home... and I'm kind of wondering if Dean could ever have that. All he has is hunting and his family. And I worry that they're going to kill John to give both boys a reason to keep hunting even after the demon is dead, to tie them to this life even more strongly than before.

...even if they don't go that route, don't know if they're gonna kill John. He's in the credits for next ep, at least. And the preview showed him dying/dead...but seriously? who dies in a show's cliffhanger finale? Really now! ...other than Deep Throat in TXF, and this show is an XF
ripoffhomage, and I am not thinking about that...nooooo don't kill John!! (especially because yeah, they are bringing Dean's issues to the fore - those two girls love writing Dean angst, I've noticed - and it needs resolution...)no subject
It would have been easier to see this together, I think, because. Ah. Ah. AH. My heart. Hurting now. I feel like I've run laps around the building, and, NO. No, no, no, not John. It would be so much easier if I didn't love John. A lot. Not just as the boys' dad, but I love him, as a character, like you said, and now... I don't think he's dead yet, but his chances of living out the season are kind of... slim. (Think about it - Meg wants the gun, the boys have the gun, Meg has their dad... Except for the whole "you're never going to see him alive again", which I admit was sort of disheartening.
AGH! NO! No waiting! Bad waiting, no like the waiting! And also, if the season finale is worse than this... Ow. What are we going to do?
Such a brilliant episode though, but so painful, and their friends, and that's just low. Really, really low. And I love John even more for how it's breaking him apart that his friends are being killed, that he really cares for them so much that he would risk his own life to protect them, and... and... um.
Dean. And Sam. But Dean. Squishy underbelly yay! Up against the wall. So. Much. Love.

and yessss want more! Though really - I don't think John's dead yet. Because he does have so much potential, and because this ep as good as said (scratch that, Dean did say, bless the dear squishy boy) that if their dad dies Dean (and Sam too, likely) would be irrevocably changed, and not for the better. The show isn't exactly 'lighthearted' but many of the MotW eps are fun in a way that might be harder to maintain with the ghost of their father bringing them down? ...maybe? Either that or I'm preparing myself for the Egypt cruise. Because really, denial is SO EASY with a show where the dead do come back. Not to mention demons who we don't know the powers of. Illusions, perhaps? I don't care if we see John's broken & bleeding body, I don't care if they burn the corpse, I'm still gonna hold on that there might be more to it...
Besides, possessed!John has so much more potential! ^__^
