SGA ficlet for "Kindred pt.1"

I have committed McShep again--just over 500 words, this time. Spoilers for "Kindred, Part 1" (none for part 2)...just a passing thought about one bit in the beginning of the ep. Slashy implications, really rather silly.

Read "Relaxing" on AO3

Yeah, exactly.

Thanks for a wonderful tag. That's exactly how I see Rodney's motivation in doing the recording - Yea! to your Teyla for understanding and following through by listening, as she always does. Yes, it comes from Rodney's ego, but first and foremost, it comes from his heart.

And John's new relaxation method - an added bonus. But, silly John, the real thing is just waiting for you!

Thanks for sharing, Best, chev

"Just curious about what Rodney thinks is crucial science for a fetus to know."

I was wondering about that myself. *g*

Fun read. Thanks.

heheheh this was awesome. Considering the seriouness of this episode this was a cute funny tag. Nicely done.

That was really sweet--and funny--and just the kind of thoughts I wanted to read about Rodney's gift. He was so sweetly earnest about it in the episode, I really appreciate you getting it so well here. Thank you. :D

"Even after three years, Rodney's pre-siege video letter to home remained one of the top ten most downloaded files on the Atlantis server."
Now that was an extremely amusing bit. :3

I'm glad that Teyla understood the gift. And I loved the picture of Sheppard's use of it. His preparations in that last sentence struck me as very fitting
Thank you.

Yes, when I first watched it, I was a little irritated about the writing, on Rodney's behalf...he's an egomaniac, but there are limits. But then, thinking about what Rodney thinks he has to give...he really is trying, and I think Teyla would appreciate that.

As would John. In his own way ^^

I wanna hear that recording! *would happily listen to Rodney expounding on science for a couple of hours*

LOL! Loved this. Loved that the 'leadership' video letter was so popular too :-)

Thank you! Yes, the gift is so very Rodney...ridiculously ego-serving, and yet genuinely sweet, when you think about it.

Ever since I saw "McKay & Mrs. Miller" and wondered where John had gotten hold of the video, I've had this picture of Ford uploading it for the amusement of all...

Hee, thanks! I totally agree with Rodney on the "Letters from Pegasus" vid - it's gold, and I think all of Atlantis would appreciate it!

This delightful. Teyla makes it endearing, John makes it...wicked useful *g*

John picked up the mp3 player. "You're telling me this. Has three hours of Rodney talking about physics."

Oh, John, no. You're not -- oh, you totally did. *laughing* Love when Rodney+math turns him on.

I like this tag because I was a bit disappointed when I watched the show and Rodney gave Teyla a gift like that. It seemed so arrogant and smug, and I don't like it when they portray Rodney like that. But then I thought that this is just his way of giving, he doesn't think of it as eccentric or something, for him his gift is a good idea, something important that can actually give to someone else, something that's precious to him, and he doesn't realise that it's probably not equally as precious to others as well. But he meant well, he wanted to give Teyla a gift and he took the time and effort to make it, I think that's something!

So thanks for writing this little tag that shows that Teyla understands the meaning of this present.

The only thing that I found a bit odd about your tag was the thing with the pre-siege vid. Granted, I have no idea why John had it on his laptop in M&MM, but I don't think anyone would upload it to a public server. These were private messages after all, only to be shown in case that the person who made it dies, and not meant to be seen from anyone else than the officials at the SGC and the relatives of every person. To make it public, to make it some sort of amusement for everyone on the base seems a bit mean to me.
I see where you're coming from, the vid was funny like hell, and I as a viewer laughed about it lots, it was 'gold' from a fan's perspective. But if I was part of the fictional world of Atlantis I would feel very sorry for Rodney if people laughed and made fun of what he deemed to be so important.

Just my two cents, hope you don't get me wrong. As I said, I really like this tag, this little bit just made me wonder. :)

Glad you enjoyed it. I was thinking the gift was a bit over-the-top myself, but Rodney is trying, in his way; he just thinks the greatest thing he has to give is his science, and he must have put some time into it...

Regarding the "Letters from Pegasus" vid, that bit was mostly intended as a joke - but when Rodney gives the tape to Ford, he says it's for "Humanity in general; my sister..." He intended his brilliance to be shared with a broad audience, so I don't think he'd be terribly bothered by it being passed around. If people on Atlantis don't appreciate his genius - well, that's their problem!

I just started watching this show, as in, go out of my way to catch an episode or two on sci fi network. I've caught some here and there by accident.

I like this lots. Rodney made me laugh when he did that, because, egomaniac yes, but he wouldn't give some USELESS baby gift! Who needs stupid crap to clutter up your quarters? This is important, baby brain building stuff!

Awww, I *love* your take on Rodney's gift for Teyla, because I'd kinda wished in the episode that he'd given her something a little more thoughtful (as he did in "Tao"), but I hadn't considered that it was actually something that he made himself, especially for her and her baby -- which is, in its way, a whole lot sweeter than if he'd just picked up some baby toys or something. I love stories that make me see canon in a slightly different (and more complimentary) way!

And I cracked up at the idea of Rodney's leadership video being uploaded to the server! Hee! And ... oh, John, you bad, bad boy. :D

[identity profile] burntcopper.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
heh. John so would. But I do love the scientists quoting bits of his letter.
