randomness: PotC & Heroes

As the entire flist is going on about Pirates 3, I gotta throw my two cents in. Saw it yesterday and loved it. I'd have to see it again to be sure but I think it was my favorite of the trilogy. Truth be told, I was the only fangirl on the planet who didn't care for the first movie...I dunno, it just didn't grab me. But Dead Man's Chest was a blast and At World's End manages to surpass it by going over the top in every single conceivable direction, action, f/x, maelstroms, backstabbing, music, melodrama...like Jack Sparrow, it's loud, ridiculously nonsensical, a drama queen and and more than a little silly, but so darn charming you can't help but succumb.

-- The constant betrayals were hysterical, every one.

-- Poor Norrington! But he redeemed himself. Yays!

-- 9 pieces of eight! Heh, that just cracked me up all the way through. And then the actual pieces in question...

-- Rather quite loved the end. I never cared much about Will/Elizabeth one way or another but they were wicked cute when they finally decided to hell with it, they were going to be tragic lovers no matter what. The marriage ceremony was almost as good as that at the end of The PeaceKeeper Wars. And then! Tragedy! Jack doing the right thing! Triumph! Tragedy anyway! Then sex! Aww.

-- Speaking of the wedding, Barbossa is teh awesome. Well, he is all the way through. But especially there. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here..."

-- Out of curiosity, is Elizabeth still Kaizoku-Oh Pirate King? When did she find the One Piece, anyway?

-- Will is going to be so much a better Dutchman Captain than Davy Jones was, or Jack would've been. (I heard a rumor that there was a cut scene explaining that the curse could be broken if the captain found true love? So it might be broken at the movie's end? Which would be nice for them, but I like it either way.)

-- Besides, would you really mind dying at sea if he were the one coming to get you?

-- Because yeah, I don't have much in the way of respect for Orrie's 'acting' talents, but the silver & scar suit his scrawny ass like a crazy hot thing. MMMM.

-- Am I the only one who was totally awwing at Davy Jones & Calypso? So tragic. And they love each other anyway, even with the betrayals and hatred. Awww.

-- All of the above is thinking way too much about a movie that really doesn't need to be thought about; the important thing is SWASHBUCKLING ON SHIP MASTS! WHILE SWINGING ON ROPES! WHILE GOING DOWN A GIANT WHIRLPOOL! Now that is action.

We also watched the final four eps of Heroes. Don't have much to say, but...

Sylar! Wins! In future evil bad-ass-ery and in present angst!

Yay for heroes (Hiros) who go darkside over friends dying. Awws!

So in the future Peter Petrelli is destined to become Neo? Huh, now. Wake me when Agent Smith shows up.

Matt is really very likable for no particular reason, which makes me like him even more.

Mr. Bennet - Noah! He has a first name! - continues to be my favorite character by so very much.

Especially if they just killed Nathan. No! Why'd you have to pick now to go be a good guy, Nathan? Even if you did go out being as incesty as it is possible to be with your brother. Umm. They were kissing when Peter exploded. You cannot convince me otherwise.

-- The constant betrayals were hysterical, every one. Totally agree with you their (as was the dialogue for said constant betrayals -- especially when Jack was all like, "Listen to the tool!" XDDDD

-- Speaking of the wedding, Barbossa is teh awesome. Well, he is all the way through. But especially there. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here..." *nod nod* This movie cemented Barbossa firmly as my favourite character, and the wedding scene just made me crack up and not stop. I mean only Barbossa would want to do a rushed, impromptu wedding like that. XDDDDDDD

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This movie had the greatest lines! I think it was the best by virtue of being the funniest...

*nodsnods* Barbossa is just...! I don't know if I can pick a favorite char (I'm afraid if I did I might end up picking Davy Jones - which, eek! *covers eyes*...but the squirmy tentacles! the romantitragic angst! the romantitragic angst with squirmy tentacles!) but I think I might like the first movie better now because of Barbossa...

[identity profile] praiseofshadows.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the dialogue rocked so hard. Especially Barbossas. XDDD.

Hehe....I like Davy Jones as well but the tentacles make it a bit squicky XDDDDD.

And yes, I do believe Barbossa makes everything better. I mean, who else could've delivered, "I'm disinclined to acquiese to your request -- that means no" in the first movie? XDD well, Jack could've but the delivery would've just been wrong!
ext_3572: (Default)

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I gotta see the movie again just so I can remember lines! "How's Mum? ...Ah...she's looking well!" XDD

The tentacles are...I mean...tentacles! Squick, except I love me a good rollicking bit of CGI, so...also, he moonlights as the Phantom of the Opera! What's not to love?

YES! Oh man, that had to be the BEST -- what with "Jackie" inquiring about his mother. And then of course The Pirate Codex. XDDDDDDD.

(Also, that whole scene where they have their guns trained on everyone and then they pretend to lower them? Genius. Sheer genius.)

And he's got Callypso to ♥ him -- and seriously, she's got hte power of those cute little stone crabs! Wo0t! Nothing beats having an all-powerful girlfriend!

♥♥ The third movie was my favorite, too -- followed by the first (because it was a fun standalone), and then the second. But man, the third movie hit so many buttons I have for fictional things -- gigantic epic-scale story! mortal/immortal dynamics! gods among men! underground governments! honor and lack thereof amongst thieves! I might've had too much fun with it♥

And honestly, I never cared much for Will/Elizabeth beyond a sort of "eh, they're cute and they're the movie's OTP, at least" -- but the third movie made me honestly root for them♥ But I did love the story between Calypso and Davey Jones -- I had friends mutter a bit about their ending, but I found it signifigant that the storm dies pretty much as soon as he falls into the water. :B

Though, for the most part, I kept looking at Will at this movie and thinking the DREAD PIRATE ROBERTSON. Which, you know, wasn't such a bad thing. XD

I'm sort of embarrassed to like it as much as I did, because - there's really nothing there, I mean, it's Mulligan stew, throw absolutely everything into the pot without a recipe, no rhyme or reason...but then, all the ingredients are so tasty, how can you not enjoy it?

Will/Elizabeth managed to hit my magic Miaka/Tamahome-Scott/Jean OTP button. It happens sometimes that there'll be a couple chars I don't care about one way or another, but when they decide that they are going to be in love no matter what they somehow trigger this response in me that I end up OTPing them, and in AWE they hit it.

And yeah, the storm dying was meaningful to me, though I would've liked a bit more. But still, the sea takes Davey Jones, and that's where he wants to be, and she wants him, so...

"AS YOOOOOU WIIIIISH!"

[identity profile] morganlilah.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Will/Elizabeth managed to hit my magic Miaka/Tamahome-Scott/Jean OTP button.

So does this make Jack Hotohori? *weg*

I still like POTC 1 best but I do believe AWE was an improvement over Dead Man's Chest.

I am completely unrepentant about it -- if everyone else had quibbles or problems with it, well, that's their own problem. XD *I* had fun, so I'm definitely buying it as soon as it comes out. :D (Also, the fact that Elizabeth became the Pirate King -- and I'm sure she's still pirating and such after the end of the movie -- makes me incredibly pleased.)

It just made me happy, the whole thing. :D :D :D

Yeah, now I wanna own the trilogy! Will probably be able to get a nice boxed set...I'm thinking I might want to blow the money to see it again on the big screen even, because yeah, f/x like that deserve all the size and volume they can get!

It was very happy-making, in a totally shameless way. ^__^

[identity profile] yma2.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't Sylar awsome? I felt the ending was a bit... meh. I saw it coming, to be honest and that's pretty rare from Heores. It didn't seem to quite fit with the tone of it generally, but there you go.
The Future one, however, was utterly fantastic, I loved Dark!Hiro. And I cannot wait to see the next series, it looks utterly facinating! I've heard they are going to look into the past and goings on of the 'previous' generation. I for one cannot wait to see what, (if anything) will be the power of Hiro's Father. (I wish I could remember this name.)

The season's end I kind of had spoiled, at least had heard enough that I knew for sure what was coming, so I have a hard time saying how predictable it was. The future ep was entertaining, though, and Sylar took me totally by surprise. I didn't care for his char for most of the series, he was too one-dimensional monster, but he's gotten pretty darn cool!

[personal profile] naye 2007-05-29 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I fear spoilers! But hopefully we'll go see it this weekend. Looking forward to it - glad you liked it!

Eee, Heroes! The future ep was SO COOL when we watched it right on the heels of everything that had come before. And so, so much love for Hiro and his Unspecial Ando that he will do ANYTHING for, and can't really be whole without. I'm so glad he lived! I was worried!

Mr. Bennet is AWESOME. Made of awesome. Yep. Pure awesome. (And I like Matt too, even though I found him and his wife horribly boring, and his future self was an ass.)

Also: Mohinder needs to be around kids, because it makes him absolutely adorable, and Micah and Molly should become best friends!

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Have fun with Pirates! I did, anyway ^__^

The future ep was great fun! Very X-men-esque and I didn't see Sylar coming, he really is a worthy arch-villain! --and yeah, Matt in the future was an ass, but so was everyone! There were no real heroes then, everyone had gone totally darkside. Which is what made it fun but also something to fight against with all they've got...!

Mr. Bennet, eee! Badass who still hugs his daughter, that was so cute...and yeah, Mohindar & Molly are adorable. Adoptive daddies always are...

Very curious where the show's going next year, now!

I noticed Nathan was creepy wrong but it did take me a while to figure out exactly why... Eee! Sewer-Sylar! XD

Bennet's going to help kick them all into proper hero-shape? Go after the baddies? (Tho' I like that they aren't sharply defined good/bad - makes it more interesting.) He could recruit his old partner to help him - LOVE Invisi!man's training methods. XD Beat emo-boy with a stick! Throw him off a building! (Helps that I'm having a hug fan-crush on Christopher Eccleston's Doctor Who...)

Next year - samurai!!

I didn't know what was up with future-Nathan, but the Sylar thing made me squee. Uh, you know, in a cheering on the utterly awesome evilness of it way. ^_^

So I should put Dr. Who on the watch-list? I would like to see more of Jack...
naye: A cartoon of a woman with red hair and glasses in front of a progressive pride flag. (the wonders I have seen)

[personal profile] naye 2007-05-30 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think I figured it out before, but it's just because Nathan was showing serious signs of Sylar's unnatural attatchment to Mohinder. (Was I the only one getting REALLY strong vibes off the the two of them when they were together, or...? At least Sylar was. Um. With the calling of Mohinder, and...? Yeah. So wrong, but I'd go for it! XD)

YES! Doctor Who is awesome British fun, and if you want to start with the Christopher Eccleston Doctor, that's just 13 (?) eps, so it's a fast watch. Goes down like candy - "oh, that was good, I think I'll have just one more...". Plus, it's a piece of sci-fi history, even if you're not watching the "old" eps. There's stuff in there that's as much a part of my general fan knowledge (Daleks, the TARDIS, etc) as stuff out of Star Trek - even though I'd never seen any Dr. Who before last week!

Plus - yeah, it's making me squee. A lot. ♥ Don't wanna spoil anything, but I had did squee vaguely about it in my LJ.

[identity profile] innueneko.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
If you stayed till after the credits, there was a short cut with Elizabeth and her erm, son waiting for will to come back ten years later. And then lo and behold! Upon the horizon comes Will sailing back on the Flying Dutchman! Uh, yeah.

I thought the movie was fun, although I'm not a fan of relationships built on lies and deceit. :/ Jack's ending was awesome though, and very much Jack in nature.
ext_3572: (too funny)

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, I always watch the end credits of movies and they pay off with Pirates ^_^ It sounds like maybe at that end, Will is coming back for good, or at least with the curse broken...

I don't care for relationships built on lies, but liked that at the end the lies had all come out and the romance held anyway. Besides, they're pirates, backstabbing is part and parcel of the deal!

[identity profile] innueneko.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't really get that part, could Will only come back once every 10 years? Or was the curse broken/he was free to go after working for 10 years? Cos who'd take his place then? o_O;;
ext_3572: (Default)

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have no idea ^^;;; Though really, how important is the job? It seemed to be going on okay even when Davy Jones wasn't doing it...? Now that Calypso's back, maybe she can do it...? Or - yeah. No idea!
But he made a pretty Dutchman Captain, that's all that matters! ^^

[identity profile] bagheera-san.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Barbossa ruled so much. I was totally meh about him in the first movie, but this one - yay! And the same for Will - he was still dead boring, but at least he was sorta hot. Huh. I'd never thought I'd say that about Orlando Bloom. Weird. And I could just squish Davy Jones and his squishy tentacles. *loves squids*

But this movie was so much crack. It didn't even pretend to make any sense at all, and I could for the most part forget that I have such a thing as disbelief except: 1) not freezing to death in the Arctic and 2) magically shaved legs WTF!
ext_3572: (cancan)

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Heee! I think the first movie wasn't nearly over the top enough. It gave me time to actually think and that wasn't in its best interests. This movie - zero time for coherent thought! All crack, all the way!

I will unashamedly admit that I find Orlando Bloom very, very pretty. He's on the scrawny side for me, but still, very pretty. And so much more fun as the Dutchman Captain than wannabe swordsmith!

magically shaved legs WTF!

Maybe she waxed when the Singapore captain had her hostage! She did have time to don a fancy awesome costume after all.

*squishes Davy Jones & his tentacles (sounds like a band name!) with you*

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Just saw Pirates 3, and it truly is loads of fun, and Barbossa definitely rocks! Also, I like Davy Jones' tentacles, and he and Calypso are absolutely together now at the bottom of the sea. *nods firmly*

Why'd you have to pick now to go be a good guy, Nathan? Even if you did go out being as incesty as it is possible to be with your brother. Umm. They were kissing when Peter exploded. You cannot convince me otherwise.

Of course Nathan and Peter were kissing when Peter exploded. As far as I'm concerned, that's canon. I'm just sad Peter never seemed to get anywhere near Linderman; if he had, he could have healed Nathan afterward. *deep sigh*
ext_3572: (cancan)

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Heeee I totally was thinking Davy Jones sank into Calypso's arms. Awww~! I'm a hopeless romantic. What can be cuter than a squid-lobster-man and a sea goddess in love?

And double hee, the sis and I spent several minutes post-Heroes-finale asking each other if Peter could have ever gotten near Linderman without knowing it. Or something. Maybe Nathan zipped away at the very last minute? Siiigh...well, it is a superhero show, no one's dead until you see the body and even then there's always alt universes, clones, what-have-you! *holds out hope*

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
OMG -- I literally just had this inspiration (no spoilers; just me thinking too much). Remember when Bennett had Ted burn 'bright but not hot' to take down the power so Bennett and Matt and Ted could escape the so-called paper company? Maybe, at the very last moment, Peter managed to burn bright but not hot, so there was the huge burst of light we saw in the sky, but Peter and Nathan weren't actually harmed. But by the time they got back down near ground level, all the cops and EMTs and everyone else and his brother were there, so naturally the Petrellis landed somewhere else, without witnesses, and thus they're still presumed dead by the other heroes, until they triumphantly reappear next season! Would that work? *crosses fingers and toes and hopes really hard*

[identity profile] chalk-of-doom.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I feel compelled to de-lurk and bounce around happily because I wasn't the only one who thought "OMG Luffy!" when they mentioned the words "Pirate King". *g*

Also, Barbossa + weddings FTW.
