SGA fic: more Pern-fic! oh noes!

So I'm supposed to be working on my story for sga_genficathon, but after a bit of a rough start on that, I went and wrote this instead. Oops?

It's a sequel to On the Wings of Imagination, aka Rodney's accidental Impression, aka the SGA/Pern fusion AU of DOOM. (Not, mind, the sequel I intended to write, which will go somewhere between that first story and this one). As such, warnings for a bit of crack, and h/c, and also cute overload. Seriously, I fear I've been writing too much angst lately, and this happened as some kind of reaction. Diabetics beware.

In which a certain bronze-rider and his very special dragon visit a hold, make a couple new friends, and undermine civilization as we know it; and Rodney eats something he shouldn't have.

Heeee...I haven't read Pern for years, kind of fear where it's at these days, with the endless sequels. But the original books made middle school bearable!

So glad you enjoyed both of them! I posted the previous one on my lj, but I wrote it back in January, so that might be how you missed it...(seems like you weren't the only one to ^^) They're very silly, I know, but fun. And very fast to write.

Miko is from a single SGA ep, which is why you don't know her (in "Letters from Pegasus" she's the shy Japanese scientist who leaves a message to her parents, mostly talking about her terrible crush on Dr. McKay) but she's pretty popular in fanon. Since she gets all of 5 minutes screentime in the show she's practically an OC.

And R'dek's name does work too well, no? He couldn't really have a female dragon - the only female dragons men can Impress are the greens, and I wanted him on a higher class dragon than that.

I'm hoping to enter my spring writing-spurt myself! For now though there's dinner (J's making meatballs!)

Ahh, yes, I knew there were female smiths eventually, but I couldn't remember when they came in! These stories are set somewhere around the time of The White Dragon...I've been cagey about the exact timeline because I haven't read the books in so long, I don't recall them exactly, and I don't have my copies with me now. Does Jancis get mentioned before All the Weyrs? Because that's quite a few Turns after this story...

Pern! And SGA! And I loved the first story, so I was so tickled to see this one. And your voices are perfect - I figured out it was Miko, not her brother, and I just love Rodney disregarding conventional behavior for something more important - knowledge. I love the bits you dropped about other dragons and their riders - I nearly laughed to death imagining the version of "Jack" "Daniel" that must go on between those two. And I loved Carson in this story and his "beastie" - so perfect!

Here's hoping you do more of these stories!

And Carson...I haven't actually decided yet, whether Carson can hear all dragons, or Shepparth was just breaking the rules for Rodney's sake. Carson as a dragonhealer amuses me, though, so...might be that! Will have to find out (I think I'm setting myself up to do more whether I intend to or not! ^^)

Hee, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I bet as much trouble as Rodney has with his dragon, O'Neill can commiserate and then some XD (I bet all of the Weyr is used to O'Neill going around saying "Danielth." at inopportune moments XD)

What a great story! I've never read the Pern books, but now I want to. Loved Shepparth as a dragon and Rodney as the reluctant rider, sorta like the reluctant hero of Atlantis. Please, please continue this series! It's a real treat to read :)

I'm still not an SGA person, but this is really very sweet, with the dragon going wild with fear and protectiveness when his rider collapses, and the Holder's daughter being so intimidated by her father and so convinced that she can't be a Smith, and the Healer fairly comfortable with dragons and quite willing to talk to them as he would to people. But am I imagining things, or is the Healer likely to get a bit...closer...to Rodney at some point in the future? Somehow, I don't think Shepparth would object to that as much as he seems to object to Rodney eyeing women. (Hmmm -- a slash dragon. *eg*)

The Pern books are spectacularly fun when one is a young teenager; I'm honestly not sure how they'd read to me now, but I adored them in junior high!

And the sequel I keep meaning to write would be called "The Reluctant Dragonrider," in fact XD

*laughs* It tickles me to know that the series not only works for someone who doesn't know Pern, but for someone who doesn't know SGA! (only goes to show how ridiculously fun the SGA chars are. The show itself is whatever, but I adore the chars!)

...Hmm, you're the second person to suggest Rodney/Carson. That wasn't really my intent...they're good friends in SGA, so I was just going for that (my problem is that, while I mean this series to be gen, pretty much...for all that the books are practically harlequin romance...my OTP keeps showing, and I'm secretly a pretty hardcore McShepper. So the primary 'pairing' is always gonna be Rodney/Shepparth ^^;)

These stories are wonderful! I haven't read Anne McCaffrey's Pern series for a very long time now (heh, I began with the original novella) but your writing just brought it all back. And your integration of the SGA characters is flawless - charaterization, cadence, humor - all perfect! Shepparth is a marvel! I too hope there will be a sequel (or two or three...)
