So I'm supposed to be working on my story for [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon, but after a bit of a rough start on that, I went and wrote this instead. Oops?

It's a sequel to On the Wings of Imagination, aka Rodney's accidental Impression, aka the SGA/Pern fusion AU of DOOM. (Not, mind, the sequel I intended to write, which will go somewhere between that first story and this one). As such, warnings for a bit of crack, and h/c, and also cute overload. Seriously, I fear I've been writing too much angst lately, and this happened as some kind of reaction. Diabetics beware.

SGA: With Healing in His Wings {~6,900 words}
PG; SGA/Pern fusion, h/c, fluff
In which a certain bronze-rider and his very special dragon visit a hold, make a couple new friends, and undermine civilization as we know it; and Rodney eats something he shouldn't have.

This is so, so good. I'm over the moon that you decided to continue the series. I love all the little details, and that Rodney's still Rodney, making Miko cry even when he's being nice. The tone of Shepparth's voice is absolutely spot on, and I love Carson calling him 'beastie'. Just perfect.

So much enjoyed, thanks.

Hee - so glad you enjoyed it! ^_^ I've been wanting to do more with this 'verse, but there's so many other things I want to write, too, that I haven't had the time. And this ambushed me, so there you go. The chances are very high there will be more, eventually!

Especially happy you liked Carson's "beastie". Since my other stories are 4th season, this was my first time really writing the good doctor, so...

(now, I just gotta ask - your icon is the greatest thing ever, but where did it come from???)

Well, Pern isn't quite medieval (the books are actually (nominally) scifi, it's a planet colonized by humans thousands of years prior who have since lost most of their tech but are slowly rediscovering it...which means I can fudge all sorts of science details ^^) But hee, Rodney & John are fun in any form! *spontaneously combusts from the cute*

I'm so glad you revisited this 'verse! Shepparth the drawling, lazy dragon! Miko of Kyohtt Hold! O'Neill and Danielth! XD (Okay, now I can't help imagining Danielth the anthropologist, pacifist dragon, driving his O'Neill NUTS.)

heeee~! Anyway! Obviously, sick, vulnerable Rodney, and worried Sheppar(th) are just about my favorite thing *ever*, and I love Shepparth's gentleness with him and, of course, ripping a hole in the tower to get him out, and terrifying everyone ...! And Carson hearing him (I can't remember from the books, can dragons normally talk to people other than their riders, or is that a Shepparth thing?) and his tolerant-affectionate attitude towards both of them. And the whole thing with Miko and the drawings -- I guessed where it was going, but that's just *neat*, and I love Rodney's typical obliviousness, never having noticed there aren't female Smiths and not taking Miko's "... but I can't!" for an answer.

Hee, so glad you enjoyed it! even with the spontaneous combustion...yeah, I love angst, but sometimes I just need cute. ...and h/c, of course. They go hand-in-hand with me, naturally ^^

(Kyohtt is actually an in-joke with myself - for some reason natives of Kyoto pronounce it that way, losing the final "o" sound. It's only folks from the city itself and oddly none of them seem to notice they do it...!)

I am having way, way too much fun turning people into dragons. (T'alc rides either Cameroth or Mitcheth - I haven't decided on the name. And Samantha rides Elizabeth...um, yes, I might be thinking about this too much ^^;)

In the books, it's implied that dragons *can* talk to other people if they really have to (they talk to the Masterharper when he has a heart attack at one point) but it's highly irregular. I haven't actually decided if this is Carson's talent, or Shepparth acting out. (Shepparth also talks to Teyla on occasion, and Ronon when they finally meet up with him, and ...yep, definitely too much ^^;)

I adore the Pern series, and yeah, it was one of the first to get me hooked into fantasy.
Wonderfully written, and I wonder who Rodney might eventually hook up with?
Carson?
Ronon?
Elizabeth?
Miko? No, no, she's too afraid of Shepparth... she needs to develop lots of confidence on her own, yet.
Katie?
Personally, I'm rooting for Carson. Heh.
Please tell me you'll write more in this verse? Pretty please?

*laughs* I know the books are borderline harlequin romance, but this series is mostly gen in my mind (...though Rodney keeps trying to get Shepparth to fly Samantha's gold Elizabeth. I think Shepparth would rather fly Thread than a Queen, though XD)

Oh dear! I don't know how I managed to entirely miss the first one of these, but I nearly died when I saw this post this afternoon. Had to go to the original first. Have just finished that, and it made a great break in a tiring and busy work day. As with everyone else who commented both on the first story and on this one so far, I love how you managed to perfectly maintain Rodney's, Sheppard's, and Teyla's characters and voices in the Pern universe, as well as so totally capture the enchanting feel of Pern and a Hatching and McCaffrey's books. I loved,
"No--nonono no NO!" he said 'succinctly.' The hatchling cocked his head to the other side. Yes, he replied even more succinctly."
Great fun! I enjoyed it way too much! Can't wait to read the new one later this evening.

Have now read the new one, too. Very cute and fluffy and fun. Is Miko an OC, or should I be remembering her from either Pern or SGA? 'Cuz if so, I don't. I quite enjoyed Rodney's interactions with her. Shepparth's fierce protection of R'ney is very nice, and Carson is... just very Carson. You know how I love him ("Beastie" is perfect!). Also love the references to O'Neill and Danielth and R'dek (his name works very nicely; very Pernish) and Lornth (although somehow I see Radek with a female dragon). Great fun!

I hope the joy in writing these is truly breaking you out of your general mid-winter writing slump and that getting them out of your system will help you focus on the stories you truly want to tell now that spring is here. {{{BIG HUGS}}}

Ahh, yes, I knew there were female smiths eventually, but I couldn't remember when they came in! These stories are set somewhere around the time of The White Dragon...I've been cagey about the exact timeline because I haven't read the books in so long, I don't recall them exactly, and I don't have my copies with me now. Does Jancis get mentioned before All the Weyrs? Because that's quite a few Turns after this story...
