SGA fic: more Pern-fic! oh noes!

So I'm supposed to be working on my story for
sga_genficathon, but after a bit of a rough start on that, I went and wrote this instead. Oops?
It's a sequel to On the Wings of Imagination, aka Rodney's accidental Impression, aka the SGA/Pern fusion AU of DOOM. (Not, mind, the sequel I intended to write, which will go somewhere between that first story and this one). As such, warnings for a bit of crack, and h/c, and also cute overload. Seriously, I fear I've been writing too much angst lately, and this happened as some kind of reaction. Diabetics beware.
SGA: With Healing in His Wings {~6,900 words}
PG; SGA/Pern fusion, h/c, fluff
In which a certain bronze-rider and his very special dragon visit a hold, make a couple new friends, and undermine civilization as we know it; and Rodney eats something he shouldn't have.

Date: 2008-03-24 05:35 pm (UTC)This is so, so good. I'm over the moon that you decided to continue the series. I love all the little details, and that Rodney's still Rodney, making Miko cry even when he's being nice. The tone of Shepparth's voice is absolutely spot on, and I love Carson calling him 'beastie'. Just perfect.
So much enjoyed, thanks.

Date: 2008-03-24 05:45 pm (UTC)Especially happy you liked Carson's "beastie". Since my other stories are 4th season, this was my first time really writing the good doctor, so...
(now, I just gotta ask - your icon is the greatest thing ever, but where did it come from???)

Date: 2008-03-24 07:45 pm (UTC)And this is a lovely, lovely story. You're doing a fabulous job of keeping the SGA characters in character and keeping true to the feel of Pern. Totally awesome. :)

Date: 2008-03-24 09:10 pm (UTC)I'm so glad you revisited this 'verse! Shepparth the drawling, lazy dragon! Miko of Kyohtt Hold! O'Neill and Danielth! XD (Okay, now I can't help imagining Danielth the anthropologist, pacifist dragon, driving his O'Neill NUTS.)
heeee~! Anyway! Obviously, sick, vulnerable Rodney, and worried Sheppar(th) are just about my favorite thing *ever*, and I love Shepparth's gentleness with him and, of course, ripping a hole in the tower to get him out, and terrifying everyone ...! And Carson hearing him (I can't remember from the books, can dragons normally talk to people other than their riders, or is that a Shepparth thing?) and his tolerant-affectionate attitude towards both of them. And the whole thing with Miko and the drawings -- I guessed where it was going, but that's just *neat*, and I love Rodney's typical obliviousness, never having noticed there aren't female Smiths and not taking Miko's "... but I can't!" for an answer.

Date: 2008-03-25 01:16 pm (UTC)(Kyohtt is actually an in-joke with myself - for some reason natives of Kyoto pronounce it that way, losing the final "o" sound. It's only folks from the city itself and oddly none of them seem to notice they do it...!)
I am having way, way too much fun turning people into dragons. (T'alc rides either Cameroth or Mitcheth - I haven't decided on the name. And Samantha rides Elizabeth...um, yes, I might be thinking about this too much ^^;)
In the books, it's implied that dragons *can* talk to other people if they really have to (they talk to the Masterharper when he has a heart attack at one point) but it's highly irregular. I haven't actually decided if this is Carson's talent, or Shepparth acting out. (Shepparth also talks to Teyla on occasion, and Ronon when they finally meet up with him, and ...yep, definitely too much ^^;)

Date: 2008-03-24 09:21 pm (UTC)(Will we ever get to see Shepparth in a mating flight? Maybe with Katie Brown as a junior queen's rider? *grin*)

Date: 2008-03-25 01:18 pm (UTC)(The series is pretty much gen in my mind...or really wacky McShep...but who knows where it'll go! Though Shepparth is more interested in flying Thread than flying queens anyway...)

Date: 2008-03-24 09:46 pm (UTC)I loved the first installment, and this was an excellent sequel. I hope you do more in this AU. The Pern books were my introduction to science fiction, too. :-)

I want more, dammit
Date: 2008-03-24 10:27 pm (UTC)Wonderfully written, and I wonder who Rodney might eventually hook up with?
Carson?
Ronon?
Elizabeth?
Miko?No, no, she's too afraid of Shepparth... she needs to develop lots of confidence on her own, yet.Katie?
Personally, I'm rooting for Carson. Heh.
Please tell me you'll write more in this verse? Pretty please?

Date: 2008-03-24 10:30 pm (UTC)Seriously though, I feel bad for the weyrleaders who have to put up with Rodney. And this sentence? Well, almost half, since I'm in the male half, and that'll throw the proportions off just about killed me. This whole thing is awesome and wrong, but mostly awesome.

Date: 2008-03-25 01:54 pm (UTC)And so glad you liked that line, I was kinda partial to it myself...oh, Rodney. ^^

Great fun! I enjoyed it way too much! Can't wait to read the new one later this evening.

Date: 2008-03-25 01:21 pm (UTC)I hope the joy in writing these is truly breaking you out of your general mid-winter writing slump and that getting them out of your system will help you focus on the stories you truly want to tell now that spring is here. {{{BIG HUGS}}}

Date: 2008-03-25 02:04 pm (UTC)Ahh, yes, I knew there were female smiths eventually, but I couldn't remember when they came in! These stories are set somewhere around the time of The White Dragon...I've been cagey about the exact timeline because I haven't read the books in so long, I don't recall them exactly, and I don't have my copies with me now. Does Jancis get mentioned before All the Weyrs? Because that's quite a few Turns after this story...
