I have spent the last few months trapped behind one of the worst writing blocks it's been my misfortune to encounter. Am finally, finally feeling like I might be chipping my way through it - hopefully to really get going on my [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fics (omg I am so sorry, I have not forgotten, I swear! orz). In the meantime I am latching on like a leech to the slightest bit of inspiration that comes my way, and the latest Identical story seems to have stirred up my Clex fangirl (not difficult, she's never deeply buried.)

So, here's a new story in the Subterfuge universe, my fluffy future fic AU (and this addition rates a feather-tucked-into-a-cottonball on the Lint Scale of WAFF.)

Smallville: The Best Laid Schemes {~9,000 words}
PG; Subterfuge 'verse; Clex + Conner, h/c, fluff
Even the best superheroes and -villains can't cover every contingency; sometimes things just go awry.

(posted on AO3 like all the cool kids are doing, feel free to comment here or there. Or both! You know me, any feedback is appreciated and admired and cherished like a dragon with her gold.)
xparrot: Chopper reading (clex heart)
A bit later than expected, mainly because of my aforementioned trouble with smut and the writing thereof. Even when it's quite light smut! Sigh. Don't expect much out of this; as I said before, it's fluff, really, albeit fluff with a superhero identity Agenda. Which promptly gets lost in the semi-smut but hey, what can you do? Hope you enjoy it in spite of itself!

Smallville: The Right of Truth (2/2) {17,598 words}
R, Clex, h/c; second season
Lex is kidnapped and it's Clark to the rescue as usual, but he might not be ready for all he finds.

Next week we (hopefully) will return you to your regularly scheduled fic. For now - gratuitous Clex h/c, set in late second season. If I had been watching the show back then, this is just the sort of fic I would've been writing: slash angst-fluff, pretty much, exploring an issue about Clark's secrets (and in fact most superhero secret identities) that's been bothering me.

Warnings for a bit of good old fashioned Lex!torture in the beginning, and generally woobie!Lex. Also the Kents are perhaps not very nice here, which wasn't my intent, but how it worked out. Hopefully in an IC way, but still. (And may I say *sigh* that being an asshole is in character for SV's Jonathan...)

[And now an important message from our sponsors: You've likely heard of this already, but if you haven't, [livejournal.com profile] fanarchive is something to check out for any fans, especially fans of fanfic of any variety, any fandom. Interesting stuff happening there.]

Elements of Lex's characterization here are inspired by the "Lex Luthor: Man of Steel" comic. Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for the beta. Meanwhile, back with the other Lex...

Smallville: All the Difference, 10/? {4,094 words}
NC-17, Clark/Lex, futurefic, AU (in a manner of speaking)
Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, infinitely far from all he knows. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, just as far from home...

Part 10: In which Lex has dinner, a conversation, and one chance against the alien. )
xparrot: Chopper reading (clex hug)
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for the quick beta!

Smallville: All the Difference, 9/? {2,625 words}
PG-13, Clark/Lex, futurefic, AU (in a manner of speaking)
Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, infinitely far from all he knows. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, just as far from home...

Part 9: In which Lex goes in without a safety net, and encounters the trouble one would expect. )
xparrot: Chopper reading (clex hug)
People remember it! Yay! Thank you for your patience, and my apologies for the delay, I am so very easily distracted, and my life's been busy enough to throw my writing schedule out of whack. Hoping to get back in the groove now that things are settling down again. There's a whole long hideously, fiendishly hot & humid Kyoto summer stretching out, and no SV to fill the void save what we make ourselves!

Regarding the next part of this story, a brief disclaimer: I have only seen select episodes of the Superman animated series. Thus, Mercy is generally writing herself, with relatively little input on her character from me.

Smallville: All the Difference, 8/? {3,438 words}
PG, Clark/Lex, futurefic, AU (in a manner of speaking)
Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, infinitely far from all he knows. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor wakes up in his own bed in his own penthouse, just as far from home...

Part 8: In which questions are answered and agreements are reached. )

I'm recovering from a cold (*cough* *snort* *sniffle* *whiiiine*), wrote this sick from a fever-conceived idea. So it's pretty rough; I might polish it later, not sure I'm going to bother. Smallville, not really Clex, alien invasion futurefic AU. Sort of dark, sort of post-apocalyptic, plenty weird, and so Lex-apologist your head will spin.

...Almost everyone, raising their eyes to the skies, realized the world was ended either way.
xparrot: Chopper reading (clex - so your place?)
SV's been giving us angst, but not the fun kind. So. Totally gratuitous Clex angst, written at [livejournal.com profile] gnine's plea, thus I disavow any responsibility. It's set in the Subterfuge universe, after the death of Superman and before Kon's birth, as mentioned in "A Constant Struggle". Right now this is less a complete story, more a couple snapshot moments. See, I've never read those comics, am just going by Wikipedia and a few random tidbits I've picked up, so...do any of you comic fans want to point me to summaries/scans/collections to buy? Please? As this 'verse is all about reinterpreting canon, I need to know what canon is, in order to warp it! Any help you can offer, I'd be much obliged.

Warnings for cliche and unresolved aaaaangst (it does have a happy ending, as it's a prequel to the other Subterfuge stories - that ending's just not written yet, is all), and AU Kents - in this 'verse, Jonathan never died.

Smallville: Freefalling {8,997 words}
PG-13, Clark/Lex, AU futurefic, angst
The death of Superman, and Lex deals. Or not so much.

And that's all she wrote! Well, of this. There will be more of others. Er. (I'm also vaguely tempted to do a follow-up to this, as the PG-13-ness of the resolution might frustrate...and the rest of the season might well frustrate even more, depending how it goes...but we'll see.)

I have to say thanks for the great reception this fic has gotten, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed all the comments. I wrote "Contingencies" out of a dissatisfaction with the way the series has taken the Clark-Lex relationship, however predestined; it seems I'm not alone in my sentiments. Whether or not the end is what you expected, I hope it doesn't disappoint!

Smallville: Contingencies, 7/7 {5,922 words}
PG-13; Clark/Lex; 6th season; angst, drama, h/c
Lex, forced to his last resort, comes to the Kent home, and Clark must rise to the occasion, as he finds himself questioning his assumptions about his dying enemy.

So after rewatching most of "Progeny" I decided that Lex is the hero of the ep, at least comparatively speaking; he was attacked first, and spent the ep trying to contain a dangerous emergency situation that was his responsibility, as cleanly as he could.

I also decided that after Lex, my second favorite character is Lowell, the hat-wearing super-strong meteor mutant with two lines of six words total. Obviously his story needed to be told, and since I don't know if we'll ever see him again, I went ahead and fic'ed it.

This is pretty unapologetically Lex-apologist, or else not at all; take it as you will, and remember as always that no narrator is entirely reliable or unbiased. Either way, Lex needs some minions, darn it!

Smallville: Loyalty {3,695 words}
PG-13, gen, drama; spoilers for 6th season, ep tag for "Progeny"
Meteor freak Lowell's take on the events of "Progeny", 33.1, and Lex Luthor.

I need to start posting this now, before the final eps of the season blow it completely out of the water. Hopefully I'll finish it before they start airing...hope no one minds a bit of fic spamming in the next couple weeks.

This is about my favorite non-futurefic SV scenario, which I've been wanting to try my hand at, though this...got a bit out of hand. It's the classic 'Lex turns up at the Kent farmhouse in dire straits', given a 6th season twist. This is not quite the story I was intending to write. I have a feeling it needs a warning, but I'm not exactly sure for what. Let's see: it's dark, it's angsty, it's sappy, and it may go shamelessly over the top in any of these directions. I can promise a light at the end of the tunnel, but it's going to be a long tunnel.

Major spoilers for the entire series, especially "Solitude" and "Vessel"/"Zod," and all of 6th season aired thus far.

Smallville: Contingencies, 1/7 {5,957 words}
PG-13; Clark/Lex; 6th season; angst, drama, h/c

To quote my old anime club - "Ewww, heterosexuality!" Yes, warnings for a bit of plot-related het in this chapter (this thing does in fact have a plot, as such; it just took me this long to get to it...) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for the beta.

Smallville: All the Difference, 7/? {4,961 words}

Part 7: In which questions are asked, missing persons are remembered, and Lex miscalculates. )

I dashed this off in all of an hour; [livejournal.com profile] gnine was going through "Justice" looking for shots for her latest art, made a comment about Oliver and Clark; I retorted with something I've been saying about Clark for a while, then realized it was a fic waiting to happen.

Smallville: Looks Like a Billion Bucks {1,387 words}
PG-13, Clex, 6th season, silly
Clark has a significant revelation about certain moneyed acquaintances.

My first non-darkfic dip into Smallville canon proper rather than futurefic, and my second time with Clark's POV. This is actually a distant prequel to the Subterfuge universe, but stands on its own without any obvious relation in plot or tone to those later fic. It's a 5th season episode tag, taking place an hour or two after the final scene of "Mortal," and might be the first of a sequence of AU ep tags. I quite enjoyed 5th season overall, but in a "what it could have been" way more than a "this is the way it was" way, and AUing it amuses me.

Title from the Scrubs soundtrack, a musical number far too lovely for a silly comedy, which is just one more reason why Scrubs rocks so hard; when I was deciding what to call this story, my playlist shuffled to this song, and I'm not one to look a gift title in the mouth.

Smallville: Waiting for My Real Life to Begin {5,136 words}
PG; pre-slash (hints of Clark/Lex; references to canonical Clark/Lana), ep tag to 5x02, "Mortal"
Clark runs home from the Talon; Lex is waiting for him.

But wait, there's more! My apologies for the delay in posting, hope folks are still interested? ^_^
Before this story proceeds any further, I must disclaim: I know very little or nothing whatsoever about economics, business theory, the stock market, architecture, zoning regs, computer mainframes, quantum physics, or in fact most of the things Lex Luthor is an expert in, making much of the plotty bits of this story an exercise in pure bullshit. Viva la technobabble!

I have to say I love writing Lex's POV, getting to use whatever wonderfully esoteric English vocabulary I can sweep up from the far dusty corners of my brain. I am very fond of my language, wacky as it is. Thanks as always to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for riding herd on my linguistic stampedes.

Smallville: All the Difference, 6/? {3,419 words}

Part 6: In which Lex is too busy lighting candles to bother cursing the darkness, or the Batman. )
xparrot: Chopper reading (Default)
Beware of sap. (And falling typoes! [livejournal.com profile] gnine tried to give a beta but we're both still under the weather and easily distracted.) I'm terribly fond of this variation on Lex and the Clex, so this is likely not the last you'll see of this universe. Or Conner, because he is really far too much fun.

Smallville: A Constant Struggle, 2/2 {5,467 words}
PG-13; AU futurefic, Static Shock x-over; mild Clex and V/R
Robert and his boys are invited over to family dinner with Lex Luthor and three generations of Kents.

At last, not darkfic!

This is part of what I've taken to calling the Subterfuge universe, now with added comic canon to leaven the AU Smallville and JLU blend. It's the direct sequel to "According to Plan" and like that story is technically a Static Shock crossover, but this is much more a Smallville story. The SS characters are mostly there to be observers; Robert Hawkins's down-to-earth understanding makes him a convenient foil to the totally functional dysfunctionality that is the Clex in this universe.

Smallville: A Constant Struggle, 1/2 {6,610 words}

Okay, I take back what I said about Lex in "Promise." This is what's really going on. Major props to [livejournal.com profile] jakrar for inspiring us to peer deeper into the mechanism, and to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for hashing out more of the details.

This is a fanfic and episode meta in one. I could have written yet another essay, but this was more fun and only took a couple hours to dash off. The characterization might make more sense if you're aware of our current interpretation of Lex.

Smallville: Promises to Keep {2,063 words}
PG-13. Warnings for meteorfreak!Lana and mastermind!Lex. Well, less warnings for the latter, more reassurances. He's been sorely lacking of late in the show proper. Also massive spoilers for "Promise." The dialogue and action are all from the episode's script; the words in between are mine.

( Lex Luthor is used to desperation. )
xparrot: Chopper reading (lex - villain)
SV 6x16, "Promise" - no spoilers, but Oh Em Gee, I love Lionel, puppet master extraordinaire. Dance on his strings, boys and girls. Hah. (This is why I like villains. Everyone is miserable - and making me miserable watching them - except Lionel, who's snug as a spider in its web...)

[livejournal.com profile] gnine's been ill, but felt well enough to beta tonight (thanks hon!), so here you go. Don't know about you but after that ep, I need the pick-me-up. Man, I want me some 6th season reconciliation!Clex...

Smallville: All the Difference, 5/? {3,631 words}

More "All the Difference" soon; meanwhile I wanted to get this up before tomorrow, on the off-chance the new ep will joss me.

This...I've been wanting to write fluff. This is not fluff. It's not even Clex. You see, I am not one for hating characters. I have my favorites, definitely, but usually when I get into a series I find something to like in all the chars. Even those who threaten my preferred pairings I usually will enjoy aside from the romance disasters.

Lana Lang is the exception to this rule.

Smallville: As Moths {2,327 words}
PG-13, gen with hints of canon pairings; spoilers for 6th season, and a convincing bit of fanon; dark
Lana Lang had found her destiny elsewhere, and maybe that was best for everyone after all.
