SGA fic: more Pern-fic! oh noes!

So I'm supposed to be working on my story for [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon, but after a bit of a rough start on that, I went and wrote this instead. Oops?

It's a sequel to On the Wings of Imagination, aka Rodney's accidental Impression, aka the SGA/Pern fusion AU of DOOM. (Not, mind, the sequel I intended to write, which will go somewhere between that first story and this one). As such, warnings for a bit of crack, and h/c, and also cute overload. Seriously, I fear I've been writing too much angst lately, and this happened as some kind of reaction. Diabetics beware.

SGA: With Healing in His Wings {~6,900 words}
PG; SGA/Pern fusion, h/c, fluff
In which a certain bronze-rider and his very special dragon visit a hold, make a couple new friends, and undermine civilization as we know it; and Rodney eats something he shouldn't have.

I love this... I hope there is actually more of this eventually. :)

Cuuuuute!!
Loved Shepparth freaking out and breaking into the Watchtower to get at Rodney. And that Rodney has completely restructured things to the way he wants them. (And Shepparth talking to Carson, even though they so don't usually do that.)
The pairings of dragons and riders at the beginning made me squee! R'dek and Lornth! Danielth is 'magnificent!' Awesome.

So glad you enjoyed it - and yes, chances are good there will be more, sooner or later!

Heee, thank you!
I may be having way too much fun making various chars into dragons... XD

LOL

Haha. I love this. Pern was my first real fantasy series, and even if I have since grown very disillusioned with McCaffery's actual competence as a writer, you never forget your first. Combine that with my most favorite sci-fi universe ever, and there is instant love. Aside from which, "Shepparth" is not only the most interesting dragon I've ever read, but is completely in character. Quite a feat, considering he's not even in species. I knew it was him in your first story before you ever gave his name. :)

I'm curious, though. If Ronon is off exploring the Southern Continent, who is this mysterious "R'dek," who is riding Lonrth?

Hee - glad you enjoyed it! That's pretty much my exact opinions about Pern...I haven't actually read any books in the series for a good decade or so, because I know they can't measure up to the thrill they gave me as a young teen. But it's a delightful universe to play in, and John really makes quite an excellent dragon!

R'dek is Radek Zelenka, mainly because Lorne/Zelenka is my sekkrit crack OTP ^^; (I haveta write more sequels just to get to Ronon! I'm missing him fiercely!)

YES SEQUELS!!!! >.> I totally blame you for me re getting into SG:A...and it was your fault with Psych...=P

Oh, I just love this! Rodney McKay -- obliviously barging thru cultural divides without even noticing they were there...! I'd like to see what happens when he shows up with his smith candidate. Every one of the Atlantis characters is very true to canon here; and who can resist John as dragon? (Not me, clearly.) Hope you feel inspired to write more in this series -- or just more SGA, for that matter. {Friends you.}

So glad you enjoyed it! They really all work surprisingly well in this 'verse - lots of fun to write, anyway. And I likely will write more of them here - I will be writing more SGA fic, at least, that I can guarantee, hope you continue to enjoy it!

Oh...so lovely! More please!

[identity profile] joeb15.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
I loved this! The Pern series was one of the 1st fantasy series that I read, and to have it combined with SGA is inspired. I hope you write more soon, pretty please :)

I've only just found this fic and I love it every bit as much as the first one! And I want more!! Yep, I'm greedy and I don't care!!!

Carson was great with his 'beastie' comments; Miko was spot on and as for Rodney and Shepparth - *loves*!

Please, X-parrot, can I have some more?

Hee, so glad you're enjoying 'em! I'm having a blast with this 'verse myself, so, yeah, chances are high there will be more ^_^

Soooo, *looks up and smiles prettily*

You'll be writing more in this awesome universe, right? 'Cause it's sooo damn cool and Pern is a great universe to play in.

Hee, very likely - glad you enjoyed it! ^^

ahahaha oh I just ran into this on del.icio.us and I had to say AWESOME. Like apparently everyone else I have the geography and culture and everything of pern burned in my brain from when I was 12, and this oddly... kind of read more like a short pern story than anything. You know, the stupid prejudiced people, the few chosen good ones, the crying women. Sigh, excellent job :D
My favorite part by far was sheppard as a dragon- brilliant!
If I remember correctly McCaffrey has forbidden fanfic with her characters, but this makes me really wish there were more crossovers out there.

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, glad you enjoyed it! I was definitely trying to recapture the feel of the books - the feel they gave me, melodrama and brave bucking-the-prejudices-of-society heroes and dragons and all - very happy to know it worked for you.

(McCaffrey has recanted somewhat on the issue of fanfic; she allows stories set on Pern, but not using her characters. So as far as I can determine, my stories are pretty much kosher, but...)

[identity profile] tymbrimi.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
yeah! it's funny while reading her I got kind of sick of the formula, but now it's kind of nice to re-live it.

anyway, just to clarify, I didn't meant to say you were doing something wrong! I meant since you're not using her characters, it's awesome and fine, and there should be more :D

[identity profile] nexusofcrisis.livejournal.com 2008-05-11 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. I read Pern when I was a young man, and the last tale I read from there was The White Dragon, which (I'm almost ashamed to say, being a thirty year old man) I adore to this day.
I like this better.
You win.

As you are victorious, you of course realize that you will be continuing this universe for the indefinate future, yes?

Good. Glad we're all on the same page.

Hee, I am so glad you're enjoying it! I have an unreasonable fondness for McCaffrey's 'verse, and I'm so happy that I've been able to recapture that feeling for so many of us. And I will be writing more sometime, though I can't promise when...

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww! This is more awesome! I haven't touched Pern for years, but this story brings it all back. Rodney as a rider? Great stuff. I think my two favorite bits are the mentioning of O'Neill and Danielth and the below:

Rodney, are you undermining civilization as we know it again? Shepparth inquired suspiciously.
"What? No!"
So you're just making girls cry again.

Not to be greedy, but...more, please? ::holds out porridge bowl::

Oh this is really good - I do hope there is more of this please as it was a delight to read.
Rodney is so perfectly rodney and sheppard just makes the coolest dragon!

Thanks, I'm so glad you enjoyed both of the stories! I am hoping to write more in this 'verse, just waiting for the right lightning bolt of inspiration to strike ^^
