misc.

In no particular order:

* Have finally seen White Collar! Every bit as cute and OT3-y as everyone says, I quite love it. USA is so very good at providing just the kind of lightweight fun I particularly like in my TV. And it's slightly more serious than Psych, which I like because it allows for bits of h/c. And the one thing I really want to see, (Peter getting hurt!), the show might actually be giving us, if the previews for next ep and this spoiler pic are anything to go on. If there were a little more to the show I might be actively fanning; as it is I've read through most of what's on AO3 (my favorites are bookmarked)...if anyone has any recs not on AO3, for either gen (Peter/El) or OT3, set me up? (I am fine with seeing Peter as entirely straight. Even if Tim DeKay apparently is not! :P)

* Speaking of the AO3, we've officially broken 100,000 fics! (If you want to join the fun, the invitation queue isn't that long a wait, or else ask and I can see about hooking you up with an invite ^^)

* Also watched Sherlock, as it came out, while I was visiting [livejournal.com profile] gnine in London, no less, which was a trip, with all these places popping up onscreen that I'd just seen. Sadly I seem to have missed the fannish boat on this one. I mean, I liked a lot of it, thought the updating was very clever and it was well-shot and Benedict Cumberbatch most closely matches my mental image of Holmes among all the actors I've seen in the role (and he does a fabulous job with the part, too). But there were things I didn't like about it, and overall I prefer last year's movie adaption. And then, too, there's still not enough for me to fan on - I'm slow to win over; it tends to take at least a full season for me to really fall for a series. Hence me having few movie fandoms.

* Speaking of London, oh man, that was such a fantastic trip. Didn't do everything I'd have liked to, will have to go back, but it was marvelous and I love the city, it's thrilling and alive and old, it's got that sense of history, the presence of the millions of people who have walked its streets over the centuries, that the Japanese cities do and American cities don't, really (even Boston, much as I love Boston.) Also we made it to Wales, went to Cardiff and ran across the Ianto Shrine, which was very special and hysterical and I love fans, I really do.

* Speaking of other stuff, I am still not writing. It's driving me slowly insane, and then when I'm depressed I have more trouble writing, which makes me more depressed, and fuck vicious cycles anyway. Argh. There's fic I want to finish, and fic I want to write, and then there's original ideas I've been poking at, and something better congeal soon...

* ...Or I could blame the not-writing on my brother for giving me his PSP with Disgaea. It's one of his favorite games of all time and he's been wanting me to play it forever but it was still mean, as he knows how obsessive I get about games, and Disgaea feeds on the collect 'em all/keep leveling up completion instincts to cruel and unusual degrees.

* I ought to do a music post, I've been listening to a bunch of my old anime OSTs and am inclined to inflict awesome* BGM on people. Until then have a lovely cover of "Fireflies" (this kid's got a gorgeous voice!) Found through this highly entertaining musical face-off: Recorder vs Glockenspiel, fight!
   * X-parrot's definition of "awesome" may not concur with anyone else's on the planet.

* No new Ben 10 until October, siiiigh. Apparently they couldn't resist delaying the hour-long special ep until 10/10/10 :P

* Ow ow ow. Kitty is kneading her claws into my bare leg. She could just be being affectionate but she might be hungry (Anna only really loves me for my opposable thumbs) so I better go make sure she has food.

The... what?

Apparently this has been around since CoE aired last year - on Cardiff Bay, where the "official" entrance to Torchwood was (where Gwen delivers pizzas in the first ep, and Ianto sometimes gatekeeps), there is a shrine. To Ianto and Jack/Ianto. Fans have brought petitions and pics and fanart (in plastic folders for weather protection) and coffee cups and paper crane chains and flowers and little Ianto teddy bears, and tied them to the grating. Much to the bafflement of hapless passerbys who have never heard of TW ^^ (there's a sign explaining what's it about, but...)

Gnine's got pictures she'll have to post - here's a shot I found on Google which gives an idea, though when we saw it there was even more stuff - the whole grating was covered with stuff, a couple layers deep, some of it!

...oh my. I. I had no idea. I have got to see these pictures.

I, too, love fans. *g*

See link in my comment below: the Cardiff blogger's site therein has some lovely pics of the shrine:)

Ooh, thank you! :D

edit: I probably shouldn't be taken back by the encounter described in your entry (sigh), but I rather am. All kinds of kudos to your friend the maintainer.

FYI, and that of the commenter who asked about The Shrine Wot It Is: My friend Melissa, who I rather introduced you to at one point, helps run that site. Here's (http://daisymay-dayz.blogspot.com/2009/11/cardiff-bay-and-torchwood-tour.html) another blogger's explanation of it, while this (http://captainsblog.livejournal.com/804769.html) is my re-telling of Mel's encounter with Teh Stupid outside the shrine a few weeks back.

Also, you and sister-unit are prolly the only ones who can see this offer (http://captainsblog.livejournal.com/815378.html), but check it out, as it relates to said Sherlocking.

Blech, that's terrible, that your friend had to deal with that. Though I'm glad she persevered and saved it, we quite enjoyed coming across it!

Sherlock, ehh, I'll have to see how I feel about it when there's the next series out. Right now I'm pretty neutral and have no real wish to rewatch it, but it did have compelling elements...

Hee hee, welcome to the love that is "White Collar". I fell in love about three minutes into the first episode, and then met El and decided that she has essentially decided to KEEP Neal, only Peter and Neal don't realize it quite yet. But it's El, she has the power ^_^

But it's El, she has the power

Hee, I know, it's awesome! So glad she's going to be back in the show for real, I've missed the actor being semi-away this season ^^

[identity profile] topaz-kat.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, she was having a baby, I think we can forgive her that.

Dang actors, how dare they reproduce?! :P

(I totally understand, really, and I liked that they wrote around it by having El's business take off - it was great to have Peter being the "work-widower" for a bit. Still, happy to have her back! ^^)

Hope the depression eases soon.

Totally agree on London, just the most exciting city in which to wander about, a new bit of history around every corner.

Love that an Ianto shrine exists!

Thanks, I'm hoping to get back to writing soooooon! Before I go completely mad...

Kyoto is still probably my favoritest city. But London was marvelous and I really would love to go back, and maybe live there for a time.

And the Ianto shrine is a thing of beauty - fangirls rock!

Disgaea is awesome dood.

White Collar, now I might have to watch it, I'm currently in Merlin and all its adorableness that is Colin Morgan. Sam_storyteller haz written for WC, OT3 goodness and might have more in the works since he mentioned research in his blog.

Heee, I'm playing through Etna Mode in Disgaea now (she has a prinny that she stuck antennae on and is now claiming it's Laharl, bwahahahah) and then I am PUTTING THE PSP DOWN before I start on Disgaea 2 (even tho' it's my bro's fave of the series) because, uh, TIME SINK, dood >.>

I'm iffy about Merlin but yes, Colin Morgan is adoooorable. Definitely rec WC if you're in the mood for cuteness! And yes, Sam's OT3 I've got bookmarked, saving it for last since I know I like his stuff ^^

Next thing you know, you're going to Item World all your best items and 1ko-ing the boss. Hee, have you gotten most of the endings yet?

Well one thing I can count on is that Merlin will never break my heart since I've read the spoilers, and the fandom seems to be set on high pitch squeee over the two main.
ext_3572: (Default)

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
...I only go to the Item World when I'm, um, bored...? ^^;;;

I've seen all the easier endings (good, normal, the ones where Flonne or Etna kills you) though there's a few more left (nooooo I don't need to see those! really I don't!)

And yes, Merlin is in some ways the redemption of Smallville. (Well, at least if you're an Arthur/Merlin fan. I'm sort of a Morgana/Gwen fan, so...! :P)
ext_9839: Yuko (Default)

[identity profile] lukita.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes you do! You need to see ALL the endings! dood =D

SV needs to DIAF, of all the places they could have taken that show, they went with the most insulting to the viewer's intelligence. (Bitter? Me? nooo~) (I ship everything, I read lots of Arthur/Merlin cause most stories dood, there are several Morgan/Gwen fics at the latest Merlin BigBang.)

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeee, welcome to White Collar! Isn't it fun? Now, if I could only persuade you to watch Burn Notice which has less pretty, but smart writing AND more whump, we're all set. ♥

Can't believe you were in London. That's so close! If you're ever in or near Amsterdam, let me know. :)

Hee, I've already caught that boat - I've been watching BN faithfully since its first season. (the bro turned me onto it when I turned him onto Psych.) Love it muchly (zomg Fi! zomg Madeleine! zomg Sam and Sam & Fi especially!) and this last cliffhanger (zomg Michael! zomg why didn't you guys just lock Jessie into a hotel room, chain him down and TELL HIM???? SIIIIIIH....)

(actually upon watching WC the first thing we started doing was plotting a WC/BN x-over. Neal would so be flirting with Fi, over Peter's protests, until they got into hot water and the big guns came out and then Fi would be like, "So, shall we do that drink now?" and Neal would be, "Um, yes, you see I have this thing, over there," and Peter would be, "I told you so...")

I was in London but it was quite the whirlwind tour, I didn't have time to look up practically anyone! Really will have to get back for a more leisurely visit, with more time for people...

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2010-08-31 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I just finished watching the midseason finale and ZOMG Michael!!! November!! Arrrgh.

actually upon watching WC the first thing we started doing was plotting a WC/BN x-over

A WC/BN crossover would be the best thing that has ever happened to me fandom. XD

sorry to hear you still having writer's block. But be assured it WILL come. It's apart of you and when the characters have relaxed and had their adventures in your mind they will start to pester to be let out. When they keep knocking on your thoughts then trap them in paper to shut them up.

I had one character rattling around in my brain for almost 10 years before she finally had enough and demanded to be written.

(very belated response, somehow missed this comment until now, gomen~!) Yeah, that's in general how I get over writer's block, just waiting for some char to hoist the mainsail and drag me along! I've started something new (original fic) and while I haven't gotten far on it, I'm hoping it will go somewhere ^^
