on Thor: The Dark World
Nov. 8th, 2013 03:05 pmOH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD
The god in question being:
LOKI LOKI LOKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Who has quit being god of mischief or god of lies, and is now God of Snark.
And buddy cop movies.
And pulling Reichenbachs on his poor poor brother.
And WAS CAPTAIN AMERICA AND OH MY GOD WAS HE ACTUALLY SAYING "Truth, Justice, and the American W--" and then Thor cuts him off before DC can sue!
Also Darcy was hilarious dipping her intern and Jane Foster was made of science-obsessed awesome and FRIGGA ;____;
--I had spoilers about the Frigga arc almost a year ago, a stuntman spilled that basic plot and while they tried to write it off as a fake leak - there were many others at the same time, like Loki was secretly Malekith, etc - that one sounded so plausible, I just knew. But if she had to go out it was kicking Malekith's ass and wearing a gorgeous battle-dress and the funeral was lovely...
...and Loki oh Loki in the cell with the illusion and Thor knows it's an illusion...
And Heimdall - now that I know Idris Elba, woooooow those contacts YES PLEASE and also he TAKES DOWN A SPACESHIP, sees it coming and forget giving a warning, he's got this covered!
Poor Erik Selvig. (if he's this badly affected - how is Clint doing?)
And the final battle with the realm-switching and poor Mjolnir, trying so hard to come to Thor!
But before - the escape and the barge argument and "Mother wouldn't want it" and "But she wouldn't be especially surprised by it either" and the plan and the other plan Thor doesn't guess and brother holding brother and Loki's "I'm sorry I'm sorry" and even though Thor is the only person in the theater who doesn't realize it's an illusion, the way Loki says it OH GOD MY HEART.
(Tom Hiddleston I hate you so much how are you this good, it hurts how good you are...)
I have no idea if this was a good movie or a bad movie but it was a movie with Loki, and Thor, and Loki & Thor, and all the others, and laughs, and I want to see it again~~~~
Also the sibs and I have headcanons, so I ficced them:

Date: 2013-11-09 09:46 pm (UTC)I found it really interesting how the movie seemed to be downplaying the Thor/Jane relationship, though! Like, they literally compared it to the Convergence, with the context of how it happens only once every 5,000 years and only lasts a day and that's it. And none of the criticisms of "She's going to die in what's just a heartbeat of time for you, Thor." were ever really negated or rebutted? ....I confess, though, that this is how Thor/Jane works best for me, so I was kind of pleased with how they came off in the movie. (Well, I was less enthused with Jane's characterization, but.)
And then there's Loki. Who clearly planned something, but we don't know how much was deliberate and how much was spontaneous, and he's such a manipulative shit and yet entirely sincere at the same time and I just. SO MANY FEELINGS.

Date: 2013-11-09 11:21 pm (UTC)I admit, I've got such huge biases here - I haven't had many favorite characters as...intense?...as my Loki-favorite-charactering, and never a movie character that I can recall, so that made the movie a different experience for me. And it honestly had more Loki and Loki&Thor than I was expecting! So I was happy enough there that I can't really be subjective about anything else. That being said, I really enjoyed the whole movie, I thought it was funny and fun and exciting and pretty much anything I'd ask from a superhero action movie.
And the world-building, Asgard especially, OH! I was so very tickled by how many elements from my own fic were in the movie - most of it was pretty obvious to guess but still, so neat to see it! The Asgardian techno-magic is so very cool...
I actually liked Jane, as well as the Jane/Thor. Their relationship is this very strange thing that it's basically a summer fling for Thor, and a lifelong love for Jane (about 60-80 years either way?)...but my impression is that both of them are aware of this, and okay with it, and there's no reason that it can't be a functional relationship? Every time someone tried to remind Thor that Jane was mortal, he just seemed to be thinking, "Well, yes, I know, that's why I'd like to spend time with her now, while I have her?" Love isn't any less real or heartfelt just because it's short-term...
I was actually surprised, the little bit I have been on Tumblr (reading over my sis's shoulder yesterday!), that people seemed to dislike Jane's portrayal...I quite like Jane and I didn't think she came off that bad at all; while they did damsel her a bit and she was out of it due to Aether-infection for much of the movie, she was rescued before the climax so she got to help save the day in the end; and frankly she handled everything a lot better than, say, I would've! XP
But I admit all of that was trumped by the LOKI~~~~!

YES ALL OF THIIIIIIISSSS~~~!
(oh god when he drops the illusion in the cell, I think half the audience made a sad noise...)
The scene on the skiff yessssssss...I need to see the movie again mostly for that scene, so much going on emotionally there...! (and Hiddleston and Hemsworth both knocked it out of the park of course, wow...)
And his death-scene apologies - even if that was an illusion...Loki's lies are always more truth than not? though I kind of think a lot of it is pre-emptive apologies for what he's about to do. Which, oh god poor Thor, this whole movie is like the worst week of his life, he loses half his family in one sweep (...though he doesn't actually know himself *which* half...)
OTOH...I think that in his own way, Loki was actually trying to make it easier for Thor - he made sure Thor saw him go out heroically, and for an Asgardian, that's the best way to die, the way that Thor would be least hurt by. I think Loki might've been trying to let Thor move on - and yeah, partly because he wants Thor on Earth and out of his way - I think that's why he kept saving Jane, too - but Loki always has a million different motives and I don't think hurting Thor was one of them, this time...

Date: 2014-05-02 02:48 am (UTC)--And the Captain America cameo, HAW! Have you seen the extra with Tom Hiddleston in the Captain's costume, acting the scene for Chris Evans to follow? So we have Tom Hiddleston pretending to be Chris Evans pretending to be Loki pretending to be Captain America...that's meta for you! XD
