I spent my formative fan years on Godawful Fanfiction. Even after I grew bored of snarking fanfic, that toxicity I learned and even internalized took years to overcome. Its a big reason why I'm so pro-ship now: I've been where they've been. I've seen it and it's not good or healthy to focus so much time on tearing down things you hate.
