thank you! and yeah, whole fic was mostly written trying to capture that happy little-boy smile as he fits those two pieces together. Picture worth a couple thousand words, etc.
Stupid manga. If it were all duels it would be so easy to ignore. But then the stuff crammed between the duels is just too fascinating to pass up.
The thing about chibi-Kaiba is that then you can dig into all his angst and OMG trauma. Present day Kaiba still has it, but it's buried under thick layers of snark and psychopathy and general bastardness.
Have you seen MadamHydra's Kaiba past-fic? just found it last night and quietly died of joy. The two that killed were "Moving Forward," which covers an accomplishment of his I hadn't considered before; and especially "Mighty Wings" - I'm very partial to the outsider's perspective, and finally having someone take note that yeah, super megalomaniacal CEO or not, he is just sixteen. And the lovely little glimpse of Death-T-building psycho!Kaiba. Plus the tidbit of caretaking!Mokuba is death by adorable, God knows his nii-sama needs a keeper.
