onto Otakon

Off to Baltimore tomorrow for Otakon - my 5th now. Don't have any especial plans, it's just gonna be me and gnine wandering around cosplay gawking and having fun. And buying manga. Does that count as a plan? There's money burning a hole in my pocket that could be Japanese volumes of Yu-Gi-Oh instead! *ahem*

I picked up Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander at Borders a few days ago, because it was on sale and I enjoyed the movie and have been meaning to check out the books. 40 pages in and loving it, I'm so weak to 19th century and pseudo-19th century literary embellishment. I can only take so much of it at a given time, but for the length of a book or two it is such a delightful read. Makes me smile. That the official name of the novels is the "Aubrey/Maturin Series" also makes me smile...wonder if anyone's ever explained to the publishers the alternative reading of the "/"?

Safe trip to you~ I won't be heading down until friday morning (I'd rather tomorrow, but ride-beggar’s can't be choosers'...) I'd only recognize you in Luffy (if I'm lucky), so if you see my wandering by, wave 'hi'. ^_^ (Yes, I AM that oblivious... and nearsighted)

I happen to love Master and Commander, no joke. Patrick O'Brian, from the interviews I've read, pretty much lived in the 19th century, so I don't think he had any idea what alternatives to '/' were

unfortunately I'm not cosplaying this time around, and I'm at least that bad at remembering faces, if not worse (and my vision's better than 20-20 so I got no excuse ^^;;;) but hopefully we'll bump into eachother anyway, somehow? would like to!

and thanks, glad you're enjoying the YGO ^^ there will be more OP, too...I'm just a wee bit Kaiba-obsessed at present...

I'm looking forward to reading more of the series, I really do enjoy this kind of thing. and the fact that it's a series named after the friendship of the two guys makes me all happy even aside from the slashing implications.

Otakon will be great! all these awesome people such as ourselves will be there, after all! ^__^

I'm up to the 7th or 8th book or so right now. So far, the third book, HMS Surprise, is my favorite right now. Maturin sure has a lot of steel. So, of course, does Aubury. And there are TEN TRILLION slash implications. What makes it even better, is that O'Brian was probably completely unaware. :D

Say! If you'd like to just give me a holla at Otakon, call me at 301-748-4316! :D It's always good to speak to a fellow fanfiction writer. :) I totally don't mind.

*laughs* Ya, I have a horrible memory for faces too- which is why I figured I'd be lucky if I recognized you in Luffy, even. (Didn't figure you were cosplaying- guessed you'd have mentioned it. ^_^) Hmmm... Nah. I went poking through old con-pics for a reference to share, but ya... I remembered how horrible I look in all of them. *gags* I'll just have to hope one of us has a moment of recollection and says -'hey, I recognize you...' ^_^ It'd be nice to run into you again.

So, now that I'm done rambling- I'll stick with 'have a safe trip', and 'have fun'. ^_^

And with the O'Brien books, actually. ^_^ Be sure to point out to Jeannine the Maturin-torture scene (you'll know it when you get to it, it's the one with his hands), as Kristina described it to her and she seemed...interested...in the promise of lots and lots of h/c. XD Also look forward to the bit where Jack has to dress up as a dancing bear and Steven as his trainer to sneak across the border, just because it kills me.

I wasn't cosplaying this weekend, so if it was someone in costume, it wasn't me...and if it was me, I really totally missed you, I swear I wasn't upset, I just was completely dazed & oblivious (I spent much of the con that way...sharing a hotel room with the sis = very fun, great way to plot fic, *lousy* way to get any sleep) I'm really sorry? *very disappointed to miss you*

You didn't notice me- you were with sherriaisling on Saturday, on the lower level kinda by the dealers room at the time, with a person of the male variety whom I don't know. (At least I thought she had said that was you- I thought it was, looked like I'd remembered you, but it was hard to tell since you hadn't looked up. No, I didn't expect to see you in costume- you were one of those 'normal folk' at the time. ^_~) She said you were upset about a problem with water 7 Luffy, after I tried to say 'hi', and then I felt like a heal because it looked like you may have been crying, but I could be totally wrong because you were looking down. But that's what I had gotten by the way she said it, and how you were sitting, so I either feel like I was being rude, or that I'm dumb for mistaking that, but oh well.

I did want to say hi, though, so pretend I did- sorry I didn't catch you at a better time...

Hmm, nope, that wasn't me. I didn't meet sherriaisling or anyone else from lj at the con, only RL peeps (quite a few of them, actually). And I didn't see any W7 Luffy's either, so...not me ^^;;; wish we had run across each other - dammit, I need a celphone! was pretty much impossible for me to find anyone...

Aah, well, while I feel dumb now (but I'm fairly sure [and I only say it that way because I'm doubting myself now] she DID say it was you...) I no longer feel guilty. ^_^

Pity we didn't run across each other again- that would have been fun. If you ever get around to getting a cell, I'll totally give you my number, next con. (They're ever so usefull there- I think I would have been left behind if I didn't have mine. o_O)

Oh no, an imposter! Actually, that thought had occurred to me on your last reply (evil twin? I thought you had to have one of each...? Just kidding. ^_~) Ya, that has me pretty curious as well- if I'm not feeling too dumb about it, I might have to inquire with her, to see if I was just hearing things, or if the person she was with really did say that.

Not sure what the next one for me is either- though I have people vying for me to go to Ausa, Anime Reactor, AND Katsucon- don't know what I'll let myself get suckered into yet; Otakon is almost permanent, though, since that's the only time I see one of my friends who lives in the area. Although... Japan might just make me rethink that one. Planning on an extended stay, or just a trip over? I was originally going for vacation next year, but that got a little messed up. Pity, I was looking forward to it. If you manage it, you've gotta let me know how it goes. ^_^

As for con's and cells- let me know, I could be /anywhere/, with how things have been going. *laughs*

Heh, J-chan said she found the Maturin-torture already, but that it wasn't long enough ^^;; I'm still not much further in (Japanese class started up, suddenly out of lunchbreaks to read!) but still enjoying the book...am gonna have to get more! I want to see that torture scene myself... ^__^
