I'm even more impressed with your mother! I'm still at the hiding-fanfic-from-my-kids stage.
Since--after more than a couple decades not writing fic--it is my girls who got me back into it, and since they're the ones who introduced me to most of the anime I've seen and to yaoi, and since they have been sharing most of their writing with me since they were very small, it has been natural for us to share our fic writing. I think it was a little awkward for all three of us, at first, to read each other's slash. I didn't want to admit they knew that kind of thing or would write about it, and they certainly didn't want to know their mother even thought about sex--especially sex between two males--let alone would write about it. But since we have always been able to talk about almost anything, and we enjoy sharing what we read, write, and watch, we got past that awkwardness pretty quickly.
What I had more difficulty with for a long time was admitting to the on-line public that I--as old as I am and as entrenched and respected a community volunteer and educator as I am in our town--am also an anime/fanfic/yaoi fan and Xparrot's and Gnine's mother. The first anime fanfic I wrote was expressly for them, and they had some convincing to do to get me to post any of it on ff.net; and when I posted a bio on that site, I was loathe to admit much of my true identity, and I referred to them as "friends" who had introduced me to anime and encouraged me to post. When I finally registered for an LJ the other day, I think they were both pleased to see that I'm finally comfortable admitting to the online fan world that I'm their mom--and proud of it!--as well as an older-than-usual fan of anime and yaoi.
If your daughter follows in your fangirl footsteps, I'm sure you'll have a blast sharing the passion with her when she comes of appropriate age. Enjoy!
