Ahhh, I know exactly how you feel! The watch-and-rant is our standard pattern...we haven't tried to swear off it yet because...um...we're masochists enough to know we'll be back for more anyway? But it is an abusive relationship, definitely...
Heh, I keep coming up with AU ideas! I've been tempted to rewrite 4th season and have two different rewrites of 5th season in mind...the problem with the show is that there is good stuff there, but it's buried in the stuff that makes one scream (most of which has a convenient name: Long-term Annihilating Negator of Awesomeness, or: LANA :P))
