Who sound clips

I upped these for naye, but anyone who wants is welcome to snag 'em. When reading on the train, I prefer listening to instrumental pieces as lyrics distract me, and I love soundtracks, so having worn out the 3 PotC OSTs, I naturally snatched up the Doctor Who OST. However, it is only for the first two series, which is a crying shame because series 3's music kicks so much ass I am at a loss to describe it. It's the same composer, Murray Gold just hit his stride in a major way.

This left me with nothing to do but to clip mp3s from the show itself. Which proved a mistake, because I got the music I wanted, but I got the voices, too. Which means that not only am I rewatching scenes, but I'm relistening to scenes as well. On the train. My reading suffers. (Sorry, Harry (Dresden. Potter's not for a little while still.)) On the other hand, it's akin to watching anime raw; you can appreciate the vocal acting that much more without the distraction of visuals. And for the record, David Tennant could be a voice actor. Heck, he could be a seiyuu. A bishounen seiyuu.

Which is another way of saying, damn, but the man can scream good.

The mp3s. Not the best quality, apologies, and they were all chosen for the music (er, initially) so some cut in odd places. Spoilers for the eps in question, naturally.

"And now it's screaming!" - I. Uh. Am kinda in love with this bit. The music - this is the action theme I adore - and also I can't get enough of the Doctor, all that fury and pain. You know how certain seiyuu scream such that it not only hurts their throats but actually sounds as if they're getting their still-beating hearts ripped from their chests while they're standing in the studio? And I mean that in the best of all possible ways? Yeah, Tennant can do that.
Victory - "Burn with me." Eee. And I can't say how much I love this theme.

They shall not grow old. - the last 4 minutes of the ep, the music alone can break your heart.

YANA - the climax of the ep, the action theme again, a different variation, more percussive instead of the vocals . Not sure which I prefer, I hope they're both on the OST. (And Derek Jacobi being evil, which is just, Yes. Also has the Doctor's "What did he say?" and I have mentioned what that particular tone of his does to me?)

Run! - a short bit of music, but eee.
Gallifrey - I keep humming this theme. (extra long clip so I could get to that brief snatch of the Torchwood theme. Had nothing to do with getting in certain lines of Jack's. Really.)
End of the World - the final four minutes (including "Voodoo Child") and in general so much kicking of ass and taking of names and the Master being Masterly and you don't need to see the aged-makeup, either. Is it bad that I can recognize DT's breathing? Yeah, I thought so.

While I'm at it - any Who fan who's seen up through series 2 but hasn't heard "Song for Ten", get it now. It's the song that plays near the end of the first Xmas special, the wardrobe selection scene. It was written for the show, and then there was this extended version written post-Doomsday, and the lyrics' contrasted with the upbeat tone just fit Ten so very perfectly.

Mmmm. Yes. Just - all these clips, I do know what they do to you, because they're very much doing things to me too. Things I'm quite sure "family shows" aren't actually supposed to do to you. (Have I mentioned yet how much I love RTD?)

Murray Gold is brilliant. I've been listening to the first two seasons on repeat, and - right now my favourite is "Madame de Pompadour", and "The Impossible Planet". Quiet, beautiful pieces. Absolutely lovely.

(By the way - in Japan Seki Toshihiko is Ten. Do you - do you even want to THINK about what he's going to do with all the gratuitous screaming? XD)

Wow. Listening to the narration and the speech at the end of FoB totally gave me goosebumps. It's not just fun for fanning purposes - it really does give you a whole new appreciation for things you don't have the time to notice as you watch. The music, the wording, the tone of voice as those words are said.

The music is beutiful for all of Doctor Who but I do have to agree, in this third season its' been particually awsome. I actually loved the stuff in Utopia. The buildup of the drums, the ending with the Master Escaping in the Tardis, really good stuff! And I love the main theme of this season too, as soon as I can I'm getting it on MP3 because I keep humming it, hehe.

So far, I've really liked the subtle evolution (haha) of the Dalek's theme throughout the series -- how it goes from being the lone voice to the full chorus to the frantic desperate go-go-go that we last heard it as.

But I love "Song for Ten" and "Love Don't Roam," and actually, I really like the lonely strings that you hear in the music for the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit episodes; it really sort of puts me in the mood of Firefly. (I tell you, Blue Sun = some child branch of Torchwood. 4reelz!)

We've only seen the first two episodes here, so far, and I noticed how great it was right away.

My sister and I were talking on the phone last night about how great the season is, overall, and we can't wait for the next ep. I've heard it gets better and better as the year goes on, and that's scary. :-)))

Best kind of family show ever! Something for everyone...including les ladies and the budding h/c fen... ^^

He really is great. "The Face of Boe" is one of my favorites now, and "Doomsday" of course. I also really like the Cybermen theme. But the 3rd season stuff tops it all.

(I remembered Seki was Ten, but wasn't thinking about the screaming...hmmmm. Wonder when 3rd series comes out in Japan...)

I didn't really notice much of the music until 3rd season; going back now, I appreciate the first 2 seasons, but this season has been so fantastic I was seriously wondering if it was a different composer. He's really come into his own. And yeah, I loved the music in "Utopia" - the sound of drums indeed!

Yeah, the 3rd season's music just gets better. As does the season (it levels out for a bit there - I think "Gridlock" is one of the very best of the show, the ones after are good but maybe not as great, but the second half of the season is just an ever-ascending climb to awesomeness)

Yesss~! Don't you just love the thought of what the kids growing up with this are going to achieve when they grow up to be tv-producers and writers and actors and f/x people and ficcers? Just like all the little Japanese kids who've grown up on One Piece. I mean - look at what happened to those who grew up with Classic Who! ♥

"Doomsday" goes without saying - it's such a bittersweet piece, it captures the atmosphere perfectly. I just never can separate it completely from the scenes it accompanied, and that's kind of cheating, because that emotional impact - ow!

A quick look at Japanese Wiki doesn't tell me when 3rd season starts in Japan, but they have aired all of S1 & S2 (so there is Doomsday!), and I let me just say that I adore their episode names! "Love and Monsters" is エルトン君の大冒険, and "Doomsday" is 永遠の別れ. (I say this after looking at the German B5 names, which left me going O_o.)

Blue Sun is where the Hands of Blue come from, and also (it's implied) the people who're responsible, ultimately, for what happened to River.

I've seen a few crossovers, but most of them seem to focus more on the Doctor's interaction with Inara, rather than River, which I find kind of a shame. If I could write either series, I'd give it a shot -- as it is, I'll just have to imagine it, grandious and overblown, in my head. ;)

I wonder what TV shows will be like in 3 decades. They've changed a lot since the late '70s, wonder if they'll change again so much, and if so into what...

...the Japanese ep titles are adorable. Elton-kun's Big Adventure? Awww! (that ep sorta kills me, though, why'd it have to be so sad in the end? :( )

While I know not every person in the world is obsessed with Doctor Who, I'd kind of, vaguely hoped that iTunes would do a celebrity playlist for the Master. To me, that would have been awesome. I would have wanted to see his Evil World Domination Playlist.
