up to her old tricks

I would just like to take this moment to say, yes, I am going to finish Remembering to Breathe. And Darkness Visible. And a few other things that you hopefully don't know about. I just need to get these pirates out of my system.
So I posted the end of Overboard last week, and tonight I posted the beginning of Seven Deaths. Also known as the fic which ate my brain. Also known as the fic my dad is reading. My father, who I love, but who doesn't like anime, who has never seen an ep of One Piece and is probably happier that way. He hasn't read my fanfic since my X-files days - seven years ago. But my mom (who I'm happy to call one of my favorite fans) told him this one wasn't yaoi, and had original chars, etc, and so he tried it. And professes to like it. Um.
The thing is, a few of my fic I actually have faith in as writing...'literature' of a sort, some more successful than others, but stories that stand on their right, even if I'm borrowing the chars. Then there's the fic I write just 'cuz...and then there's this one, which is probably about the purest hurt/comfort I've done since...umm...Descent, I think. Technically, yes, it has a plot. Which exists entirely because keeping these chars in char and getting what I wanted to happen, to happen, took extreme measures and a lot of pages. It's not that I'm upset Dad's reading my fic - I'm posting the thing anyway, it's open season, and I'm happy he likes it. But I have this strange feeling that I'm cheating somehow...he's reading expecting a story, and I'm writing expecting...er...my characters to be in pain and caring for one another. But maybe I'm underestimating the h/c genre. It's all concerned with relationships, after all, and what else does most fiction boil down to in the end?
...and if anyone asks, it's all Hirata Hiroaki's fault. His voice just screams whipping boy. (...and screams it so nicely, too. Hence the problem.) Sanji isn't even my favorite character...(if it's not Hirata-sama's, it's Zoro's, for reasons I won't get into now. And of course J-chan's. As usual. And
naye. Much blame to go around!)
