I don't even have that much of a problem with the idea of canon romance rather than the sheer amount of screen time dedicated to McKay/Keller.

Take Teyla. She has a child and whatever the Athosian equivalent of a husband is. There's a bit of canon romance I don't mind at all. Why? Because it's not turned into a major plot point except for "Prodigal". We hardly ever see Kanaan. We hardly ever see the kid, either. We know they're there, we know she's happy, and that's enough. If Teyla had continued angsting over team vs. family and her various obligations to both, I probably would have started disliking her bit of romance as much as I've started to dislike Rodney's. But her issues were resolved quickly and now her relationship and motherhood is a sweet background thing that brings a smile to my face whenever it appears on screen.

I realise that's probably more the writers not knowing what to do with this thing they've established there than true skill, but it works. Just as McKay/Keller doesn't work for me, because it keeps being pushed into my face when I'm still fighting to accept Keller as the Fifth Main Character, rather than just the fifth wheel.
