SGA: 5x20 "Enemy at the Gate" *whimper*

Oh, show! I will miss you...for all my whinging this season, I'm not ready to say goodbye...
What really hurts is that this would've made a fine season finale - it's not quite a cliffhanger, but it sets up a lot of interesting stuff to be dealt with, and that we won't get a season to do it - that we might not even get a movie - it's sad.
But it was a fun ep! I'd spoilered myself for a lot of stuff, but not everything - and there was a lot there...
Kavanaugh, hee! All the cameos were nice. Love Woolsey, but Sam, I do miss you! And the mention of General Hammond was sad but nicely done. And then Caldwell! Lorne! Radek! Keller! (her bit with Woolsey was one of her best scenes of the season.)
And most importantly: TEAM! Team team team!
We got Rodney, Ronon, & Teyla running around together! Could've been more, but I have been wanting that for a long time, so yes, happy-making.
Rodney! Was sciencey and smart, and his hair was fluffy and his lashes long, and oh, I love the meek way he says, "Earth," they're in such deep shit that he's a few parsecs beyond panic. Of everything about the show, it's David Hewlett's McKay that I'm going to miss the most.
Also, he and John are mindmelded. Eeee~!
Woolsey talking to Ronon and Teyla about Pegasus and their responsibilities...not as much as it should be, too little too late, but at least it was acknowledged somewhere, eventually.
It wouldn't be John Sheppard if he didn't end up on a volunteer suicide mission, flying a nuke. Oh, John. The team better thwap him good for this stunt.
Jason Momoa has way too much fun playing dead, no? But Teyla and Rodney with Ronon dying, and how much do I love that Lorne has to drag them away - lovely, lovely!
They get to hear John's good-bye! Awww...
Though seriously, how awesome would it have been if they hadn't gotten in touch in time and John had blown the nuke? With his whole team inadvertently going up with him? Together to the last? I mean, yeah, major death, tragic, etc, but oh, the irony!
A couple points of anti-squee:
Is Teyla's last line in the show really, "I'm sorry, John"? Like, nine minutes from the end? Man. And Ronon got Amelia but Kanaan and Torren didn't merit so much as a mention, that I heard.
And then, the end...it wasn't as bad as I was dreading (hell, a few episodes ago I was thinking there was going to be a McKeller proposal...) But it was still frustrating...the timing of the musical swell to accentuate Rodney & Keller was unfortunate, and then in that last shot, why couldn't Rodney have been standing a little closer to Teyla? Or he could've reached out to touch her shoulder, or she could have touched his...something to bridge the gap, to unite the team in the final image.
All right, anti-squee over! Speaking of that final image - anyone else get Star Trek IV flashbacks? ...Okay, just me, then.
Awful convenient for Todd to show up with those ZPMs just when they're needed most. And now he's on Earth, too...
And they get extra ZPMs, and promptly bring Atlantis to Earth - bwahahah, Victorsverse, much? And up in the air whether they'll let it go back...lots of fic potential there.
The wormhole drive thing...hmmm. Might come in handy for my own devious fic purposes.
I'm sure there was more, but I find myself not wanting to think about it. So, for now. Yeah. Okay. That's the show.
That's the show. But Rodney, John, Teyla, Ronon, Radek, Woolsey, Lorne, Sam, Amelia, Atlantis - they're ours, now and forever.
And I don't know about you, but I'm not planning on giving them back!

Date: 2009-01-10 06:15 pm (UTC)Now I've got to write a post-ep fic, and I'm staring at a blank document. There are holes to fill aplenty, but none are really calling to me.

Date: 2009-01-10 06:35 pm (UTC)But the episode was awesome. Action pure with very little romancing - someone finally remembered that it was a scifi show, not General Hospital! Great :)
And why do you think that there won't be any movie? Mallozzi said that both the SGA and the SG-1 movies will start filming in late spring/early summer with release date in 2010...

Date: 2009-01-10 07:44 pm (UTC)Hell yeah.
I'm not going to miss the show terribly, but after this surge of post-series fic, I am going to miss it all slowly going away. Probably to that Merlin show, eh?

Date: 2009-01-10 08:30 pm (UTC)Amelia & Ronon: Sweet. I wasn't happy to see John so readily dismissed by Ronon *gulps* but ... oh well. At least Amelia is a good match.
I loved the similarities between this hive ship battle and the one we saw in flashbacks in Vegas. I can definitely see one or two darts making it to Earth's surface undetected and history repeating itself. And Brad Wright claiming they don't have enough stories for a season 6. Ha! Fiddlesticks.
I have been hysterically worried about the final image you posted a while back, and it turned out much better than I thought. But wasn't Carter in that promo pic as well? I can't find it anymore.
Bye Team. ♥

And to me, that's the best part of season 5 (bar 3 episodes) !!! :D
Finally the writers can make it right and nice and all SGAy again :D

Date: 2009-01-13 03:01 pm (UTC)I know, I know, the inspiration and the love need to be there to write. And you're a serial monogamous fan, so once you've moved on to a new love, it's hard to go back. But... but... please stay in love long enough to give John and Rodney their just desserts after the hell you've been putting them through! Please don't leave us with the hurt without the comfort.
Love you (and your writing) muchly, of course, however it plays out.

Date: 2009-01-20 09:53 pm (UTC)I recently fell head over heels for the SGA series and have spent the last two weeks or so nailbiting and lol-ing (oh, the Sheppard+McKay snark is killing me!) my way through the first four seasons (had to close my eyes as I scrolled down this post ^^). I loove it! ^_~
anyways, I saw you have some recs for fics and such, mind if I pop by now and then to check for more? or even friend you?
have a good day ^_^
