Yuletide is posted! I lucked out with two fics, both wonderful fun friendshipping - for Sapphire & Steel there's Quiet and Peace (an Epilogue in Dialogue), a lovely post-series tale - Steel being a comfort for Sapphire in his own special Steel way, and bonus Silver FTW! And then for Red Dwarf there's Upgrade, which is perfect, with dialogue and plot that had me literally LOLing, and then it winds up sweet in just the terribly wrong Dwarfish way of being sweet.

Holidays with the family have been nice, and now that I have given my gifts I will have to post them (have gotten into amigurumi - I've known how to crochet for years, but it never quite occurred to me to make cute stuffed toys before...)

And Sherlock Holmes was exactly what I wanted it to be, e.g. awesome and fun and funny and slashy as hell (or unbelievably old-school smarmalicious! pick your poison!) and I hope it inspires a legion of ficcers, because I've secretly been into Holmes/&Watson for years and it would be great to have company. Also, sekrit message to Ritchie, Downey, Law et al: with the sequel? Please to be including Reichenbach Falls! <3

Yay! So glad you had fun with your family - and a good Yuletide on top of that.

Ahh, I wonder when we'll get Sherlock Holmes here?

*big hugs*

Even if you're not doing much for Christmas itself, hope you have a happy New Year! ^__^

(Sherlock Holmes was so much fun - I found it more enjoyable than Avatar (Cameron's, not the Airbender of course) - though it's true I've loved Sherlock Holmes for ages, and I actually thought this was a truer adaption in some ways than some others...truer to how I'd like to see the chars, anyway!)

Glad you had a good Yuletide! One day I'll untangle myself in November/December enough to join in on the fun :)

I ♥ the new Sherlock Holmes film so much! I just grabbed the complete Doyle collection for my Kindle and am working my way through it (and noticing how incredibly close the movie characterizations are to the books, or is it my imagination?)

It is totally not your imagination; Ritchie's Holmes & Watson are closer in attitude of the versions that exist in my head than any other film characterizations I've seen. RDJ doesn't quite look the part, but he does it so~ well that I don't care if his eyes aren't gray. And Jude Law is perfect and oh man I already want to see the movie again. Seeeequeeeel!

(enjoy reading the original fan canon! they're marvelous fun stories ^_^)

Haha! My devouring of canon is going slower than expected! Of course, I keep taking breaks to watch Holmesian movies, so that might be the issue there(!)

I forgot to mention... apparently Stephen Moffat has been working on a "modern day" Holmes series that's premiering sometime next year on the BBC.

Heh - I haven't actually seen many Holmes movies (at least not for a long time) - though I've been wanting to watch all of Jeremy Brett's Holmes for a while...

A modern day Holmes? Hmmm...there's also something with Torchwood's Ianto playing Watson due to come out whenever, I believe. 'Tis going to be the Year of Holmes! (you won't see me complaining!)

Haven't seen it yet, going with my Holmes club, just going from the NPR review. Reviewer didn't seem to get that the boxing is canon, though Watson's comment about Holmes' hygiene seemed odd (though, one will tend to lie in print if the truth would incriminate). The notion of Holmes swiping Watson's clothes sounds delicious.

The boxing is canon, the action in general is canon! My father questioned Holmes carrying a gun, but again in the actual canon he's more than once mentioned wielding a pistol. Conan Doyle's Holmes was the pulp fiction of its time, pretty much, so interpreting it in modern blockbuster idiom seems appropriate to me. And Holmes's hygiene is repeatedly described as deplorable in the canon, so nothing about that seemed off to me...

...I admit it, I loved the movie, even if that makes me a bad Holmesian XD

Evidence does migrate into the butter dish and Watson remarks about other laxities that he, himself of lower standards than entirely suited in a medical man, simply cannot abide, but Watson also mentions a cat-like fastidiousness. But yes, Holmes was a man of action. Lazy as he might be when not spearing hog carcasses.

I'm so looking forward to seeing Holmes at the cinema - I'm not the biggest fan of the books, I had to study some of them at school, they just didn't grab me - but I will brave Jude Law (though ppl have been saying he's great) for RDJ.

Because RDJ is awesome. =D

RDJ is totally awesome - at least, he's as awesome as Holmes as he was as Tony Stark, which in my eyes, is Pretty Dang Awesome!
