10/10/10 means new Ben 10 and it was fun and awesome, I just love old-school superheroes and supervillains and space opera and it continues to deliver. Also Kevin/Gwen is still the cutest couple that has ever cuted, and there was Professor Paradox, and Kevin proving how smart he really is, and a bit of worry, and canon finally confirmed what TPTB had already suggested (and what I used in my fic-canon, so extra yays there) - that Kevin doesn't absorb energy anymore because energy absorption drives Osmosians insane, and that's why he was so off the rails as a kid. (Though apparently, however Kevin found this out, he hadn't shared with Gwen and Ben, because Gwen was surprised to hear it.) Also Paradox's little aside/warning to Kevin, about remembering who his friends were, ahhhh so set up for lovely terrible evil things to happen to Kevin (please please please let it be him having to suck energy and losing it and Gwen & Ben bringing him back. Such a cliche and predictable story and I will love you forever & ever if you go ahead with it, show!)
ETA: And of course they had to take out Max for the duration, because otherwise Max's kick-assery makes everything too easy. Haw!
In conclusion: yay show! <3
In other news, Gintama has in fact taken out a lease on my fangirl soul. I'm rather glad the Shinsengumi revolution arc cinched that, because some of the eps after it would've shaken my faith severely otherwise. Let us not speak of the Nausicaa parody. Or the arc with the alien abductions and the screwdrivers...if you have seen the show/manga, you know of what I speak. You may wish you did not; you may wish with all your heart and soul that you could unknow it, but you know.
But ahhh, that's part of its charm, that Gintama may be the single most unpredictable series I have ever seen. There is no way to guess where it's going to go, no way to imagine. Will it be stupid and highly inappropriate comedy? Will it be badass shounen drama? Will it be unexpected tragedy? Will it be so outright adorable it takes your breath away? (oh god, the Kagura umbrella story, so cute it's almost painful...!) There's no way to know! (The bro insists he cannot watch more than a few eps at a time for this reason, because he has no idea what to expect and it makes his head hurt ^^;) It gets increasingly less predictable as it goes along because the crack count is ever-rising, and so what sets out as idiotic comedy may take a dip into light romance, then swerve into a ditch of ORLY?, skid out into human drama, only to fishtail back into OMGWTFWRONG, and end up crashing headlong into sweet.
Plus it had the obligatory chain-smoking character run into trouble with anti-smoking laws, as I have never seen happen in an anime before (and LOLOLOLOL)...and then, being Gintama, it naturally devolved into an interstellar Dragon Ball Z parody, complete with the preview music. Which I of course immediately recognized. Uh-huh...
And I have totally fallen for Gintoki. Yes, of course I love the Shinsengumi (and I really adore Zura for being ABSOLUTELY NUCKING FUTS) and Shinpachi-kun and Kagura-chan, but Gin-chan is just...special. He's the most unmotivated shounen hero I've ever seen (really, I can't think of any other Jump heroes who don't have any goal whatsoever. Unless you consider quitting reading Jump, which doesn't so much count as a goal because he doesn't ever actually try to do that, he just thinks that he ought to...) But then if any of the people close to him have a dream, he'll ultimately do anything to help them reach it. ("close to him," in Gintoki's case, often enough means "are within close physical proximity of him"; he'll get attached to guys who were trying to kill him the day before if he sees something in them worth fighting for.) (The problem, fannishly speaking, with having Gintoki as my favorite is that I'm having trouble 'shipping him with anyone; the more the show goes along, the less I can see him having...sex at all, really, much less a relationship; it's just too much work! Though I'm sure I can get over that for the sake of pretty doujinshi. I can get over a lot for the sake of pretty doujinshi. XD)
(No new icons - stupid actually having to pay for a paid account! - but I do have a new layout in honor of it!)

Date: 2011-02-24 06:19 am (UTC)Oh my goodness! SO TRUE!! :'D
(Also, don't mind me; I'm just traipsing through your backlogged 'gintama' tagged entries~)
Although - now that I've finished watching all the episodes that are out - I can't help but find Gintoki's crush on Ketsuno Crystal super-endearing. The Onmyouji arc had me rooting for him - and by extension, him marrying into the Ketsuno family xD (I'll admit I found it especially heartwarming when Kagura referred to herself and Shinpachi as Gin's kids).

Date: 2011-02-24 10:06 am (UTC)Gin-san's crush on Ketsuno is adorable, but I don't see it as really going anywhere, or as anything Gin would actually want to go anywhere (marrying into that family? way, way, WAY too much work! XDXD)
Though I admit I'm biased; I've increasingly come to see Gintoki as...if not perhaps entirely asexual, then close to, and aromantic as well. ...Er, yeah, sometimes I slash chars, sometimes I ship chars, and sometimes I...anti-ship chars? and make them asexual in my fanon, whatever canon has to say about it! (It's on my mind especially now as I've been writing a little ficlet about it...)
And hee, I love when Kagura calls her and Shinpachi his kids. Though I also love it when she claims they're his parents, too. Yorozuya family FTW~!

Date: 2011-03-01 03:42 am (UTC)XDXDXDXDXDXD to both fanart and statement - I rather agree! (it's hard to argue Gin-san as entirely asexual, since he does express interest in porn and watches naked girls on occasion. But aromantic, yeah - I have a really hard time imagining Gintoki in love, or being sexually attracted to a particular person, rather than just getting turned on occasionally. And I don't think he's got much of a sex drive anyway - there's some evidence in canon that he's a virgin, and I doubt he'd ever choose sex over, say, chocolate :P)
...But self-love, including with another version of himself, yeeeeah, I can actually see that XD

Date: 2011-03-01 09:01 pm (UTC)Gintoki's still not entirely clear on how this happened--putting aside the matter of crossing alternate universes, the last time he ended up in a love hotel was enough to make him vow off the establishments until the end of history--but the mattress is soft and the satin sheets feel like liquid cream and to hell with vows or common sense or comics decency laws.
Curly silver hair tickles his belly as his double slides lower, wet lips better than the sheets against his skin. "You know, I don't usually do this," Gintoki remarks idly, tucking his hand behind his head as he looks up at the mirrored ceiling--two times two makes four identical reflections, all sexy as sin if he says so himself. "With guys, I mean."
"With guys, right," his double snorts, and Gintoki opens his mouth to protest that disbelieving sarcasm, defend his reputation as a virile shounen hero. Then he remembers who he's talking to and shuts it again. He's never been one to lie to himself, not really.
And this really isn't his usual thing, but it's not a bad way to waste an afternoon. "Yeah," Gintoki groans as his double finally gets to where he was going. He shuts his eyes and arches his back, thrusting up into that hot mouth, and then there's two minutes of solid awesome--what the hell kind of school does this guy teach at, anyway?--that ends without warning about ten seconds before he comes.
"The hell?" Gintoki complains, lifting his head to peer down there.
"My jaw's getting sore," his double says in a matching whine. "And the chocolate sauce is gone."
"So put more on."
"But the bottle's way over there." His double flops down on the bed, head on Gintoki's stomach, chin digging in when he speaks. "You do me now."
Gintoki tries to kick him in his silver-permed head but the angle's all wrong. "You can't just leave me hanging like this. That's self-abuse."
"Then what's ignoring me, huh? Don't I have needs, too?"
"I'll show you needs," Gintoki says, twisting out from under his double and flipping him over as he does to straddle him, pinning his shoulders to the mattress.
His own face gazes back up at him, indistinguishable without the glasses, red eyes heavy-lidded and mouth shiny and sticky with mostly licked-off chocolate sauce. "Yeah," his double says, lifting his hips so their groins grind together, sweaty hot friction, "that's it. You do the work."
"Why the hell should I?" Gintoki says, and drops his head to taste the last of those chocolate smears. The salt-sweat flavor of the lips underneath isn't bad, either, and his mouth doesn't taste like the ash tray Gintoki expected--he can't always be smoking lollipops, but maybe what's in those cigarettes isn't tobacco, either. It'd explain how he could get through a school day.
Same face, but his double's body is softer, padded belly and no sword hilt callouses on the hands skimming down his biceps. Maybe it's weird how that's hot, but it doesn't stop it from being hot. Hot enough to make him almost want to do something, even, take the effort for once, with someone who'd know him too well to expect a repeat performance, even if they ever did cross over again. "Aw, fuck me," Gintoki says.
"Exactly," his double says, smirking like the lazy obnoxious son of a bitch they both are, and drags him closer.
blame accepted with honor

Oh wait — yes, I do know. Earlier this week my little brother and I were watching a compilation of 4kids-censored vs. uncensored comparisons of the One Piece anime (with which I myself am not familiar), and in the 4kids-censored version, they'd turned Sanji's cigarette into a lolipop. It was so unexpected that we nearly injured ourselves laughing. OTZ
but homghnngh
I really like that you wrote Gintoki & Ginpachi-sensei with different body types. It never'd have occurred to me on my own but it works @___@
...
AHHH THAT FANART IS CURSED IT EATS MY BRAINNN *-*

That didn't hit me until I was actually writing, but, yeah, only makes sense...
Between you and that fanart, I think GinxGin is suddenly my Gintama OTP. It seriously is the only Gintoki pairing I can really see ^^;;;;;

Though
I have entertained the thought that maybe there was some one-sided Takasugi ---> Shouyou-sensei?
I mean, out of all the students, Takasugi seemed more likely. ._.
Re: blame accepted with honor
Date: 2011-03-01 09:45 pm (UTC)Ah, and I kind of love Otae/Kyuubei. Even if it makes me sorry for Kondou ^^;
Takasugi/Shouyou, hmmmm, is possible? One-sided, at least...(I tend not to go for mentor/student, but as a one-side messed-up thing it can be intriguing...)
...and I admit to reading dj for nearly any pairing, if they're pretty. Though gen's still my favorite (always my problem with anime fanning, there's never enough gen!)

......
and Kagura would be Wendy and Shinpachi would be John and
Madao would be a cockroach as usual—No maybe they do a musical instead, and it's Wizard of Oz, in which case Sadaharu would be the cutest, hugest Toto ever, and Kondou, Hijikata, and Okita would be some permutation of the lion, the tinman, and the scarecrow and...
OH BUT WHAT IF THEY DO SHAKESPEARE INSTEAD HAHAHA
The stalkers and their respective stalkees would be perfect for the lead roles in Midsummer Night's Dream —
And cliche as it is, what I wouldn't give to see Sorachi do terrible things with R&J XD —
Oh but if they did Hamlet Sakamoto and Katsura could be Rozencrantz and Guildentstern!!!
asdfghjkl;somanychoices X___x *dies happy*
Re: Class 3Z does Peter PanWHAT
Date: 2011-03-02 08:25 pm (UTC)...Though My Fair Lady wouldn't go well for Ginry Higgins, as Kagura would be Eliza and Gin-san would get his head stomped about 5 minutes into lessons ^^;;;;
Katsura and Hijikata would both throw themselves into Les Mis, though I don't think anyone else would go along...
Cinderella, of course! --have I seen a dj with this? I think I've seen a dj with everyone competing for the title role. Unless that was actually the anime? Shinpachi-rella is the obvious and Otsuu can be his prince(ss) but then who's the fairy godmother? Kondou!? (with a wand and fairy wings and...nothing else on...)
Wacky Gintama casting is always fun (last time I was working out Star Wars I had Hijikata & Okita as C-3PO and R2-D2 ^^;;;)
Re: Class 3Z does Peter PanWHAT
Date: 2011-03-02 08:31 pm (UTC)And Okita would make a simply diabolical R2-D2 >D
...Not to mention the loads of dick jokes that would come with the lightsabres. Come to think of it, I'm actually mildly astonished that Sorachi hasn't made any Star Wars references (or has he? nothing that stands out though...) Is Star Wars very popular at all in Japan?
Re: Class 3Z does Peter PanWHAT
Date: 2011-03-02 08:41 pm (UTC)SW is definitely known in Japan (and the movie episode parodied it - but I think that was filler, not manga-based) but it's not as popular as over here. And Sorachi tends not to go for that many Western references - like, Pirates of the Caribbean was huge, but I don't think that's ever turned up? Though he did the Saw parody, and the recent manga arc mentioned Prison Break in the title (though not in the story, I don't think.)
...still want to see it. Lightsaber jokes! Death Star jokes! Dressing everyone up in Leia's RotJ gold bikini!
