And the latest update isn't even fully posted (XDXDXDXD to the "panel isn't done yet" that pops up when you click on the unfinished pics now, OH, AH, YOU SPECIAL SPECIAL LUNATIC.) but I just have to say oh my god DAVE. ROSE. DAAAAAAVE. Because of course Dave is not going to keep that promise. Is TG: but i dont want you to die the most honestly unironic thing Dave has ever said? I was right about Rose being on the moon in the dream-bubbles, but what was DD doing there? And what was Rose's message to John going to be, before they were so rudely interrupted? And, erm, how many times can your dreamself be killed?? (I am so confused by dreamselves. So Dave, having been killed on the alpha-timeline, was woken by Jade's kiss as his dreamself on Derse, but then when Rose knocked him out, he woke up in the dream-bubbles - was that his dreamself waking up? Or his dead self? Or what?)

And it was Davesprite who got the sword to Dave, but with Jadesprite's help...dangit, dangit, I was really hoping Davesprite was going to gank Rose's mission. Because much as I love Davesprite (which is so, so much) he's doomed anyway, and Rose isn't, or shouldn't be, whatever she might believe herself...but it sounds like Davesprite's going down now for good, and Rose is still on the moon, and Dave is on the way and AAAAARGH NEED MORE NOW.

shayera coined the perfect word to describe the reading of Homestuck updates: squimper, to simultaneously squee and whimper so loudly that one scares one's cats. SQUIMPER.

Lots of squimpering today. Aaargh!!

Rose doesn't want to be alone and Dave doesn't want her to die (and that line...! You know it's bad when Dave is reduced to unironic honesty!) and this whole situation sucks so much.

I'm assuming the self that goes into the dream bubbles is literally just a dreamed up projection. Like in a real dream? So it's not a separate self, and if Dave goes to sleep again he could get to a dream bubble again - not that he has any time to do that.

I kinda sorta think that Dave would have kept that promise. I mean, he chose to stay in the dream and keep Rose company instead. But then a stab-happy douche dag shows up, and he really can't leave Rose with him, can he? *squimper*

I was sort of holding out for Davesprite myself, but that would have been too easy, wouldn't it? Right now, I'm pretty sure Davesprite doesn't even know of these suicide plans. If he did, he might look at it a bit differently.

I'm also thinking... the Denizen said he could have repaired anything, and Davesprite chose the sword. As opposed to, say, himself? Not sure if it would have worked that way, but the thought struck me.

And the sword got broken anyway when Dave got it. So is it a better broken sword now?

We might now get the rest of the panels for this page until next update. I think AH was being nice and not having us wait until it was all done.

Yeah, I just was thinking that maybe this update isn't coming all at once - which is nice to not have to wait for tooooo long but still, need more! Come on, AH, just because you're the fastest webcomic artist in the world doesn't mean you're FAST ENOUGH!!!

Hmmm, interesting thought, about Davesprite being able to chose himself getting fixed. And what is the deal with the denizens otherwise?? What is The Choice (well, it's different every time, but what was it for him last time and what will it be now and ahhh anytime one question gets answered in HS it invariably raises two more! It's like a hydra of mysterious plot threads!)

Yeah, Dave might've kept his promise...or he might've just thought sticking around might give him a chance to talk Rose out of it. Not even sure if Dave knows. But either way he's coming now...though Rose said the horrorterrors were opening the way for her, so if he gets caught in the dreambubbles...?

(I'm still holding out hope for a last minute Aradia-save, but...)

(huh, if Davesprite did go into the dreambubbles after them, then he could meet dead!John from his timeline who's talking to Vriska? Ow my head, so chronologically confusing! ^^;;;)

This isn't the first time The Choice has been mentioned! One of the salamanders John talked to right before he got god tiered said something about it... *checks*

SALAMANDER: It’s said the Heir will wake the denizen by playing a magical song only he can play, and when he wakes up, the Heir will meet the terrible beast face to face!
SALAMANDER: It is then that he will be offered The Choice. The nature of the Heir’s triumph depends on what he chooses!

Which doesn't actually tell us anything, but it's been up there for a while.

Now I wonder what Choice the dead John was offered, or if he failed to listen to it like (pre-sprite) Dave did...

If Dave does reach Rose, and doesn't get lost in the dream bubbles, then it sort of amounts to both of them going on this mission after all. Especially if he catches up and finds DD has already killed Rose (which would be beyond horrible :((

Aradia is out there! There must be something she can do...

Agh I definitely have to reread it! Obvs. this is VERY IMPORTANT!!

...ahhh, that's a good question about dead John. Is it possible he actually took the right Choice but then died anyway, being on a doomed timeline?? or that he actually chose to die? Maybe this will come out in his next conversation with Vriska...

DD can't kill Rose...I mean, partly just because I don't want that to happen, but also Rose is pretty dang powerful - she's got her yarnball, after all! - and DD is no Jack...

Rose has her yarn ball, but I don't think she has her wands or anything (Dream Selves don't seem to be able to keep the original's equipment). And Dave was stabbitied, which makes me worried...

On the other hand, Dave does seem to have a habit of getting killed because he's dumbfounded for a moment when an unexpected enemy shows up. Hm. And Rose seemed to be ready to STRIFE.

John must have been screwed in any case, because he faced the Denizen way too early, and obviously failed to run away like Dave did. Perhaps the choice for a low-level player is simply DIE or ABSCOND? Although it's probably not that simple. I'm hoping we'll get something on that in the next update, too!

Squimper pretty much sums it up. This is my first update since I caught all the way up, and I'm pretty sure the waiting from now on (even as relatively fast as it is) is going to kill me.

Dave and Rose just about broke my heart, with the fighting over the suicide mission, and Dave's unironic "i dont want you to die", and then Rose admitting to just wanting company, and Dave's "no hurry to wake up" after that... And oh no stabbity! Dead Daves are the enemy! Poor Rose all alone, except I hope she flays the hell out of DD. (Before Dave gets there and gets himself killed for reals, and before the whole mission gets completed.)

Davesprite and Jadesprite are pretty adorable, and I'm glad Jadesprite is managing to be useful again.

For dreamselves: I'm pretty sure the dreambubbles don't require dreamselves, because that's where they go after the dreamself is dead. Or maybe it's like the dreamself afterlife. But yeah, I have no idea what that means in terms of dreambubble-Dave being killed, and what that means for future dreaming.

The updates are coming slooooowly (relatively speaking) but then we get a bunch, so...actually I don't know if that's better or worse, but it's definitely interesting to be reading it as it comes out, no? Just try not to die from the stress!

Rose & Dave are just tugging on all my friendship/sibling heartstrings (and you know I got a lot of those!) but I just hope they come through it. Somehow. All the trolls going down is painful enough, but Rose and Dave have been there from the start, we can't lose them! *wibble* *squimper*

And yeah...I figured Jadesprite would come around; after all, she did go out in a blaze of self-sacrificial glory the first time, that's still in her! But it sounds like Davesprite is going to be checking out soon...awww, no, Davesprite! (even though I actually thought he was already dead, until now...)(geeze, the number of chars in this thing who I care about and don't want bad things to happen to is ridiculous! Especially when some of them are actually alternate versions of other chars! Oh, Homestuck, you are a special experience...)

Actually I find it amazing that I'm so invested in this thing even though there's so much I don't understand. Comes from reading the whole archive in a few days during the night, I guess. But it's just so good and hits so many of my buttons, wow. And it's so pretty!

Also the characters. Must not start listing everything I love about Homestuck, that would take some time, but Rose and Dave - ♥

Very curious what you think about the latest update...

*laughs* yeah, right now my lj appears to be stuck on the Homestuck Squimper Channel (with bonus squailing) And the characters, yes - when I started it I had no idea I would come to care about these wacky kids so much. Right now I love ALL THE CHARACTERS. ALL OF THEM. (Even the ones who scare me.)

I have no idea about the latest updates!! Dying to know what went down with alt-timeline John and his denizen, and now fedorafreak is dying on a quest bed?! Who is that? He's the only person we know of on the kids' Earth who isn't either a celebrity or part of their paradox bloodlines...or is he? (gotta love that just when HS starts answering questions, it ships in a whole boatload of new ones...!)

I just wanted to say, about today's update, HOW DID FEDORAFREAK END UP IN THE KID'S SESSION?? I mean. The kids and their Guardians only ended up there because they were in their houses when the entrance item was activated. So unless he was in the same house (or apartment, in Dave's case) as one of the kids...?

Wait, now that I think about it, it probably makes more sense that he's in a completely different session, played by someone else. Like, his kid was a player, but didn't make it? Dimensional borders are nothing to a good electronic messaging device, after all.

Random dying on a Quest Bed is O___O in either case.

Also, Nanna's last words there... HUH.

(I am also so, so glad that Nanna never tried to make good of the prophesy and go marry her brother. :P)

The bro also hypothesized that fedorafreak came from another session - possibly even the kids' session, post-scratch? there's no guarantee they'd be the ones in the game, after all...(That or he's a squiddle! :P)

And YES, if the batterwitch wasn't human...what was she?!!? Also...does this mean that, other than possibly fedorafreak (and various celebrities) that every human we know about from the kids' Earth was part of their paradox bloodlines? Because I've been wondering for a while if they were actually the only people in their world, somehow...

It's canon that other people on the kid's Earth played Sburb before our kids got around to it. They got it a few days after it was released, after all. Seems most of them never actually made it into the Medium, though, according to the short walkthroughs Rose found. But some might?

...it is true that we haven't actually seen anyone who wasn't part of the kids' paradox families in person. No, wait, we saw Colonel Sassacre - he was shot by Baby Grandpa! (Though he sort of falls in between being part of the family and being a celebrity). Still. How would that even work? 0_0

My first though at the "not human" part was, naturally, TROLL. Dunno how that would work either. Probably involving paradoxes. (Does anything not involve paradoxes?)
