...In Mass Effect. (You weren't getting away that easily, sorry! :P) I do love voice acting, and this vid is a great example - it's a clip of Garrus's VA as a bit role on Castle, and it's awesome because he doesn't sound like Garrus at all...until the one minute mark when his voice drops and then he's instantly recognizable. Which everyone freaks out about in the comments, when they're not discussing Garrus chatting with Mal Reynolds... (I gotta say, I'm used to youtube comments being the bottom of the internet barrel, but for some reason a lot of the comments on ME-related clips are gold.)

On the subject of voice acting: did you notice that Mordin was voiced by two different actors in ME2 and ME3? I was rather shocked when I found out.:)

Yep. The second guy did an admirable job - I would have never guessed someone else was voicing Mordin. Apparently no one knows why the first actor was replaced.

I saw the double credits for Mordin on IMDB, was meaning to look this up! Actually when Mordin is first introduced in ME3 I remember having a moment of 'is that what he really sounds like?' but it passed quickly - the new VA and the sound guys did a great job making it work, which as someone who freaks whenever cartoon voices change, I really appreciated! (I'm bad with faces, I recognize a lot of actors better by their voices, which is probably why I'm so into VAs!)

Haha I remember watching that video! And also being like, wow, this guy doesn't normally sound like Garrus at all... and then BOOM he's Garrus instantly lol. <3

Honestly though, Jennifer Hale is like, my VA queen. I LOVE her. And mostly it's not until I look it up that I realise it's her. I only just found out the other day that she's the VA for Avatar Kyoshi in A:TLA- that one blew my mind :)

I found this out only a couple of months ago too (which was when I watched ATLA for the first time!). It's nice hearing familiar voices where you least expect it! JHale also voiced a primary character in the game that inspired my very first fannish obsession (Bastila in "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic"), so she's partly responsible for getting me into online fandom, too!

Yeah, the sudden Garrus transformation cracked me up! (as did this vid with his performance in another role dubbed over Garrus and it fits so well.) Also amused me because it was hard to tell how much of Garrus's distinctiveness was due to that flanging effect on all turian voices - but nope, it's mostly the VA. (I love Garrus's voice, that cocky drawl, mm!)

Ahhh am tempted to go rewatch an ep with Kiyoshi now!

Trust me, you're not the only one who loves Garrus' drawl- a couple of girls I know on tumblr are slightly obsessed with his voice haha. Any time he says Archangel. Or when he's flirting in the bar in the Citadel DLC <3 Yep. he has a sexy voice. I'm okay with this :P

(And I did exactly that- went back and watched Avatar Day as it was the first ep with Kyoshi I could think of!)

Okay I think I've listed probably way too many, haha sorry! There are obviously a lot more fans on tumblr, and there are more ME specific blogs. The fandom on there is USUALLY pretty chill (unlike say, the Dragon Age fandom :/). There are maybe a couple of people who don't like to play nice as with every fandom, but they are pretty rare and for the most part the fandom are all a nice bunch. Obviously as it's tumblr there's more graphics and fanart rather than long discussions, but the tags are often a great place to see the extent of people's love of Mass Effect (and there's usually a good chunk of Garrus flailing too!)

Wow, thank you so much - or maybe I should be cursing you, so much I should be doing, but...tumblring! And the fandom does seem fun - it's one of the joys of a fandom with a closed canon, they tend to be more relaxed, in my experience (closed-ish anyway, I wonder what ME4's release will do...)
