Off to AnimeBoston tomorrow, along with [livejournal.com profile] gnine, [livejournal.com profile] ainbthen, and various and sundry others. Anyone else gonna be there? Not gonna be cosplaying, have no particular plans but wandering around and buying lots and lots of manga. Hoping to grab the Japanese v.4-8 of Sono Te wo Dokeru (aka "Hands Off"), because waiting months for the next English volume? Not so much.

Speaking of waiting, is it September yet?

...how about now?

And in the blast from the past department. Yes, Disney's an evil corporation; yes, about the only good thing they've done lately is backing Pixar, and that's ending, etc, etc. But dammit, DuckTales was my first favorite TV show and always will be. Why they haven't put it out on DVD baffles me. Apparently no one's yet figured out how to cash in on the twenty-something nostalgia market. Watching it now, I might as well be ten years old again; I can remember how much I enjoyed everything, recall how such silly and simple jokes made me laugh so hard. Though truthfully, the things I loved most then are the same things I love most now, friendship and family love and loyalty. The show spoiled me horribly for most of my fandoms to come; there's so many hugs!

I will! Not sure what costumes [livejournal.com profile] mullenkamp and I will be in on what days; we've got Emishi and Amon, Masaki and Teshimine, Tsuzuki and Hisoka from Yami no Matsuei, and she's just finished Sydney from Vagrant Story and I'll probably be Inui from Prince of Tennis when she's wearing that. XD

(Where are you, anyhow? I'm in Worcester MA.)

Also, what's the English title for Sono Te we Dokeru?

I'm actually in Ithaca, New York presently, but I grew up in Mass, about an hour northwest of Boston on the NH border, so am going back to visit family and con. Mostly con ^^ will look for you there - am guessing there won't be too many other Amons or Masakis!

oops, Sono Te is "Hands Off". Wicked cute manga.

Probably not, no. Or Teshimines, I'd guess. Emishis are reasonably common. (Sydney Losstarot is also very recognizble -- resembles Ed from FMA but with shorter hair, no red coat, and both arms are metal.)

Hm, I wish I could remember more about Sono Te except that I had meant to look into it once upon a time. Shall make a note of that. ^_^

DuckTales!!! I had that two hour special (movie?) with the big golden pirate ship and the chocolate factory recorded onto video from TV and I watched it SO MUCH as a kid that I think I memorized the commercials. ^^;; Much love for that show.

And unlike many anime fans, I don't hate Disney. I recognized the mutual influences and trading of ideas that has gone on between Disney and Japanese animation companies, and while I'm sad at the direction Disney has taken in recent years (what ever happened to the musicals??), I still remember them fondly from my childhood years. ^_^

they're bringing pete and pete out on DVD. I didn't have Disney as a child, so I was all on the Nickleoden side. You know, when it was still good.

Now just for Salute Your Shorts...

Duck Tales! I used to rush home every day from school to watch that show! I really wish they would release that (and all the other old shows like Rescue Rangers) on DVD cuz I would totally buy 'em!

Didja ever play the NES Duck Tales game? I loved it! XD

Well, considering the unbelievably low price, and that I haven't been able to find it on any major retailer like Amazon, I'm pretty positive that's a bootleg edition...I have it unofficially already, I just have a hankering for pretty official shiny discs ^^;

heh, I didn't have Nickelodeon or Disney channel as a kid, just the broadcast channels, so Warner Bros and Disney afternoon were my major 'toon fixes.

I'm hoping they'll see fit to bring 'em all out on DVD sooner or later...well, my wallet probably wishes otherwise, but...(dammit, tho', if they don't gimme 2nd season Gargoyles I am gonna be Most Displeased...)

I don't think we had the NES DT game...ahh, now I'm having NES flashbacks. The first FF and Battletoads, oh yeah... ^__^

Where is Acen? tho' really I'm not that big a con-goer, wouldn't be going to this one were it not for various friends & family (I'm shy! ...and lazy. mostly lazy ^^;;;)

DuckTales kicked so much cartoon ass! XD

Ahh, that was the premiere ep, with the end at the big temple of gold? I don't know if I saw it when it first aired, but they would play it as multi-part episodes, 5 days - a week of continuity was a lot for a cartoon back then ^^ We didn't even have a VCR to record it, but I watched it enough in reruns to memorize most of it! ...and still have enough memorized that it worries me a bit, watching it again, the amount of lines I can quote along with the chars ^^;

The problem with Disney and anime fans is that a lot of anime fen don't realize that influence, or understand that while Disney is all about the children now, originally it wasn't especially meant for kids. Cartoons were once enjoyed by all ages, and the early Disney movies and Warner Bros cartoons weren't intended as sterilized kids' fare; just entertainment in general was tamer back then. Anime as we know it probably wouldn't exist now if Snow White hadn't been made and transformed cartoons from shorts to features. Though I do wish Disney was in better hands now than Eisner's. Another Beauty & the Beast would be wonderful to see.

I'm playing the gameboy advance remake of the first FF game right now! It's so nostalgic! I actually played through FF with my grandma! She was kickass at NES games! XD

And yes, Battletoads was a great game! ^_^

But it's the weekend of the 20th, so about... three weeks from now.

Hey was hoping to hear about AnimeBoston. Do share! And my little roomie was working on another "forgotten fanfic" cartoon and I think I spotted Zorro in it this time.

ah, you got an account - welcome to lj! ^__^

Hee, yes, best shows! Darkwing Duck was my 2nd fave, but DT remains on the top, just because it was one of my earliest fandoms ever...

AnimeBoston was fun, I'm trying not to think about how much I actually spent on manga there (I've gotten my credit card bill, but I haven't opened it yet... ^^;;;) and...and...I swear the fics aren't forgotten...I just haven't been writing much lately. Been quite busy, but I should have a goodly amount of free time this summer, and I hope to get things done! (trust me, you're not alone in waiting. all I can do is beg for your patient mercy...!)
