Off to AnimeBoston tomorrow, along with [livejournal.com profile] gnine, [livejournal.com profile] ainbthen, and various and sundry others. Anyone else gonna be there? Not gonna be cosplaying, have no particular plans but wandering around and buying lots and lots of manga. Hoping to grab the Japanese v.4-8 of Sono Te wo Dokeru (aka "Hands Off"), because waiting months for the next English volume? Not so much.

Speaking of waiting, is it September yet?

...how about now?

And in the blast from the past department. Yes, Disney's an evil corporation; yes, about the only good thing they've done lately is backing Pixar, and that's ending, etc, etc. But dammit, DuckTales was my first favorite TV show and always will be. Why they haven't put it out on DVD baffles me. Apparently no one's yet figured out how to cash in on the twenty-something nostalgia market. Watching it now, I might as well be ten years old again; I can remember how much I enjoyed everything, recall how such silly and simple jokes made me laugh so hard. Though truthfully, the things I loved most then are the same things I love most now, friendship and family love and loyalty. The show spoiled me horribly for most of my fandoms to come; there's so many hugs!

DuckTales!!! I had that two hour special (movie?) with the big golden pirate ship and the chocolate factory recorded onto video from TV and I watched it SO MUCH as a kid that I think I memorized the commercials. ^^;; Much love for that show.

And unlike many anime fans, I don't hate Disney. I recognized the mutual influences and trading of ideas that has gone on between Disney and Japanese animation companies, and while I'm sad at the direction Disney has taken in recent years (what ever happened to the musicals??), I still remember them fondly from my childhood years. ^_^

Ahh, that was the premiere ep, with the end at the big temple of gold? I don't know if I saw it when it first aired, but they would play it as multi-part episodes, 5 days - a week of continuity was a lot for a cartoon back then ^^ We didn't even have a VCR to record it, but I watched it enough in reruns to memorize most of it! ...and still have enough memorized that it worries me a bit, watching it again, the amount of lines I can quote along with the chars ^^;

The problem with Disney and anime fans is that a lot of anime fen don't realize that influence, or understand that while Disney is all about the children now, originally it wasn't especially meant for kids. Cartoons were once enjoyed by all ages, and the early Disney movies and Warner Bros cartoons weren't intended as sterilized kids' fare; just entertainment in general was tamer back then. Anime as we know it probably wouldn't exist now if Snow White hadn't been made and transformed cartoons from shorts to features. Though I do wish Disney was in better hands now than Eisner's. Another Beauty & the Beast would be wonderful to see.
