xparrotOne Piece 379-388 - a whole volume's worth to read! Whee! And this post is pure real-time reaction, completely miscellaneous blathering as I go. Mostly squees and guffaws. I laughed out loud so hard reading this. And cheered almost as much. And generally just loved. Big surprise there.
I love the "Summertime" spread. (Ah, hell, I love all of Oda's color work. When's ColorWalk 3 coming out?) Is Usopp fishing for Sanji with pictures of Nami??
Is numerically ranking CP9's fighting strength (via beating on the zipper-dude) a DBZ homage, or is it just me?

And Sanji and Zoro bring the cool! And the snark! "That's still better than being Nameless Pirate 'A.'" BWAHA. Sanji is so not going to get a bounty at the end of this. I just know it, all the rest of the crew will, and he'll be forgotten, and Zoro will never ever let him forget it.
Nami-swaa~~~n, you are so amazing. And hot. And almost electrocuting yourself with your own lightning. And your nakama. "Nami-san, you reminded me of how it felt when we first met!" *dies*
...Paulie is still hot. Yeah, his chances aren't great. Yeah, I don't know why, but I still want him (and I still don't see the Franky Family letting Franky go! Though they did just let themselves all be called Mugiwara pirates...) There's still chemistry in his, "tell them this for me: 'You're fired!'"
Waaaaah, Robin...I love her so, so, so much. The way she can be so calm even when being beaten, but threaten Luffy-tachi, and she completely loses it...wow. So, so much.
Luffy's never going to lose his "sparkle over his enemy's super-cool tricks" thing, is he? But the fight = pure WHAMMO.
And Nami's concern for Usopp, and Zoro's absolute confidence in him. <333
And Elbaf!! OMG the giants are their crew!!! They have a tragic backstory! Oda-sensei, marry me~~!!! (yes, I know, he's taken already. Oda-sensei, become a Mormon and marry me too~~!!)
OW. I went "ow" aloud when the SeaHorse was brought down by those giant metal balls. The amount of crazy baddies in this arc is insane. Love the overhead city shots - I've said it before, but One Piece has this fantastic sense of scale. Oda likes big things - not just in the scope of the story, but physically enormous people and creatures and ships and everything. The bird's eye view of Gomorrah fallen on the streets of Enies Lobby is just great.
Re: the cover pics sidestory - um. I just...um...had a brief brief thought that Bon Clay looked almost sort of. Hot. Excuse me I need to go bleach my brain (but the suit's a good look for him!) (And I wanna see 'em save Miss Valentine. Secret confession, I have always had a fondness for Mr.5 x Miss Valentine. I dunno, they're just such, um, partners. So, yeah. Aww~!)
Ahah!! Answers to what happens if you eat more than one devil fruit, finally!! Death, eh? So a reindeer-fruit wouldn't get Chopper back to normal (is there a way to reverse the powers?)
DEAR LUCCHI, STOP LOOKING SO HOT, PLZKTHX. (oh man I need to catch up with the anime just to hear Seki-sama doing a sexy leopard voice...)
You can do that with a door power too? The spinny head trick? Damn. The creative uses of devil fruit abilities never cease to astound me.
And Zoro sees Luffy's fight! And asks Sanji about it! And...
...and now I'm all sad about a giant seahorse. And daaaaamn the spread of Sanji and Zoro on the march. Yeah. Nothing quite kicks ass the way One Piece kicks ass. The sheer destructive chaos of this assault--maybe I've been reading the wrong shounen, I've never quite seen anything like it. It's a siege, practically a war story - there's the one-on-one challenges that are expected of fight shounen, but it's all taking place within a no-holds-barred battle of 10,000 against--quite a lot fewer, but they've got the big guns on their side. The really big guns. (Even if Sanji and Zoro will keep fighting in the middle of it...)
ONE PIECE JOUSTING!!! <333 (With paintball lances, no less. Because nakama wouldn't be using real ones! Especially not with Chopper right there. I want a poster of this one SO BAD.)

...Gear Second just hit every cool-shounen-move button I have. Except following standard rules about such super-powers, they'd take a pretty strong toll on the user. Luffy....

And why isn't the next chapter out yet? Waaah! Though...need a breather really, after all that...but when is the next gonna be scanlated?

But!! The chapters! The giant fish getting killed almost made me cry too, DAMN YOU ODACCHI. I love you plz marry me. XD Zoro's faith in Usopp almost KILLED me with my huge love of the nakama and what it means for the crew, and the same thing with Robin, and her reactions to everything. Oh, oh, Robin. LOVE.
Rucchi. With the hot. Yes. Didn't I tell you? I remember almost jumping in my chair when I turned the page there, because - wow. Wow. WOW. YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS HOT, RUCCHI, PLEASE STOP. It's DISTRACTING. To say the least. (Though not as distracting as Bon Clay. OMGWTF?! That... still kills me. Me and Shayera where making funny noises today, thinking about it. Mr 2. Hot. WTF?!?! Odacchi, the crack you're on - please give me some?)
And now, new devil fruit powers! New to us, new to the users - it's going to be soooooooo interesting to see how that develops! Just... ah! Must see! So curious! First time that's happened... that we get to see an actual capable adult get powers, and use them for the first time, and it's a big huge surprise to everyone.

Date: 2005-11-16 03:01 pm (UTC)I just loved that little bit with Usopp being gone, because they were like, 'did he run away?' but it wasn't that they were angry with him being a coward at all, Nami was just afraid he might get hurt (again. moreso. he was just trashed by Franky yesterday, wasn't it?) but Zoro knows he'll manage and meanwhile he's really hiding in the giant's hair and as soon as he got wet, I was like, "OMG, that's gotta be tears, the giant's *crying*, I bet they're gonna make friends!" and sure enough...that was just gorgeous, that Elbaf came back, after like, what, 200 chapters?? that it's helping Usopp help save the day, so perfect, because Elbaf always was Usopp's thing more than all the others, the land of the courageous warriors...he really will have to go there someday...be made an honorary giant!!
And yes you sent me one of the Lucchi smex pics but I totally forgot about it, so turned page and yeah, was just - eeeep. With the whiskey and all...yow. Then the bit he says he's out for blood, turning half-leopard,...yow, so eeeevil. He enjoys his work a little too much! But still. Mmm.
And the Bon Clay thing!!!! There are no words. *dies*

And I can't BELIEVE the giants came back!! After - it's a LOT of chapters. It's almost 200 anime episodes. ^^;; It's awesome and fantastic and how does he DO that, Oda-sensei? How does that brain of his work? Really? I want to know, because it's not normal in any way. But, oh, so good...
Rucchi doing the "HI I'M HOT"... yeah. With his hair up. And his shirt unbuttoned. And the smirk... mmmm. Realy. No words. Except GUH. Hot. Yes. Very. And he's EVIL. In the best of ways. I'm kind of hoping he gets defeated, but not killed, because him I could see taking something like a defeat personally... and that could be *fun*. (Who's evil? Me? Never!)
