So I get up this morning, go to my car, and my key sticks in the lock, took three tries to get it open. Which happens on occasion, but it's annoying. The snow on the windows (there's always a new inch, every morning) was feather-light, easily brushed off, but the engine took a few seconds to catch - and my car's not that old, has fuel injectors, cold mornings don't really bother it. And once started, it made some truly horrible noises pulling out of the driveway; I thought either I had the emergency brake on (but it was off), or my Toyota was trying to communicate with whales, like that probe in Star Trek IV.

My tape deck got in on the act, woodging up and down through my J-pop like a drunk orchestra, so I stopped it, tried to figure out if it was the tape or the deck that was the issue. And then I went by the mall clock. -7 degrees (-22 C).

Ah. I see. Yeesh.

Walking to work (the closest parking is half a mile away), I felt something on my eyelashes - reached up and they were laced with ice crystals.

You know, much as I like to write stories about hypothermia, it's less enjoyable to live them... I feel like writing a beach fic. Or a desert story. Something warm...!

ahh, much sympathy about your car.
and you're probably right about the power steering, my parents' minivan used to make similar noises for that reason. My Kazuya-kun seemed okay once he was on the road, so hopefully...

XD Your car is named Kazuya?
I have a boy staying over the wintre break with us, and his name is Kazuya. (Although I bet you named her after the mangaka?)

::pats Ziggy:: My car just got back from the shop. My water pump AND my power steering had gone out. Silly car.

Yeah, you might also want to check the fluid for steering, just in case that's low. It might help with any difficulties in turning the wheel.

actually not named after Minekura - I wasn't into Saiyuki yet ^^ It's a Toyota, so I figured a Japanese name would fit, and I was going to call him Kazusha, "first car", but my Japanese friend advised me that that was awfully close to "kuzusha" - "junk car". So I went with Kazuya, 一矢, "first arrow"...

he's my cute little boy car, who just got an oil change and a car wash today ^_^ (almost lost him in an accident this summer, and the bodyshop guy kept calling him a "she"...I didn't know how to correct him ^^;;;)

Oh! Well, how cool is that?

Awww, I got into an accident once, and my car was totaled. x.x But we paid to fix it...I just can't get anything if I ever crash it again.

Hm, I guess 'she' only because that's traditionally what vehicles are, hm?
