SGA's "Trio" - [livejournal.com profile] gnine & I watched it, and then rewatched the whole ep. It was that much fun. [livejournal.com profile] naye and [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper have covered the salient points, so just a few more thoughts in passing:

It occurs to me that with Carter out of commission, Sheppard will probably have to go do those negotiations after all. It's okay, John, just bring the lollipop along. The leaders will be so distracted by your mouth that they'll agree to anything you say.

I like Gero's Keller more than Binder's. She's still neurotic but she does what she needs to do. Also, funny. Her "Aw, if you hadn't stopped him he would've kept going forever!" cracked me up. And she and Carter both have excellent taste. Paul Newman all the way.

Carter is <3. I love that's she's so brave and physical and daring that it can be a bit dangerous. She's still not quite adjusted to not being on an SG team. Adored when she and Rodney were opening the Door of Red-Means-Bad and Keller was understandably cautious, and Sam and Rodney just shrugged and kept going, because, yeah, you're on an SG team, you get used to charging blindly into unreasonable danger, that's just what you do.

(Speaking of being on SG teams, concerning the teaser conversation about McKay's physical condition or lack thereof - I wonder if Keller's been seeing him in worse shape than usual. This last year he's been in the lab a lot rewriting nanite code and whatnot, and now the team's more on downtime due to Teyla's condition...wouldn't be surprised if Rodney was in better shape a year or two ago, when he really was doing long-distance hikes pretty regularly, if not by choice.)

And then Rodney falls down a hole, and no one falls down quite like David Hewlett.

No one makes whimpers of pain like David Hewlett, either. Oh man. The end. With his poor, poor hands...Roooodneeeeey~! Torn between wincing with him, because, ouch, and, um, having the h/c fangirl reaction something fierce, because, yeah, wow, the man could totally be a VA.

Rodney was in perfect form the entire ep, from whining and opting out of knot-tying to displaying his excellent women skills (he was born with his foot in his mouth, poor dear; he's lucky those ladies are so fond of him) to being all heroically "leave no one behind" determined (and how much did I love that he saves Keller, gets Sam down, and doesn't freeze up until it's his own life on the line. And then at the end he has his standard "whahuh?" reaction to being thanked for being a hero, which is always much in the way of awwww.)

Also Keller totally was just being a good friend, asking him out to buck him up, give him confidence to get back in the game. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

In conclusion: JON STEWART !!!

Then there was Supernatural, "Dream a Little Dream of Me", which I liked better than most of their recent efforts, though...

...I couldn't help but think SGA did it better. I mean, yes, nightmare doppelganger invading your psyche and speaking to your deepest insecurites, old as the hills, but still. "You brought this on them, and there is NOTHING you can do to stop it!" and "I'm not dead!" vs emo!Dean...eh. (I'm also kinda glad, again, that I'm not in this fandom, because it sounds like most of it's gone a bit nuts over this ep. People took what Dean/dupli-demon-Dean said there seriously? That John loved Sam more? Didn't we already go through this? Who did Papa Winchester die to save, again? I don't think Dean really blames his father for everything, but he does have reason to be angry, and open rage, while not healthy in the long-term, is a step towards the awareness he really needs to keep it together and keep going. Self-sacrifice can be noble, but when it stems from self-hatred, that's such a hard thing for your loved ones to bear. Poor Sam.)

Eh, whatever. I haven't been enjoying this season of SPN nearly as much. They shot their wad with the last season finale, once Dean had proved his brother-love by offering his soul...there's nowhere to go after that! The show's gotten so dark and hopeless it's becoming as depressing as BSG to watch (and without the epicness of plot to be worth it otherwise.) It's also gotten gorier than I can handle (I spent about a quarter of the previous episode covering my eyes, yes, I'm a wuss) and then there's the blatant misogyny, which, yeah, part and parcel of the genre, and isn't something I'm overly sensitive to, but...well, Dean didn't semi-eroticizedly stab any women this ep, that's always something.

Bobby did, though, at least in the past, which is...I love Bobby, but wtf, show, can't you come up with any other reason for someone to get into hunting then the gruesome death of a female relative? How about an uncle? Or a favorite elementary school teacher? Or, I don't know, a brother, since that's a major theme of the whole dang show? Sigh.

Oh well. I can't really bring myself to care that much, because Dean is still pretty, and besides, SGA makes up for any other shows. SGA, and also, almost unexpectedly...

Torchwood has really been rocking the casbah! Good show, show, keep it up! The premiere is still my favorite of the season, but I've enjoyed all the eps, and the latest (2x04) made me happy, because...

Gwen put her foot down and didn't give Rhys the pill! You go, girl! First time I've really been behind her. Earlier in the ep, when Rhys wasn't telling her - usually (especially after SV) no matter who in a relationship is lying, I'm always screaming 'Tell them the truth!' but in this case I was all, you stick it to her, Rhys, and good. Only Rhys doesn't for long, because he's nicer than Gwen deserves. And I have no faith that they'll really work it out, but still, awww, here's hoping.

Speaking of relationships that won't work out, can I get a deafening squee~ for Jack/Ianto? Man, the kiss in 2x03 was so gorgeous and sweet and lovely and I could do with more of that. Yes, please, right there. Loving Ianto this season, as much as he bored me s1.

And Owen, heeeee, my Owen affection is finally justified, what with him being all doctorly and such (I always thought that Owen seemed like a doctor who once had too much compassion, and then was somehow so completely broken that he became the utter asshole we know and mostly-hate-except-for-me-and-Tosh. He seems like that more than ever, now. Also he's hot like burning in that leather jacket, which doesn't hurt.)

Poor Tosh, by the way. She deserves better than Owen, really (doesn't stop me from shipping them, but this is me). If Martha hasn't hooked up with someone else, totally rooting for her to come in and teach Tosh how to move on. In the sexiest of ways. Oh yeah baby. (I'd say I'm gay for Martha Jones, but that's kind of redundant, I mean, who isn't?)
