SGA fic: Kuro to Ao
May. 31st, 2008 08:15 pmA response to
sga_flashfic's Fairy Tale challenge. When I said I wanted to rework a Japanese fairy tale,
gnine immediately suggested "Naita Aka Oni" (The Red Ogre Who Cried). Which isn't a traditional folktale, but a Japanese children's story. It's a short, touching, sad story of friendship and farewells (it almost made me cry, when I read it in beginning Japanese class). The fic, on the other hand, is rather longer and sillier.
There are various Japanese folklore and cultural references throughout the fic, but all you should really need to know to understand the story is that oni are Japanese ogres, big, horned, hulking creatures who wield iron clubs and eat people on occasion. Well, most oni. These two are a little different...
SGA: Kuro to Ao (Black and Blue) {~8,400 words}
PG, AU, John/Rodney-ish
A tale of two unlikely friends. (And even more unlikely oni.)
And don't miss
