I might just forgive Joss Whedon for Serenity.

Well, maybe I wouldn't go that far. But still. Loved it!

"The hammer is my penis."

Melodramatic black comedy for the win!

The final supervillains: Professor Normal! Fake Thomas Jefferson! (Did anyone really not get that Bad Horse was a horse? Wasn't it obvious?)

Soundtrack!

While I'm at it, to whom do I submit the reimbursement for this giant crush I have instantly developed on Neil Patrick Harris? (He can sing! it's not fair! I have zero resistance to musical singers!) Listen to him do Les Mis with his buddy, I dare you not to fall for him.

Yeah, sadly I've had a crush on him since Doogie Howser. I know that somewhat dates me...but eh. He's so awesome.

Hee - I just remember Doogie Howser looking exactly like one of my brother's friends. Same curly hair and all...

He didn't sing as Doogie, though!

No. No he didn't. That's why Dr Horrible is better.

Also, OZone FTW

*sings*

He rides across the nation
The thoroughbred of sin
He got the application
You just sent in

Bad Horse
He’s Bad!

XD

Of course he's a horse. *g*

(Dammit. Catchy music! If Joss ever writes a full-length musical... it could be interesting. Of course, someone will get impaled by a sharp object through the chest, but I'm kind of getting used to that now.)

A horse is a horse, of course of course, unless it's Bad Horse!

(I'd have loved this to have been full-length, really. And frankly most musicals are improved by impalement, this is why Whedon's so suited to them! ...eheh. Maybe it's just that most of my favorite musicals are tragedies?)

ETA: You know, that's really it - I mean, Into the Woods is one of my favorite musicals, and that starts out cheerful and funny and cutesy and becomes DARK - there's a lot of people dead by the end. So I'm used to musicals going tragic?

But that's RENT! That's one of the NOT tragic ones! (I'd probably still like RENT if she'd died originally - but she doesn't and that's the point! XD)

Which ones are tragic? Is Phantom tragic? Is Les Miz? Because I think I might be - uh. Not so attuned to the tragedy as I should be? Or maybe it's just that I really haven't watched as many musicals as I should have. Don't know Into The Woods, for example. (Or, I know OF it, but I've never seen/heard it.)

Oh, Sweden. WHY? XD (Sweden + Joss = OTP!!)

Phantom's pretty tragic (Eric dies of a broken heart), Les Mis is tragic (the main young couple lives, everyone else dead as a doornail), Miss Saigon's tragic, West Side Story's tragic, Evita's not really happy (the female lead of all three is dead by the end); Into the Woods as mentioned gets (sorta gleefully) dark, Jesus Christ Superstar is, umm, do the Gospels count as tragic? Judas is dead no matter what... And RENT isn't exactly super-happy-ending, it's just got hope - half the cast is dying, after all...

Rogers & Hammerstein tend to be more cheerful (Sound of Music, Oklahoma! etc), but I've long detested R&H for being too saccharine ^^;; And their The King & I is pretty tragic anyway...

...Huh, this list is getting depressing!

I think Joss is really suited to musicals...I also think there needs to be more superhero musicals, because they are amazingly suited for it, impassioned melodrama, crazy costumes and f/x, larger-than-life characters - it's a perfect fit! (I'm actually totally serious about this, there should be more...!)

That icon + tragic musicals = cognitive dissonance making me giggle helplessly. (Sorry, can't answer, too busy laughing at the thought of Rodney singing about his angst. His angst about JOHN. XDD)

But nothing can beat "The hammer is my penis" for the sheer spit-take reaction I had the first time I heard it.

Eee, Nathan Fillion! I know! Joss needs to do more musicals, and he needs to put NPH and Nathan Fillion in ALL OF THEM. \o/ NAKED!

I was sadly completely taken by surprise at the reveal that Bad Horse was a real horse. I just thought it was an unusual evil villain moniker. I fail at detection.

The songs are about permanently stuck in my head.

This is so nice.
I just might sleep with the same girl twice.
They say it's better the second time.
You get to do the weird stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] gnine was like, "Wait, he's a horse?" at the end, and I just blinked - the joke didn't register to me! Or rather it did, but from the very beginning, when he was talking about Bad Horse's evil whinny, I just assumed Darth Ed. ...Um, I have no idea how my brain works ^^;

I've got the songs downloaded to listen to on my mp3 player! ^^

With my freeze ray I will
Stop
The world!

Oh, I've totally downloaded the songs!

Stand back, everyone.
Nothing here to see.
Just imminent danger,
in the middle of it me.
Yes, Captain Hammer's here.
Hair blowing in the breeze.
