xparrot: Chopper reading (sga mcshep)

I [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooched. Been wanting to write sleep-deprived!Rodney for a while, and then needed to write something to deal with today's blow, else I feared I'd be blocked, also had [livejournal.com profile] gnine and [livejournal.com profile] naye to cheer up, and so:

Only a Day Away {935 words}
G; McShep, sappy sappity sap; spoilerish though 5x05

Spontaneous love meme! Because we all can use it today. Me included.

*twitch twitch* Nothing like going to the bathroom to remind you there are worse things than your favorite show getting canceled out from under you. Like sitting down on the toilet with your pants down and looking over and seeing a cockroach on the doorframe one foot away. Eeyeergghhhh no no no no (I do hope our roach spray isn't overly dangerous to humans. I've been trying to use it with proper ventilation, but. It's hard to read the warnings on the canister, there's too many kanji...)

*twitches with you* I have an unhealthy fear of roaches.

That ficlet does help raise the spirits.

The only roach I like is the one in Wall-E. Otherwise they freak me the hell out (not to good with spiders, either, but the only ones I see around here are small and hoppy and those are okay. Inch+ roaches, not so much...)

Glad I could spirit-raise!

Awwww~! When I'm in Japan, you can call me to come kill your roaches anytime. ♥

Is okay with spray, don't have to chase after them so much anymore! <3

(though the way they twitch around when they die depresses me...)

Your spray is probably best used with ventilation.... A neat trick I learned is that dish detergent (washing up liquid) mixed with some water will kill roaches (the soap covers up their breathing orifices and they smother). Not as toxic. (And the first thing I saw when *I* got home was a roach in out toilet... I thought my husband had planted it, actually, but maybe the toilet is just the cool place to hang if you're a bug....)

And yeah, sadness about the show. It seems like everyone in fandom's gone into supportive mode, IM-ing or whatever, but I'm feeling the chill of being far away (er--and antisocial, to boot). Anyway *sends comfort and Russell Stower filled chocolates*

Yeah, I figure better safe than sorry and have mostly been avoiding the rooms I've used the spray for an hour or so after spraying. Fortunately they're not in the bedroom, only bathroom and kitchen. The dish soap thing sounds like a better solution (though, um, how long do they take to die when soaped? because if they're running around for minutes afterwards...*eeeehyuugh*)

For me, more even the show being off the air, it's the knell of this crazy beautiful fandom, so just seeing all the fan bonding going around is encouraging even if I don't participate in all of it. Though I wish my sis weren't so far away; figures this would happen the one week she's gone...

Yeah, last year we tried roach motels and the little disks, but they didn't help at all (at least, the motels didn't catch anything, and we still saw roaches). Think there's too many in the apartment building for the disks to help. So this year, spray. Which kills them when seen, anyway, though it doesn't seem to actually keep them away. Yergh.

Aww, but mice are cute, at least! (eheh...sorry, I used to have pet rats, so I'm funny about mice. And since we always had a cat or two growing up, I've never had to worry about them inside the house. Not-pet mice = not so fun, though!)

I keep expecting SciFiC to say it was just a joke, SGA's still on (sigh). I'm lucky at least in that I got into the McShep - I couldn't see it until 4th season, but now I've got a hard time seeing it any other way (which, I admit, hurts in its own way, as it will never be close to canon, but it will probably never be jossed, either, at least...)
