SGA 5x11: "The Lost Tribe"
Oct. 12th, 2008 04:21 amWatching with
gnine,
naye,
utopiantrunks, and
crashtestskater is much fun, if a bit of a tight squeeze 'round the old laptop. Fun ep, too.
The squee:
Teyla worrying about John! John all dazed and protectively on top of Radek! John actually has dogtags for the first time since, what, "38 Minutes"??? (He also has collarbones. Mmmm, collarbones.) (Andy Mikita directs JFlan so dang hot. Actually he directs everyone so hot. Oh, yeah, just like that...)
Okay, we need more Rodney & Daniel. So Very Much. I want one of the movies to be an SG-1/SGA x-over. Actually I less want and more NEED LIKE BURNING.
Amelia gets a last name! Banks, is it? Poor neglected Chuck, years of devoted service but still no surname.
Todd cozying up to poor scared-rabbit!Woolsey. All arm-around-the-shoulder friendly-like. HEEE. Oh Todd. You so want every single human on Atlantis (and has probably had most of them too XP)
Asgard! Crazy ends-justifying-means Asgard, but still, aww, I missed the little clone-puppets.
Explosions are questionable diversions. Good point, Daniel.
So the Travelers are willing to drop everything to save a couple of Atlantis's people? Larrin trying to make good with Atlantis so told the captain to help Sheppard out however, or do they value Rodney's expertise? Or were they really just interested in what was going on and John had the coordinates, so? (John's "Larrin never mentioned me?" thing cracked me up, gotta admit. I swear he'd be almost as bad if Larrin were a guy. John's got almost as big an ego as Rodney, he just hides it (slightly) better. And the Traveler captain rolling her eyes, all, "Yes, she said you'd be hawt if only you were more than fourteen years old, I see what she means.")
John's hyperspace jump through the planet was very clever, and it's always fun to see him getting to pilot spaceships.
Rodney being all self-sacrificey always does it for me. And then of course Daniel has to go down, because really, if he wasn't dying at some point, we wouldn't believe it was really him. And then the perfectly timed beam-out and Rodney's so worried in the infirmary and awww. Yes, definitely need more of the Rodney & Daniel Show.
gnine totally called them harvesting a new gate from the old intergalactic bridge.
"I'm working on it..." and Daniel's face!
The other stuff:
Oh, SGA, you and your moral dilemmas. Rodney's responsible (to an arguable and intriguing degree of directness) for at least 3,000 deaths, which isn't mentioned at all at the end. (Interesting thing is, the Travelers and anyone else in Pegasus might not mind so much if they find out it took out a bunch of Wraith, too...considering the Hoffans, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people in the galaxy would think a few exploding gates worth the sacrifice...)
Why do they cast such flat actresses for the Travelers? I wanted to like the captain, I really did. On paper she's pretty cool and confident and all. But the actress was too young and made-up and unconvincing. (otoh, this means I feel more kindly towards Larrin when she's not actually in the ep. I can kind of picture her and John bonding over the burdens of command, lying around in bed together braiding each other's hair and talking about their boyfriends.)
gnine was freaking out about Keller's hair not being up for the whole ep (it's one of her biggest pet peeves about most female chars on TV) but especially that she mysteriously got it straightened to talk with Todd, and then it was curly again the very next scene. Todd is just that scary? (Other stuff re: Keller, I think they're continuing to handle poorly, especially as the writers don't really seem to be talking to each other about it, but nothing I can do about it, so I'm just going to do my best to ignore it.)
Also, why didn't Todd make sure right away that Ronon was secured? His first question to his drones after they'd taken the ship should have been had they caught the big guy with the dreads and the gun. Seriously - priorities! They'll reject your Evil League of Evil application for these kind of screw-ups, Todd.
Though Todd was pretty quick to believe Sheppard was actually telling him the truth, he seemed not to want to think Atlantis betrayed him. He's totally going to turn up again expecting to be allies, isn't he..."Yes, I tried to kamikaze your ship with half your command staff on board, but it was for a good cause. No hard feelings, right?"
(Does Todd know they've named him such? Have they ever called him "Todd" to his face?)(Also Todd is 10,000 years oflife-sucking evil awesome!)
Where was Caldwell? He get extra-stunned or what? (Possessed by a demon again,
naye suggested...)
No team reunion-ing at all, with anyone! Sigh...(tags yes plz?)
Also, in the BBC department, Hustle = <333, and saw the first two eps of Merlin - cute!

I know where 'Caldwell' was...lol

Date: 2008-10-11 08:38 pm (UTC)Keller is... wallpaper bland. What is she doing on the show besides being Rodney's love interest and getting kidnapped on regular basis?

Date: 2008-10-12 02:08 am (UTC)From your lips to TPTB ears. Please. :D
So the Travelers are willing to drop everything to save a couple of Atlantis's people?
I thought they were worried about the exploding gates... because they're putting people onto planets now? Or something?

Date: 2008-10-12 04:25 am (UTC)Also, I now desperately need to see Todd's application to the Evil League of Evil, thanks.

Date: 2008-10-12 07:39 am (UTC)Keller is the doctor sometimes, and I definitely like her best when she's handling herself competently in the infirmary; I don't quite get why the writers feel they always have to put her out of her element rather than letting her show off her medical skills.

Date: 2008-10-12 07:42 am (UTC)I thought the Travelers were worried about the gates blowing up but I wasn't as clear why they were so willing to help John save his people, rather than, say, letting the Daedalus crash and end the problem...

Date: 2008-10-12 07:43 am (UTC)I would pay good money to see Todd sing his way into the ELE! XP

Date: 2008-10-12 09:40 am (UTC)I don't think Todd has been alive as such for 10.000 year. He's probably one of the majority of Wraith who was in stasis when the Earthers came and woke them up!

Date: 2008-10-12 04:53 pm (UTC)Loved the Daniel Rodney bliss! And his totally willingness to call him out, and the Rodney "Something I'm working on" bit. Super cute!

Date: 2008-10-12 04:54 pm (UTC)... that's pretty much exactly how I sum up the awesomeness of this show to friend's. :D

Date: 2008-10-12 05:51 pm (UTC)All the romance in this show is kinda embarrassing. SG writers really should avoid it, I rather think ^^;
Even if Todd's been in stasis for much of the 10,000 years, he probably was waking up every couple hundred to feed - and he can remember 10,000 years ago! That's pretty dang cool!

Date: 2008-10-13 12:57 am (UTC)Oh! Hm... The alliance thing maybe? Or a bone-deep distaste in seeing a perfectly good ship crash and burn? Or (and I think I kind of like this one best *g*) the sheer mad love of doing something insanely death-defying, just because. :D

Date: 2008-10-13 01:11 am (UTC)YES! Hahaha.
I totally dig John/Larrin. You know, if Rodney can't make up his mind about the bi thing, then John deserves to get some while he
pineswaits. And Larrin would be perfect - although I have to deduct a couple of points for losing John's Ancient space ship.Come to think of it, technically that was Rodney's fault. Oh well. ;)

Date: 2008-10-13 06:29 am (UTC)Popping in because I was one of only two people on my entire flist who commented on this episode. What happened? Did everyone stop watching?

Date: 2008-10-14 05:00 pm (UTC)I don't know, the fandom has seemed a bit slower lately...could just be a dip because of the season or whatever, I hope it's not that everyone's jumped ship already...

Date: 2008-10-14 05:02 pm (UTC)Merlin is much fun! Haven't gotten to ep 3 but *cough* Gnine and I may have sneakily watched ep 4 out of order and without the gang, because we heard there was poisoning. & OMG! the collapsing! the feverishness! the cheesetastically brilliant h/c! Gotta love it! ^_^
