Mar. 25th, 2009 10:05 pmAnother ep tag, and hardly more than a ficlet, indulging
gnine, who craved more Illya h/c at the end of "The Concrete Overcoat Affair."
MFU: Island Getaway {~2,300 words}
PG; gen, h/c; missing scene from the end of 3x12 "The Concrete Overcoat Affair, Part 2"

Date: 2009-03-25 01:22 pm (UTC)And go Pia! Kick em in the balls! XD
So, so much love for Illya's slow losing of consciousness; he's tenaciousness in trying to hold on and the utter Illya-ness of not saying anything until the very last second. I can totally see Napoleon's face when he hears that. But he was there to catch Illya. To carry him, and OH they are so ADORABLE. I do love partners like this; who can depend on each other no matter what, and whose ability to snark is a little inhibited by the fact that they both came so close to losing the other (or thought the other lost).
And hee at the bit of conversation about Napoleon not calling Waverly (awww, Illya isn't expendable to us - or to Napoleon!), and then the description of his favorite kind of boat. XD
Poor cat. ♥
So. VERY MUCH LOVE. \o/

Date: 2009-03-25 05:32 pm (UTC)And falling unconscious never gets old. Any fandom, anywhere...but Illya does it especially well (oh, his hair, when he goes floppy~!)
And yes, poor wet Illya...

Date: 2009-03-26 12:16 pm (UTC)This story makes a little less sense to me than the previous one, given my non-familiarity with the context, but I'm afraid that together they are making me consider renting MUNCLE from Netflix (all four seasons plus "Return of MUNCLE" [1983] available there). Damn you and your H/C stories!! Can't you please write about some of your original characters and places so I can read them without being tempted to watch hours of television when I have so many other things to do!?! ^__~

Date: 2009-03-26 12:25 pm (UTC)I need to get to my original characters! But I also need destressing now (freaking a bit about my imminent departure; you know how I feel about change, and saying goodbye to all my kids this week has been hard...I've been teaching most of them for 2 years!) So, yes, once I'm with Matt, then it's my chars, but for now I'm having fun with Illya?

Date: 2009-03-26 05:43 pm (UTC)I'd enjoy MUNCLE more if I could watch it with you... as it is, even if I start soon, you'll probably be over it and on to something else by the time I get half way through. And if I get attached, you may very well go on to something new before you've finished some story or other that I really crave an ending to. I think I'll keep stitching and gardening for now instead of getting myself hooked on another show. God knows the yard needs the attention this year! Damn fallen trees and rose thorns!

Date: 2009-03-27 05:22 am (UTC)Yeeeeeah, that's the hazard of being a fandom butterfly, it's hard for us to stay in anything for long! Sorry ^^; But we will want to show you guys at least a couple eps, we want to watch them with Dad! ^_^
Good luck gardening, don't get too thorn-pricked!

Date: 2009-03-27 02:04 pm (UTC)To this day I still wonder what happened to some of the kids I taught in Medford before you were born. If I had stayed and taught in one community for most of my life, as some of the teachers here in Pepperell have, I might have followed some of them or even had some of their children as students a couple decades later... as it is, I don't even remember most of their names. Though a certain Anthony Corrado I'll never forget.
Yes, I do recognize the hazards of your fandom flutter-by-ness. Long ago recognized that I can't possibly keep up and still live my life. 'Twould be great fun to watch a few eps with your dad, though. We'll have to add that to our list of things to do next time we see each other.

Date: 2009-03-25 02:55 pm (UTC)I did adore your story though. It would have been nice if they had time to add in these little codas into the original stories - especially as yours rings so true.

Date: 2009-03-25 08:55 pm (UTC)I recently got the DVDs for UNCLE - and hence rediscovered my love for the show. Yes, there are problems with galore - but it was still a fun show to watch. And I love, love, love how Napoleon and Illya snark at each other all the time, unwilling - or unable - to tell each cares for the other (be that in a friendshippy or slashy way) but they sure do show it by risking life and limb to save the other.

Date: 2009-03-26 09:34 am (UTC)And oh, it's fun, silly as it is! For all its flaws, I love these guys lots & lots. The snark especially - John & Rodney have nothing on Illya & Napoleon when it comes to near-death snarking. But they are always there for each other - hits me right in my fangirl center!

Date: 2009-03-26 09:35 am (UTC)(I wish I could figure out how my fangirl buttons work. I enjoy the heck out of watching S&H but it doesn't get to me fannishly - Illya & Napoleon, though, something about them gets me right where it counts!)

Date: 2009-03-26 12:29 pm (UTC)**grins** My sentiments exactly. See my responses above under Naye's and Georgiesmith's threads.
So you didn't watch MUNCLE either? It's available on Netflix,

Date: 2009-03-26 12:22 pm (UTC)And yeah, I have the feeling that with Napoleon, what you see is *never* what you actually get, so it's fun to try to strip him down...

Date: 2009-03-27 07:37 am (UTC)The whole thing is excellent, but this passage was especially spot-on:
Illya doesn't fear a blighted reputation, but he detests weakness, and in himself more than anywhere else. It's galling to lean on his partner as they make their way up the shore—but it would be more embarrassing to fall flat on his face, again, so he doesn't push Napoleon away.
YES. That is how Illya thinks. So very IC for him to not say anything until he's seconds from passing out, and that is exactly how he would feel about it afterward: he should've been able to make it, even if he had perfectly legitimate reasons for not being able to. And Napoleon is perfect too.

Date: 2009-03-28 01:18 am (UTC)Lovely!
Date: 2009-03-28 02:02 pm (UTC)Even as I quite enjoy the episode (the highlights have already been mentioned ;-), I find - as with many season 3 episodes - it somehow doesn't take itself serious enough. I'm not very good at putting this in words, but I just wanted to say that your story feels as "real" as the episode should, and I'll be thinking of it as the actual end of the episode when I rewatch it.
Thanks!

Funny you should mention that, considering what I was writing last night *cough*...

Date: 2009-03-28 10:26 pm (UTC)Especially liked this bit of characterization:
Sometimes it is laziness, but as often it's pragmatism; Napoleon doesn't like to make promises he is not sure of keeping.
Illya doesn't fear a blighted reputation, but he detests weakness, and in himself more than anywhere else.
Nice work, hope to read more MFU from you.

Date: 2009-03-29 04:21 am (UTC)--Also, you're the owner of Partner Mine? Fantastic site, it was one of the first I found when I got into the show (...um, a month ago). Your fic recs are very helpful for a newcomer, and your s1 ep reviews are wonderful!

Date: 2009-05-01 10:17 am (UTC)BTW, I just rec'd one of your stories on a parenting list - we're having a what-are-we-reading-now discusssion - because, well, it's what I'm reading now, and also I think MFU post-eps are pretty accessible in general. And it's a good story (will comment when I'm done!)

Date: 2009-05-01 10:46 am (UTC)Oooh, is it a public list? (...er, yes, I may be a little too fond of seeing recs for my own stuff ^^;; It's such an ego-boost, though - thank you!)
no subject
Date: 2009-05-01 11:22 am (UTC)No, the list isn't public - I find parenting stuff can get much more walled-off than things fannish, perhaps because it's not just fictional bodies we're talking about. It's a list for moms who practice attachment parenting with older children and who are open to not homeschooling. The owner writes epic X-Men slash, so fanfic is an occasional topic :-)
