For now, a drabble. Jack Harkness, post-CoE, so spoilers (if oblique ones).


The Limits of Infinity


Jack wants to go to Alice, put a knife in her hand. A gun. A needle. A stone. Kneel before her, open his shirt and say, here, right here. Again and again, as many deaths as it takes.

He doesn't, because she doesn't deserve that. Not when infinity's not enough.

If the blood he sheds counted for anything, he'd let it all for her.

In a year--a decade, a millennium--it'll hurt less. Memories fade, whatever he promised. Someday, he'll forget everything.

That fact is almost Jack's heaviest sin.

The only one worse is how much he wants to.

My bro & gf hadn't seen the latest Who specials, so last night we followed up the final TW ep with the Xmas and Easter special...they were a much-needed palliative after all that Dark. Not that it wasn't well-done Dark, but...ouch!

I've never had a series yanked out from under me before, and in such a blatant manner. What I think I should have done was watched CoE as season finale/S1 instead of S3 with possible S4 if ratings does great. Maybe. I'm going to sit my baby brother in front of it later in the month so he can tell me what he thinks since he's never watched TW or DW before. I need another perspective on this cause watching CoE is a bit like reading really good fanfic from an author who's last fandom was the X-Files.

Your fic captures the way I suspect Jack feels after CoE very well.
Poor Jack! After I watched everything, I just wanted to give him a hug. Although I'm pretty sure, should there be a 4th series, Ianto would be resurrected. One can only hope!
