So, I finally saw the final two eps of the latest Doctor Who...

ZOMG. Near the end of the final episode, when the Doctor is saying his tragic farewell to child-Amelia as she sleeps, I realized where it was going, and suddenly understood that the purpose of the entire season was for the TARDIS wedding pun/wordplay/riddle thing. BWAHAHAHAHAH.

I gotta respect Moffat for that. I mean, to structure an episode around a silly joke is one thing. But a whole season? That's commitment, dude. I love it! (No, seriously, I think it's awesome. It's a good riddle!!!)

Really, I liked the end of the season far more than the beginning. Both "Vincent and the Doctor" and "The Lodger" were great. And the finale was a blast - Moffat really came through; it was over-the-top and ridiculous and fun. And it brought Rory back - I was really quite annoyed when he died, and though my bro insisted he had to return, I wasn't sure it would really happen. So very pleased how it turned out. If next season, or at least the Christmas ep, is what it looks like it'll be - the Doctor with a pair of newlyweds as Companions - that will make up for practically any other issues I might have. I love the Doctor handling two Companions, not to mention zero romantic tension between him and Amy - yippee!

In the end, I really quite like Matt Smith's Doctor - he has come into his own, and while I might still wish they'd cast someone a bit more different, he's really giving the part his all. And he's decidedly still the Doctor, so I have to love him. (Even if I wish he were more huggy. It's not really in his so very socially awkward char, not like Ten, but I miss the hugs!) Amy and Rory I like as well; I don't love them (yet, anyway) but they're cute, and both actors are appealing. Also, newlyweds! Married couples FTW~!

Much as I enjoyed the end of the season, I don't think I found any of it as emotionally engaging as my favorites of the first four seasons. But it was fun, and I'll definitely be tuning in next year.

In unrelated news, there is no Ben 10 fic at all! (At least none I want to read, because of the teensy tiny fandom out there, the slash pairing doesn't do it for me and the het canon pairing I adore apparently is not so popular with anyone over sixteen and I mostly want gen anyway...some cute teen superhero h/c, is that too much to ask?. ;_;)

I've never heard of Galacktic Football (though Wiki'ing it now, it sounds awful cute! ^^)

Cartoons rarely inspire large fandoms - Avatar did, but Avatar was so perfect I had no desire for fanfic. Static Shock did have a few good fics, though most of them didn't exist until after the show was off the air...

...There's a kink-meme for Ben 10, even! But I don't want kink, I just want cute, siiiigh!

FF.net is mostly Gwen/Kevin* but it's all, erm. Well. FF.net? The summaries make me afraid to click. And the few lj fans are all, "Gwen/Kevin" is so~ awful!" which makes me ;___;

* Or rather "Gwevin". ahahahahah *whimper*

Okay, so I meant nothing good...lol. Yeah, "Gwevin" pretty much sums it up....WHY, WHY, WHY??? Actually, that sounds like something Julie would say, by accident, when Kevin is driving her and Ben out to one of their dates, and Kevin would GLOWER and Gwen would like laugh at Kevin a la "roguish charm."

And yeah, I've noticed a tendency towards Kevin/Ben slash on LJ, and that's all well and good, but...but...I ♥ Kevin/Gwen. I even watched the live action movie solely for the previews of that kiss they shared in front of the computer....haha

Ahahahah if Julie ever made that slip Ben wouldn't forget it. Also <3 glowery!Kevin - clearly Gwen likes her Kevin glowery, too. that and the make-up sex is obviously way hot...

Haww, we watched the movie yesterday...oh man. Except the guy playing Kevin was, erm, appropriately but distractingly hot. Or maybe it was just us...

No, Ben would not forget it because Kevin wouldn't let him! LOL! Also, in the new Ben 10 (Universe or whatever?) is Ben still with Julie? 'Cos, I admit, I found her and Ship (okay, mostly Ship) uber-cute and funny!

Oh...the movie! And yes, you were not the only one...the guy who played Kevin was really the only reason to watch it. Ben kinda grew on me (in a dorky-kid-that-saves-the-world way), but Grandpa and Gwen? Ugh, no. But yes, Kevin was broodingly hot....XD

I want a Pupgrade Ship! ...a real one especially, but a stuffed one would be awful cute. I've been considering trying to crochet one, in my ongoing quest to win the Geekiest Crochet Ever title. --And yes, Ben & Julie are still kind of together, tho' Ship hasn't been around much yet. But have you not seen Ultimate Alien? Oh man, watch it~! It's been sharp - LOL lines every ep. 'tis awesome.

Oh gaaaaah, the guy playing Max was SO BAD. Especially since I so adore Max in all his bad-assed-ness. And Gwen just was all wrong. But Kevin, though...(if only I could find out how old the actor was to know how big a pervert I am

A crocheted Ship???!!!! OMG, if you make one you have to post pics of it so I can properly SQUEE over it!!!!! And no I haven't seen any of Ultimate Alien yet -- I still keep meaning to catch an episode, but now that it's summer, I find myself outside more than inside. Probably I will start actively making sure I watch it in the fall (I am so predictable in my tv watching habits XDDDD)

OMG, Max was TERRIBLE. I watched the movie with the father (a mistake, but he was there and so was the television) and he would NOT STOP doing his own impressions of bad!Max. I was like STOP IT I WANNA WATCH THE MOVIE and he was like LOOK AT ME IN MY TOUPEE and yeah... BUT! There was Kevin! And I think it might be better not to know how old the dude portraying him was....plausible deniability and all! XD

I very much with you on the last four episodes of the season. I was pretty much not really feeling Matt's Eleven (although I didn't hate him), and I was disgusted when they killed Rory. I didn't even watch the Van Gogh episode for a couple of weeks, and then when I did I loved it (mostly because the actor playing Vincent was incredible!).

Having Rory come back as an Auton and then stand guard over Amy for two thousand years (ZOMG!) was so full of awesome.

I'm very happily looking forward to the Christmas episode. :-)

Yup, that's pretty much my attitude about the whole season as well. And awww, Rory. After the 2,000 years they can't really kill him again, so...!

The X-mas ep looks to be great fun - hope they all keep the wedding attire!

Oh, man, this, I remember going through this. Hours and hours of hunting through ffnet in the hopes that maybe someone had written some decent Kevin fic. (I'm pretty OTC about this fandom; I don't really care who Kevin is paired off with as long he's a) in the fic and b) snarking at someone. Which rules out a lot of the romance anyway because if he dissolves into sap then it's just no fun.) Decent plotty gen would have been awesome, and I...really don't remember ever finding any. It's sad.

And currently I am going through this again with IRON MAN ARMORED ADVENTURES, which is fun (except when it's not) and well-plotted and has engaging characters and emotional issues and an awesome sympathetic villain...and all of the fic is on ff.net and 95% of it is about a pairing I'm not into, and seriously all I want is some nice team-bonding gen. So basically, there should just be more good fanfic for kids' cartoons. It's a failing in the world.

Also, two newlyweds in the TARDIS is a thing that makes me incredibly happy. You can get married and still save the world!

Ahahahah I didn't want Kevin to become my favorite char, but I have types and he's pretty square in the center of a couple, so, yeah. Inevitable. I somehow have ended up OTPing Kevin/Gwen hardcore, but I don't want sap so much; really I want fun h/c gen. Or otherwise cute char interaction.

Which I may end up just writing myself. Or may have already. ahem.

I'd never heard of Iron Man AA (out of the cartoon loop, only found out about Ben 10 'cuz one of the bro's friends rec'ed it) but you're the second person on my flist to mention it, so...may check it out!

and YES married couples in the TARDIS FTW!!! ^^

Belated response

I always knew I was watching The Kevin Levin (And Friends) Show. Resistance is futile, and tall-dark-and-snarky juvenile delinquents are hot. *g*

Which I may end up just writing myself. Or may have already. ahem.

Oh my god, you wrote Kevin backstory. Good Kevin backstory, that goes into his head and talks at length about his parents and doesn't overload the angst and explains how the hell he got from there to here. This is exactly the story I have always wanted to read. Thank you so so much.

(Also, yeah, Kevin has just never noticed that he became a superhero when he wasn't looking. Newsflash, Levin, no matter how many personal flaws you may be carrying around, after you save the world you just have to cop to the title.)

I'd never heard of Iron Man AA (out of the cartoon loop, only found out about Ben 10 'cuz one of the bro's friends rec'ed it) but you're the second person on my flist to mention it, so...may check it out!

Given what I know about your tastes, I suspect you'd really like said sympathetic villain--Gene Khan is a smart, driven, amoral teenager running a Tong crime family in the guise of his stepfather (who he loathes), and feigning friendship with Tony Stark to get help in hunting down the Makluan Rings, powerful artifacts that are his ancestral legacy and that will (theoretically) prove his worthiness. This would be easier if he wasn't getting closer to Tony and his friends than he ever meant to... Further details would be spoilery, but you get the general idea. And this is on top of all the general team goodness the series has to offer. Well, all right, even in my most charitable moments I have to admit that Pepper doesn't get to be awesome nearly often enough, but she has her moments, and I find her pretty consistently entertaining. And Tony and Rhodey have a stable dynamic going of "committed but noticeably flawed hero" and "guy who backs him up and worries about his sleeping habits when he needs it, and smacks him in the head when he needs that." Plus the rest of the supporting cast, including a genuinely kickass action girl, and villains with motivations and backstories and stuff. Also banter!

Well, I adored Gwen in the original Ben 10, so I admit to loving her almost as much as Kevin (I think she was even more awesome when she was 10, but she's still pretty dang awesome, so...) But Kevin, yeah, he's just got It.

And eeee you liked my story! ^__^ I am so glad you enjoyed it - it's such a tiny fandom, makes me all thrilled that I could write something that appealed. (Even if I s'spect some of it will be jossed. At least I hope it will be - I want to know how Kevin actually got out of the Null Void, dangit!)

Kevin has to be one of the worst superheroes ever - it's part of his charm! - but he is one, like it or not!

...Okay, you have convinced me I should check out Gene Khan Iron Man AA... Though awww, one of my problems with the first IM movie - still haven't seen the second - is that Pepper wasn't quite as awesome as I wanted her to be. But entertaining is good, at least! As is banter, and team goodness - mmm, yes, will haveta give it a try ^^

Oh, I definitely feel your pain! I've been scouring the Internet for ages to try and find some Sea Patrol (Australian tv-show) h/c but the little fic there is all seem to be focused on het romance, which really isn't my cuppa. :o(

It's made me realize how spoiled I've been by the SGA fandom: tons of h/c out there!

Yeah, some shows tend to garner more h/c than others, which can be so frustrating when there's a show perfect for it, but no fans deliver!
