The next chapters may be a bit delayed, what with holiday hassles fast encroaching (not to mention Yuletide fic still due ^^;) but meanwhile here's a longer chapter to make up for it. A long chapter of aaaaangst. Also swords. Mmmm... (Sorry, Gin-san, but it's hardly my fault you're 超格好いい~ under the right circumstances...)

Missing a full stop?

Fight scene fun! And such Shinsengumi fun~ I love how you're showing their ambivalent relationship with the Yorozuya; knowing their interests aren't always aligned, but respect there all the same. And oh, Hijikata actually calling out a warning to Okita~ ♥ And mentions of Saitou and Harada - I do so wonder what a Gintama-universe Saitou would be like ^^;.

"Yes," Gintoki said, "so lonely it'll be like dying, but no one ever dies just of loneliness, except in shoujo manga. And this is shounen, you know, shounen."

"But we want to stay with you, Gin-san."

"Do you really want us to go, Gin-chan?"

"No," Gintoki said. "No, never."

Hee, yeah, had to get some Shinsengumi references in there! I am torn between dying to see Gintama-Saitou and knowing it would break my brain (he's my favorite char in Kenshin, so... ^^;)

I will confess, though this story is strictly gen, if I have any pairing in Gintama it might be HijiOki (well, after Otae/Kyuubei, but that's pretty much canon, so XD) (...although I'm also partial to Okita/Kagura; obviously I am very confused ^^;)

I am so glad you liked those lines - that was one of the first scenes of this story I wrote, and probably my own favorite.

(and thanks for the typo catch - foolish periods are so tiny, they fall through the cracks and get lost! ^^;

Oh Gintoki... The angst! And the ghosts in his mind. I love how they talk to him, obviously saying exactly what he himself is thinking. ;_; (and the shounen manga comment. Brilliantly Gintama!)

And I love how you show that the Shinsengumi really do care about Gintoki, again. They know him so well that they can see that something is wrong. And the little thing about Okita holding back his killing strike, and Gintoki knowing this, doesn't parry it - they know each other so well!

But then, Gintoki is out of his mind right now, and you had to end on a cliffhanger, didn't you? ^^

Poor Gin-san, he's really not having a good time of it...so glad you liked the shounen manga line, though, that's one of my own favorites.

And yes, I love the Shinsengumi's relationship with the Yorozuya - it's a weird one for a standard shounen, because they're not really antagonists, and they're only rivals on particular occasions; but they're also allies at least as much, and Okita does consider Gintoki one of his friends, and Hijikata will go to him for help. And being shounen fighters, of course they can read one another's emotional states through their blades...

So glad you're enjoying it still, and I won't leave that cliffhanger dangling for too~ long! ^^
