So I've written GinZura - but not happy OTP-compliant GinZura. Er, sorry? It's the same character continuum as "Everyone's got to write their own happy ending," but with far more sex and angst. Joui war angst, so about as un-Gintama in mood as it gets. Yeah, I dunno. Warnings for that and sadness and misleading fluff and not-very-graphic consensual sex between young men. Also potential OOC - since there's so little canon backstory to work with, the characterizations are mostly my own invention, though they may betray influence from various Joui-4 doujinshi I've read.

Gintama: Resuscitation, 1/3 {3,362 words}
R; Gintoki/Katsura, Joui war-era
"For a while Katsura tells himself that it's no more than the camaraderie of the battleground."

"The first time Katsura encounters an Amanto stun-shield, he literally doesn't know what hit him."

Read it on AO3

Melted when Gintoki referred to himself as "Gin-san".

I always loved this period in Gintama... the good stuff out there for it is surprisingly little.

Also, Gintoki/Katsura story = immediate win. <3

Yeah, I crave more Joui-war myself - though I want more in canon first! I think that's why there's so little in fandom, because it's such a total blank slate...

Glad you're enjoying it~!

There's so much I love about this that I don't even know where to begin. Crack is all jolly good, but seeing the darker side of the war/their relationship on the battlefield is always so heartbreaking and thrilling at the same time.

I love how you wrote their dialogue and meaningless (and sometimes not so meaningless) banter. Also using bickering as a way to ease the tension around them is such a Gintoki thing to do. And that wink was by far my favorite part.

And even though we only got a glimpse of Takasugi so far, I really like your characterization of him.

Really looking forward to chapters 2 and 3!

Wah, thank you so much! Yeah, I always feel a bit like I'm fanning on the wrong things, when I delve into Gintama's serious side - but much as I love the crack, the chars and their crazy AU world are so fascinating on darker levels as well.

Takasugi was a, umm, challenge to write, since we see so little of him anyway, and he must have been different then...so very glad he's working for you!

I'll be posting the rest very soon...

I have to say the synopsis scared me a bit. I was almost afraid for Zura actually, but so far it doesn't seem like Gintoki actually minds which is the impression I had from "Everyone's got to write their own happy ending". Anyhow, I want to see where this goes for sure~

Eheh, well...I felt like I had to warn. ^^; But this is canon-compliant, so it's not going to be a death-fic or anything like that! Anyway, very glad you're reading, and I hope you enjoy it, in spite of itself ^^;

♥____♥ Zura! And, aw, all four of them, actually, while they're still sort of innocent, for all the blood and gore. &them;

I do rather love Zura, I gotta admit, and am totally indulging myself here - since he can be all dramatic and serious, as I believe back then he wasn't so, um, reality-challenged ^^; It's rather a trip writing all of them like this; just hope I can keep 'em vaguely recognizable!

Cool! It's different from canon, like you warned for, but from what very little we know of the Amanto war, it was bloody hell, and I think you capture both that and the characters as they probably were. I especially love your Gintoki dialogue. ♥

Yeah, this is definitely not standard Gintama - but I can't help but crave some drama now and again. ^^; And the few fleeting references to the war always sound hellish, not a fun or funny time at all (which is probably why there's never been any extended flashback to it...) We know from what Otose's said that Gintoki was fairly broken from it for a long time after, anyway...

...oh, Gin-san, I'm sorry I love you (and your pain...)

This is beautifully written, I like how you manage to pinpoint the right words... And the story in itself is interesting too, everyone seems pretty much IC to me.
