xparrot: Chopper reading (doctor 3-d)

Okay, given the way this season's gone, I have a personal theory that Moffat purposely put bad writers on the team to make his own eps look good :P

That being said...rather enjoyed this one! Rory got to be awesome (in a silly outfit)(please don't kill him please don't kill him). The Doctor got to be angry and angsty as Eleven hasn't really gone through before.

And River's identity was revealed (guessed it pretty much as soon as Amy said her baby's name, wasn't sure about it until later, though. Am not sure how much foreshadowing there's been? OTOH the clever thing about her going backwards-ish along their timelines is that even though she's probably known the whole time she's seen Amy & Rory, she's also had practice keeping it hidden. And her reaction in the beginning seeing Rory makes sense - I was worried it meant he was going to die, but it's more likely that it was the first time she had to deal with him as "Rory" and not as her father; no wonder she was rattled...)(So...if the little girl is River...she can regenerate? Or was that a one-time thing? And also, her killing the Doctor - River's implied before that she's guilty of some terrible thing - possibly the crime that got her imprisoned, possibly not - so is that murder it...?)(And does River remember being the girl, and was covering it up for the sake of timeline preservation? Or is her memory impeded somehow?)

In conclusion, Victorian interspecies time-traveling lesbians for the win!!!

I keep starting to write a reaction post and then stopping, because I can't really figure out how I feel about this one! Absolutely loved some of it (Rory is the most awesome thing that ever awesomed) and like you, I tumbled to River being the baby as soon as Amy mentioned her name, though I started second-guessing myself later -- actually, from the time she touched the Doctor's crib 'til they gave the reveal, I had jumped to the conclusion that she was the Doctor's MOTHER, and I think that made the actual reveal a disappointment for me, because I liked the other idea so much better! (Though it would make some of her behavior towards him deeply creepy ...)

I'd also speculated all the way back in the second episode that the little girl regenerating in the alley was River. Except now I'm deeply confused as to why she didn't regenerate when she was killed in the Silence in the Library eps. Was there something about it that made it impossible for her to do so ...?

I think I'm still processing this because I am not convinced that it makes sense. She really should have interacted differently with Rory and Amy than she has up to this point, especially since she (understandably!) often seems a little unsure about where she is in all of their relative timelines. I find it difficult to believe that she's been able to interact with Rory and Amy as if they're strangers while knowing everything that she knows; I just don't really buy it! But I'd have to rewatch those eps to get the nuances of their interaction, I guess ...

I do find it fascinating that she was basically raised to kill the Doctor, and then ended up falling in love with him instead. And this sort of implies that she (in her own past) is in fact the person in the spacesuit who kills him in that future scene we saw, and that he does die ...

Man, if she is the one to kill him as a little girl I feel heartbroken for her because she has to live with the knowledge she killed the man she loves.

See, I'm pretty sure now that that's the "worst day of her life" that she mentioned earlier in the season. Poor River.

...Hmm. I wonder if she didn't actually die in SitL? I don't remember exactly how that ep went...is it possible she regenerated after we saw her, and the River in the computer was some sort of mental computer clone?

River as the Doctor's mother would have been WAAAAAAY icky/creepy/wrong especially with the kissing last time...no, this way is a bit weird but better, I think (even if that would've been cool in other respects!)

(From an external perspective I'm curious if this was the plan for River all along or something that was come up with this season - the lack of any hints about it before make me think it was a recent decision, but...)

Excuse me for butting in but the people in The Library were eaten down to the bones.

I'm not sure you could regenerate from that...

Ahh, was Riven eaten, too? That's what I couldn't remember. I thought she died in the computer or something, rather then getting eaten, but she might've gotten eaten after that...

I LOVED so many things about this episode. But I'm so confused about where River is in Amy and Rory's timeline??? I thought she'd seen Rory before earlier in the season???? So why would she be surprised to see him now in this episode? But um other than that awesome stuff. :)

She'd definitely seen him earlier this season, but if her timeline is backwards as usual, then that hasn't happened to her yet - that (the beginning of the ep) was the first time she's seen Rory since...whatever happens the next time they meet (which might be this time at the end of the ep, and might go badly, from her reaction?)

(...I'd say it's confusing, but I've been reading Homestuck lately, and compared to that this is easy-peasy time-travel shenanigans, even if the grammar gets a bit complicated ^^;;;)

I haven't watched this week's Doctor Who yet, but I did see Much Ado About Nothing earlier in the week. It was fantastic! I was especially impressed with Tennant's acting in the physical comedy scenes. He had the audience in hysterics. He and Catherine Tate also had amazing chemistry and their scenes together were adorable! I would love to see it again!

I was not impressed with the mob scene at the stage door afterwards though. Now I see why he looked so unhappy in a lot of the after show pictures from Hamlet. To his and Catherine Tate's credit though, they were both very friendly to the fans and even took pictures with some people and signed as many autographs as they could.

Waaaaah jealous wanna seeeee~~~!! If I had the $$ to spare I would totally be going to London again for that. (and they were adorable? <3333333! ...I never 'shipped Doctor/Donna but somehow I love the idea of seeing their actors be all cute *^_^*)

...but fan-mobs afterwards, ouch. Yeah. That kind of attention can be rough, even when most people are well-meaning...

This episode had me flailing and screaming all the way through it. XD I liked it even better than 'The Doctor's Wife,' and that's saying a lot. I watched it with my mom, and she was crying with laughter during the 'You should call her mommy, not big milk thing' part.

And any mention of the Doctor's children makes me woobie. :')

In conclusion, Victorian interspecies time-traveling lesbians for the win!!!

VERY MUCH THIS. ♥

"The Doctor's Wife" is still my favorite ep with Eleven by a long shot. But this was fun, and hee to the Doctor talking Baby, and the lesbians! ^_^
