The longer I go without posting, the harder it is to remember all the things I've watched and listened to that I wanted to post about, and thus the more I hesitate to make a post at all. So, in the interests of clearing my journal palate, a list in no particular order, chronological, importance, or otherwise:

  • Watched Thor a few days ago to prepare for the upcoming Avengers movie and rather enjoyed it. Which isn't to say it's good; it's rather a terrible movie and my friends who hated it are quite justified. I liked it anyway! Thor was a big ol' sweetheart (even if regrettably clothed for too much of the movie), Loki was scarcely a respectable trickster but made up for it by being the most woobie woobie who ever woobied (he made s1 SV!Lex look hard-hearted and unsympathetic), the romance was so laughably pastede-on-yay that it hardly even could irritate (why didn't they give him like a month on earth and develop the relationship in a montage? It would've taken all of two minutes and been 100% more believable), and I personally thought Asgard was beautifully designed, very Final Fantasy-esque architecture-what's-architecture-we-have-computers!

  • Watched the 2 seasons of Lost Girl - hey you guys, you should totally be watching this! It's not a great show but it's fun and cute and most importantly it has Kenzi, who is made of amazing and hilarity and awesome outfits. It reminds me of early Angel: tS in tone and theme except that it's in Toronto instead of LA and Angel is a brooding young succubus instead of a brooding old vampire and doesn't brood as much as she'd like because she has Kenzi, who makes brooding difficult. And there is adorable f-f friendship and f/f romance (and m/f; Bo is bi, but really so, not just kisses-guys-for-love-and-girls-for-titillation.) And m-f friendship as well, and werewolves and sirens and all other manner of wacky fae, and Canadian actor bingo, and an outrageous bodyswap ep. And did I mention Kenzi?

  • Watched the new Sherlock as it came out but tragically missed that fandom train. I have reasons but I'm honestly not sure if they're why my squee-tickets never arrived, or if it's the lack of squee which makes me critical. Either way, I am sad not to be joining the fun. Le sigh!

  • Not fanning on Sherlock has not kept me from fanning on the actors, mind, because Martin Freeman is kind of fantastic and I can't wait to see him in The Hobbit, and Benedict Cumberbatch is Benedict Cumberbatch.

  • Especially because Benedict Cumberbatch is also Martin! I spent rather more time than I expected or preferred on planes and in airports this holiday season (thank you, global warming, for your thoughtful gift of ice, snow, and more ice and snow) which allowed me to listen to all of Cabin Pressure, which is more hysterical than a radio comedy about a charter airline has any right to be. Also more cute and lovable. Plus, Douglas! (Who originated Javert and I really want to know if that's the recording of Les Mis I'm familiar with. Certainly he has the voice for it! Roger Allam and Anthony Head having a relaxed&authoritative pilot-off is a gift to all fangirls...)

  • Have started watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - only a couple eps in and still getting used to Miki playing Roy Mustang, but looking forward to seeing more!

  • Finished posting my Ben 10 fic; still have to post the epilogue of Tiger Hunt, if only I can write the last scene...

  • Still haven't moved over to Dreamwidth though I keep meaning to - have been trying to get all my fic off my journal and onto AO3 before I do, and still need to replace some stories with links, but as of now I believe all my fic is on AO3, from my very first stuff to present day!

I was brought into CP through the impassioned pleas of two different friends a few months ago, and absolutely love it.

And Ben's committed to another series, I believe, so we'll likely make it to the end of the alphabet!

It is amazing! And I can't wait for the next series - s3 was my favorite by far, so I'm hoping they continue the trend!

I am greatly looking forward to it! I loved the first series until it kind of went off the rails in the second half, once it ran out of manga - and I was meaning to read the manga when Brotherhood started, and then I figured I'd watch that first...

Oh! My thoughts exactly! I was watching Sherlock and thinking, I can't wait to see him as Bilbo Baggins! He IS Bilbo Baggins!

(and Thor - THOR!!! - I had a fun time watching it, but it is hilariously bad, haha)

He will be the perfect Bilbo, yes, he's just got the perfect disarming humble charm thing going on...

and THOR!!! - I love cheese and camp, and Thor totally hit my original-Adam-West Batman buttons (tilted cameras and all!)

I'm sorry to hear you missed the Sherlock fandom train, but these things happen to everyone sometimes. (Mostly I'm sorry for selfish reasons, because, goodness, it's a large fandom and it's making my life quite difficult trying to keep up with it!)

I personally thought Asgard was beautifully designed, very Final Fantasy-esque architecture-what's-architecture-we-have-computers

This is the most perfect description of Asgard and why I loved it and I love you forever for it. Also, your thoughts on the movie are my thoughts. (It was a fun movie! The only ship I care about is Chris Hemsworth/me! Awww, Loki, you adorable thing!)

I am so irritated my silly fangirl soul can't get into Sherlock! For the amazing output of the fandom and because some of my favorite writers and some of my closest friends are into it, and I was really hoping the new season might do it for me - siiiigh~! Oh well, there's always next time...

And Thor - yeah, I genuinely loved Asgard; I thought it was gorgeous and more visually interesting than a lot of CGI sets, and I think a lot of that was because they did it in more a video game/FF style, not at all concerned with practicality or realism but going for ridiculous, pure aesthetics. And Chris Hemsworth wore a shirt far too much and Loki with his little sad woobie Loki face!

At the rate fandom turns over these days (and the length of time until the next season--which AT BEST will be the end of the year!), there'll be a new hot fandom that you'll have another chance to get into.

I'm already bracing myself for not being into The Avengers movieverse and having it explode all over fandom, *put-upon sigh!*. We all have our crosses to bear. XD

I am greatly looking forward to Avengers, I admit, even if aghhhh Joss Whedon! (though it's only one movie, that's not long enough for him to destroy everyone's lives! *fingers crossed*)

Oh, gah, I keep mentally blocking the Joss Whedon part out of my head. I mean, I'll still go see it, but, well. I would have said that very thing once--but then I saw Serenity.

Oh, I didn't know you haven't seen Brotherhood yet. You're in for a treat! Such epic storytelling... and it just keeps getting better and better. Took me a few episodes to get hooked, and then I was on the edge of my seat for the entire story.

the FMA:Brotherhood, I add my squee to the rest. Miki sounded weird as Roy at first, to me, but he found his stride and in a certain episode towards the end he just BLEW ME AWAY! ^_^ I liked both series for their own sake, but maybe Brotherhood was slightly better 'cause Ling is in it too. ^^

Hee, yes - I like Miki and actually think his tone is reasonably suited to the role, but I'm used to him playing sillier characters (especially having last seen him in Gintama, where his char is. Umm. Let's go with VERY SPECIAL!)

I don't know who Ling is - look forward to finding out! ^_^

I am actually in the Thor fandom right now, if only because the Loki comics coming out these days are AMAZING.

Yet (don't tell anyone I said this) I thought the movie was fun but silly and not The Best Thing Ever too. But damn do I miss having superhero movies that are fun!

Ohohoh do you have any recs for Loki-stuffs? Fic or maybe what run of comics to read (...totally illegally, most likely, since I don't know where else to get 'em ^^;;;) I liked his char in the movie and I've loved his original self forever (Tricksters for the win!) so...

And I love fun superheroes! To be honest I often like the more kid-aimed ones better just because they don't take themselves seriously and only aim to be entertaining. And Thor was rather in that vein to me, all the drama being ridiculously OTT and melo- - heee!

Illegal: Try Journey into Mystery 632, which is the xmas issue and has nothing to do with anything. Should tell you if you like Kid Loki. If you do, start reading Thor 617 which will turn into The Mighty Thor 1 and crossover with Journey into Mystery 622 and Fear Itself. (I'm sorry, but it's comics! It's never easy!)

Lady Loki is Xanatos levels of evil, you can find her by just reading from the start of volume 3. It also includes lots of Balder, who I am sweet on and am currently RPing. It starts with Thor 1, 2, 3, etc.

Loki also has a recent awesome mini showing his side of things.

And yeah, that's part of what I like about the current Kid Loki comics. Sadness, action, but also a witty mischevious kid who is so cute.

...ahahahah and this is why I've never quite gotten into comics! (most of my knowledge comes from movies, cartoons, and trolling Wikipedia...) So confusing where to even start! ^^;;;;

...erm, also the summary on Amazon for Journey into Mystery Fear Itself doesn't even mention Loki even though he appears to be on the cover - ahhh comics whyyyyyyy~!

Umm, also, *cough* is there a particular source you would recommend for illegal endeavors? Or is bittorrent the way to go?

Screencap of the order they should be read in. (http://i.imgur.com/qy9vQ.jpg) Warning! Contains spoilers 'cause that's how I find issues I want to reread! (You may notice that trying to read them in order makes NO SENSE. Thanks for making me do the work, Marvel.) After this part you can just read them in chronological order, though. It's the stupid crossover that seems to have messed things up.

What. Okay, skip past the wrong description to the reviews and you'll see it's a Loki book. O_o;;

Well, don't admit to anyone that I go here, but ... http://rs.4chan.org/

...I just read the christmas issue with the puppies and it was adooooorable, so yes, suffice to say I could do with more kid!Loki (...though Thor is dead? or he doesn't remember Thor? what now? (I do have a thing for brothers, foster estranged or otherwise, so...)(umm if this is spoilers of stuff in the series don't tell me, I'll read it myself!))

So Thor 617 is where the kid!Loki arc starts? (I'd wiki'd this already so I know it's basically something like Loki dies in a possibly self-sacrificial way and then Thor somehow brings him back as a kid?) - okay, going to have to download to figure this out!

And thanks for the pointers and comic guidance, it is very appreciated ^^

Yeah, that's his first appearance. Don't worry, they explain why he's a kid if you don't want to read the earlier Lady Loki stuff (though she is, again, badass out the ears). It will make sense! Or as much as comics ever do. ;)

AHAHAHAH SO BRILLIANT AND BEAUTIFUL (also I will need to hunt down that animated thing, methinks...)

...Comparing Lady Loki to Xanatos was really unfair, you know; now I want to look that up. And am reading through the Thor now and heee it is so silly (Thor: "I am sad and mopey. I think I'll bring my brother back to share my mopery!" Everyone else: "REALLY FREAKING BAD IDEA! Also do you remember that your brother is WHY you're all mopey?" Thor: :P!!!! *lightning resurrection*)

It's called "Tales of Asgard" and I think it's all on Youtube. It kind of sucks, especially girl-treatment-wise, but the brotherlyness is awesome.

Seriously, Lady Loki is evil like clockwork. YOU CAN SET YOUR WATCH BY HER EVIL. She's definitely the biggest and best schemer of any Loki I've seen. It was so unfair of them to pit my poor Balder against that.

There was a recent line that Thor doesn't trust his brother, but he does love him. That's them all over.

--Okay, having read the JiM and associate Fear-whatever books - oh man, kid!Loki is so adorable! The Fear Itself main series I found boring (maybe would've helped if I were more familiar with more of the characters; I'd heard of most of them but don't really know them) but the Journey into Mystery stuff I really enjoyed, especially with all the pseudo-mythology and folklore type stuff.

So...Lady Loki is in Thor v.3? is that this or something else? (if it's this, OOOOH, so this is where JMS has been!!)

Date: 2012-02-15 05:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bluepard.livejournal.com
Exactly! The crossover stuff is almost always terrible, but in this case you can't avoid it because it's like half of Kid Loki's canon. He is adorable evil, though, isn't he? I drew some stuff of him in my deviantart.

That seems to be part of Vol3, including the part where Lady Loki first appears, but I'm not sure what they mean exactly. I would think they would have a book on this because it was a really popular run, but I'm not sure if that's it.

BTW, I checked my legal copy of JiM and it only contains the first part of the story. If you were thinking of buying it despite already pirating it, which I do. XD

Ahhh - if you're not familiar with the original FMA, the first ep of FMA:B must be a bit confusing, with all the new characters! As far as I can tell that first ep is basically to reassure fans of the previous series or manga that their favorites will be turning up...

...but anyway, yes, looking forward to it! ^^

I was just thinking about making a post reccing Lost Girl, even though I'm still in the first season. I'm rather enjoying it, but puzzling as to why it's not hitting my fannish buttons, as it literally has all of the main factors I've been craving in a show (ass-kicking queer female main character, f/f friendship that's not tinted by sex or cattiness, hell, there's even a few explosions!). And I know it's not the quality of writing, because I've fanned on things written far more badly XD Ah, I'll figure it out eventually.

I will now need to put Thor on my watch list! I'm very fond of the Final Fantasy architecture-what's-architecture style XD

I haven't been feeling totally fannish about Lost Girl, but I think that's mainly because I've been feeling a sad lack of fannishness about nearly anything (otoh I've been getting original writing in instead, so worth it!) Also there's no relationship in Lost Girl that quite hits my buttons, much as I love pretty much all the chars. But it's still a fun fun show and I'm really looking forward to more!

And you should totally watch Thor - of my friends half of us enjoyed it for its campy cheese and the other half hated it for the same reasons, but I believe your cheese threshold is set similarly to mine, so... XD
