Not sure if I mentioned it but I've been listening to the Podcast that Ate Fandom for the last couple months now. I just listened/watched one of the live shows - due to be made into a podcast later, but it's up on youtube now. (thanks to
joonscribble for the link!)
Am terribly jealous of those who were there in person; just watching the vid is a strange and special experience, both for the live audience (who giggles and cheers like Cecil Baldwin is a rock star, and squeals at every mention of Carlos) and to see the performers in person. Cecil Baldwin looks totally different from the Cecil in my head (who looks totally different from all the fanart as well - putting aside the fanonical tattoos and 3rd eye, I can't get my head around a white-haired Cecil for some reason?) and it makes you admire his performance even more, that he can bring the town to such vivid life when it's 95% just his voice.
As for the episode itself - it's great fun, especially for Carlos/Cecil fans (...which is all of us?) Okay, yeah, I have drunk the C/Cool-aid and oh oh oh, this story...the initial shine is rubbing off their relationship, and what's underneath is proving to be genuine and solid and just, awwww. I never guessed that Cecil's ridiculous crush would turn into something so touching. I also love that Cecil has agreed to keep a lid on some of the details of their relationship - it's such a beautiful narrative trick, that on the one hand it's so frustrating that we the audience are going to be closed out - and yet it has that same audience (literally) keening for the sweetness of the gesture - that in closing us out, it makes their relationship more "real".

Date: 2013-10-15 11:34 pm (UTC)Same for me. I was half planning on listening to the Condos episode without actually watching the video but was glad that I did. Seeing the actor hardly fazed me in the end and only brought great joy.

I know. I drink the C/Cool-aid and feel no shame because the writers have actually made the relationship into something real and very normal.

Date: 2013-10-16 09:46 am (UTC)Yes! There was something really cool and weird (appropriately enough, for NV!) seeing Cecil Baldwin, and hearing Cecil-of-Night-Vale coming out of his mouth even though he's clearly not Cecil. I'm somewhat used to it as I've long loved VAs - but with a cartoon you have a clear picture of what a char looks like; it's all the cooler when you don't have an actual image, but somehow the mental one is still strong...
And yeah, for all NV's bizarreness, Carlos/Cecil is remarkably functional and believable (far more normal and believable than either Cecil or Carlos individually, really! XD)

Date: 2013-10-16 09:49 am (UTC)But Cecil wasn't inciting said audience to riot so I am assuming Carlos's newly grown locks are as yet untouched by Telly's foul blades XD
