I've had such a parched few months writing-wise that I've decided to do NaNoWriMo. Except rather than writing one novel I've decided to just do write-anything-whatsoever-as-long-as-I-get-the-wordcount. Have a couple original things I want to work on as well as a couple fic. There's a long McShep epic which I never posted because I never finished it, and though it's been years and SGA fandom has fallen by the wayside, I still really like the story (I have over 50K words of it) and would like to tie it up. And since
gnine and I have been rewatching SGA, I'm now inspired.
Speaking of which,
gnine and I have been rewatching SGA these last couple weeks. Breaking news: we still love Rodney McKay, film at eleven.
And then we got to talking about the possibility that Carlos might've learned to apply his skill at SCIENCE! to saving people on Atlantis. So this happened:
Only Found in Lost Cities (4607 words) by Xparrot
Chapters: 2/4
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis, Welcome to Night Vale
Rating: General Audiences | No Archive Warnings Apply
John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Carlos/Cecil
Additional Tags: Crossover, POV Outsider, Tourists in Night Vale, Cecil is scary, I love him, (so does Carlos), but yeah so scary
John and Rodney go looking for a former Atlantis scientist with annoyingly perfect hair, and end up in the most scientifically interesting community in the US. Now the question is, will they ever be able to leave...
(The story is pretty much done; I'm posting in parts because I'm still waffling on the last lines, but the end should be on AO3 within the next few days. It's looking like after that there will be at least one more Night Vale fic - though this one, in the name of NaNo, I've gone to hell with it and dove headfirst into totally unsupported headcanon and ridiculously out-of-tone angst. There are hospital vigils. I am stunningly predictable but I was up until 7 AM writing for the sheer glee of it, so, yeah. I don't know why the heck my fangirl soul latched onto Cecil/Carlos but I am not complaining!)

And I'm not complaining either! Hospital vigils, eh? Is this a hospital in Night Vale because I sort of fear what they're like.

Date: 2013-11-04 01:30 am (UTC)The other story, oh gawwwwwd...I have no idea what I'm doing! It's got obscure fanon that isn't even really how I see the show and explanations for what should be inexplicable and angst where it should be quirky, and I didn't mean to write anything about the StrexCorp takeover because I'm so curious where the show is actually going with it, but somehow I am anyway...if you'd like I could send you the first part? (...no one has read any of this thing yet, so I'm torn between dying to share and wanting to hide. ^^;;;;)

Date: 2013-11-04 01:37 am (UTC)Oh, good! I can definitely read it then. Because I actually know who John and Rodney are.

Yeah, I have random headcanon about StrexCorp. which I'm sure is 99.9% wrong from what Fink and Cranor have in mind but for now I'm happily enjoying it.

YES! Send it over!!
I'm sort of working on a NV fic but it's still largely in outline form and I realize that most of it takes place not in NV since it's gone missing and all.

I've written snippets that need to be slotted into the actual story. The outline is simple looking enough with basically:
Carlos and Cecil have a fight because Carlos has had it up to here with Night Vale
Carlos goes to a conference
Night Vale vanishes
Carlos freaks out and looks for it and fails
Carlos angsts about it
Eventually Carlos finds his way back.
It's just the last two parts stretch on and on in terms of the details. Because having Carlos angst when he's not the greatest at being in touch with his feelings is kind of awesome to write about.

Date: 2013-11-04 09:56 am (UTC)And ahhhhh I want this story! I have an unreasonable weakness for people who love each other having a fight and then something terrible happening before they get the chance to resolve it. And yeah, awkward unsure Carlos whose own heart is as big a mystery to him as Night Vale itself is a favorite flavor of Carlos...it's just such a perfect foil to Cecil's certainty! I understand if you don't have the time to write fic now, but if you do, I can guarantee you'll have at least one very happy reader? :D:D:D

Date: 2013-11-04 02:17 pm (UTC)Eeee!
I have an unreasonable weakness for people who love each other having a fight and then something terrible happening before they get the chance to resolve it.
Me as well. This is what I love as a reader but it'll be the first time I try it as a writer.
I can guarantee you'll have at least one very happy reader? :D:D:D
If I get anything substantial together, I can show it to you. I could definitely use a canon-beta reader. At this point it's starting to haze over a little what is canon and what's my headcanon which is a bit dangerous.
Also: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Date: 2013-11-05 11:03 pm (UTC)And yaaaay to trying to write plots you love to read - it's a challenge but it can be so much fun. If/when you have anything I'd love to beta - I can't promise how good I'll be about the canon (my own headcanons are taking over, it's a problem with a canon this intentionally vaguely defined - but then that's part of the fun of it!) but I'll offer what I can. Out of pure altruism, of course. Not because I'm dying to read it or anything :P

Date: 2013-11-06 08:02 pm (UTC)Once I have something in any sort of chronological order, you'll be the first I inflict in on! I have this bizarre habit of writing random scenes and then need to somehow connect it with, you know, other scenes. Ah, writing...
