a day in the life
Nov. 4th, 2005 11:36 amSooner or later, one wakes up and finds one has turned twenty-seven. --well, not yet. But in nine-and-a-half hours or so. Really, now, I'm not a digitally inclined person, do you know how long it takes me to memorize a new phone number? I have a hard enough time remembering how old I am without it changing on me on an annual basis! ...This would be a joke, if I hadn't in fact given people the wrong age on more than one occasion. "I'm twenty-five. No, wait, twenty-six!"
And today, I shall celebrate my birthday with a Japanese oral.
...No, unfortunately not that kind of oral.
At least it will be over in a couple hours. I don't get test anxiety normally, but when the exam involves standing up before not only the class and two teachers but a camera--a camera!--and trying to prove that I in fact can speak in Japanese--a difficult feat, as one, I really cannot; and two, even my native English will desert me under such circumstances--well, at least it will be over in a couple hours.
So who wants to write me fluffy h/c that doesn't involve any language exams for my birthday? *beams*

Date: 2005-11-04 05:39 pm (UTC)Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, dear Emilie!
Happy Birthday to you!!
Those 27 years are rather shocking to me, too, I'm afraid!! But they represent just about the best 27 years of my life, and a quite excellent result for the 28 years of effort expended to see you to this point.
Don't think about the class and the two teachers and the camera. Think about talking with friends and accomplices who are learning, just like you, and who have a stake in seeing you succeed right along with themselves; picture yourself laughing, relaxing, and speaking comfortably with them; then take a deep breath, enjoy sharing whatever it is you're talking about, and don't let a few misplaced words or empty-minded pauses overtake your confidence that you can get your message across.
I have faith in you! Good luck! And BE HAPPY!

Date: 2005-11-05 02:17 am (UTC)I don't do subtracting in my head - that's math! that's even harder than memorizing a 2-digit number! - but I do mentally think back to what my last bday was every time I say my age. ^^;

Date: 2005-11-05 03:07 am (UTC)Birthday HC Fic
Date: 2005-11-05 07:30 am (UTC)Having already given you a birthday present, and celebrated with dinner out and chocolate cream pie, when I saw this request I had no intention of filling it... until this positively ridiculous idea came to me while I was making dinner tonight, and I couldn't resist. So here is yet another b-day present--of an exceedingly silly nature--to fulfill your need for h/c and (coincidentally) MY need to needle you about finishing a certain unfinished Getbackers story. You'll find it here
