obsession (for writers)

I either had a very productive or very unproductive day...had several things I meant to do (manga to draw, emails to write, dishes to wash before they attract the Scary Giant Cockroaches from Hell that apparently infest most of Japan in the summer and of which I might have spotted one this morning, Oh Joy) and instead I forwent all of it (and eating, and getting dressed...) to write for 8 straight hours. Got in some 6,000 words of my story for
bb_shousetsu, just the final makeup nookie to go. ...Yes, I'm writing original BL for Shousetsu Bang*Bang. Yes, this means X-parrot is writing sex scenes. Absurd seemingly-non-con-but-it's-really-not rough sex, amidst totally cheesy fight shounen yaoi antics. Run and hide, world. Run and hide.

So how is it in Japan exactly? I've been reading up on it lately and well I would think anyone who hasn't lived there their whole lives would find the changes very difficult.

And both of us know a little Japanese, so we can manage. It'd be more difficult if we didn't know the language at all, I think. For me, I'm finding the biggest culture shock is not actually in changing countries but changing environments - I've been a small-town girl since I was 6, so living in a real city is a whole new world. Even a city as relatively small as Kyoto is a big deal for me - I couldn't manage Tokyo, it'd be too overwhelming! But Kyoto is great (And we haven't gotten too many roaches so far...*knock on wood. Loudly!*)
